Wow. I always knew Danny Kaye was a man of many talents--I just hadn't heard that he could conduct a full orchestra--let alone the mighty NY Philharmonic! And I'm so thrilled that the piece he conducted was Leroy Anderson's delightful "Fiddle-Faddle." Thank you for posting this gem!
Danny Kaye is unique, not to compare to other good artists. In his personal way he loved people and music and brought them together, at the highest level! Thanks, Danny!
I totally agree! Have you any connection with a Danny Daye Facebook group yet? I belong to an excellent one called Danny Kaye King of Jesters. Has given me lots of info I didn't know, plus video links to his performances.
Danny Kaye was great at what he did . I’m just so glad that George Carlin didn’t become an wannabe Danny Kaye and he became what the world needed, a first rate George Carlin !
Been returning to this pension fund concert for many years. I agree, he was good at becoming Danny Kay. He was one of my first introductions into classical music. As a very young kid I was aware of film and music before being aware of myself. Kay had the personality and talent to succeed and endure in show business. I love immensely his 1950's films and his persona.
You didn't? I did--I believe at least one of the cellists was a woman. However, you're correct that most of the NY Phil instrumentalists were men. (I hope that's changed!)
That was just plain amazing! Leave it to Danny Kaye to put them up to the challenge. Score!!

I didn’t see one woman in the orchestra. How things have changed since 1961.
1981!
