  • Footnotes:
1 - I have tinnutus really bad; since 1998 from playing shows at The Cog Factory in Omaha, NE (which has long since been closed) without absolutely zero ear protection and absolutey 100% loud ass everything. So, this bell...I have no idea if it actually comes through the recording. I've heard it so many times that I think it does, but I also think it's just my brain playing the sound.
2 - I am and I am not a full member of Average As Poets. I started out playing drums in place of their beats for a few live shows about 7 years ago taking on the stage name (we all have one) Stick Mystick (Mystic; not My Stick, though the coincidence is not lost on me). Every live show I'd dress up a little differently to show various stages of my persona's journey around Earth and the spiritual practices of its inhabitants (humans). Anyway, this was sort of "Stick's Song" in the live set because of the open spots to improvise. (Spoiler alert.) W/r/t membership: I am writing a record with them right now that is heavily 90s themed.
3 - Only the first "fill" which isn't a fill but accentuations have I ever repeated. I had to actually sit down and figure out what I wanted to do with each break for this video, of which will not be codified for live shows...probably. Also, the fill that ends on my left: one of my favorites.
4 - "Not a jazz drummer. Nope." Of all the genres I've played, jazz is one I just don't touch (or swing, but you get my point.) I was never in jazz band in school, never listened to jazz music (save for Royal Crown Revue which isn't jazz, but alas, you get my point.) So, I always - like always felt like a bit of a fraud, a con-man, playing the stereotypical jazz ride pattern here, but there's nothing else useful to put here. Thus, my face and explanation (e.g. Not a jazz drummer.)
5 - But, w/r/t #4, I do know how to "swing" a groove. At least that. Small victories, baby. Small victories.
    6 - Ope.
    7 - International "That'll Do" Sign. Probably.

👏 little zil-bel. It's been on my kit for 25 years.

Similar tinnitus bell or hissing, allegedly different origin in my case - my practising on pads, or their e-sound, might have made it worse, though.
Our brain may be playing it, or a little gremlin might, somewhere around our skull! We'll never know!
Each time I kind of perceive a lot of work behind your drumming - and your notes proves that. May be my brain, or might be that same gremlin at work!
    Cheers, mate!

Thank you, my friend! :) I really enjoy playing with this group. The new record we're writing has been a lot of fun!
