My cuzzin and I would play in the building back in late 1970's... It was dangerous but fun... The workers would let us follow them around!! Showed me a bunch of stuff.. I hope in my life time the building is never tore down.. like many other stuff and buildings... The building needs to be protected!! It very much part of the duke city!!! Thanks for posting.. be blessed!!!
I stopped at the personal office at this facility and talked to Mr Sal Maes back in Jan 1981 as was railroading for another railroad and wanted to return to New Mexico. Was just about ready to give up on the ideal however he did call me back in March of 1981 advising me to interview with the Agent in El Paso 3 days later. So off I went and hired on with Santa Fe Mar 31, 1981. Retired Dec 1998 as a Train Dispatcher after railroading for over 30 years. Santa Fe still had some people working in some of the shops and I think they still were using the Storehouse back then. Plus a Freight Office still had people working in it. It can really bring back alot of memories just to visit the old place. Be nice if they could save parts of it for a museum and with the Steam Locomotive Restoration Project maybe it will come to be.
Interesting video. I've seen the shops from the fence. I understand it more now. A group of volunteers worked to open a community market on site, called the “Rail Yards Market”.
Love this building. I'm so glad the crazies that tore down the San Franciscan and the Alvarado Hotel along with our other historic sites never got to this one. Now we can enjoy it for generations.
Makes Albuquerque look ugly. The city needs to get rid of it and put stores and shops. and a mall. so hopefully the city will take a picture of it so it can last longer. Let Albuquerque have a vote. most people want it down. Make downtown live. Did you know thier is no stores downtown.
Those buildings are essentially why Abq exists in the first place! It's truly the centerpiece of it's history. You should take some time to learn about it.

I guess why Albuquerque has so many rail road ties as decorations in their landscape
0:31 I can see my house!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
This place definitely sticks out like a sore thumb . It gives ABQ some character and some cool scenes in Breaking Bad

No it don't they just need to clean it up it's part of our history be have to embrace it.
Are you out of your mind!? It's part of our history that needs to be preserved! More shops? You must be joking!
