I got into kayaking I see if your doing ocean kayaking or fishing yeah I'd wear a life vest. But If your on a river or a lake or pond as long as you have a life vest you should be ok but always keep an air horn on your kayak or boat always helps.
so no need for DIVE FLAGS ?? not using some kind of Red float is just a reckless as the boater ,, especially when you know you have power boats in the area ,,,
This is the first kayak fishing video I watched and inspired me to buy my own. I'm now going out there whenever I get a chance to try my luck and attempt to get away from all the day-to-day hustle. Thanks for sharing a bit of your journey with us and for being an inspiration. I really enjoy your posts.
The problem with a lot of boaters these days is... They go out with the attitude that they are free to do what ever they want, go wild with no worries... Every time I go out with the attitude that I might have the opportunity to help someone and maybe save someone's life.
I’m new to kayaking and kayak fishing but the way this video started reminded me of how triathlons always start. Early AF and everyone cheering each other on. ❤️
I give these guys credit. I never enjoyed fishing but i can appreciate why a lot of people do. As hard as it is to catch fish in a lake it amazes me how these people can enter as a speck in the vast ocean and catch fish.
Having had two kayaks before and now on my 5th boat, I can tell you that while boating/fishing, it's easy to miss seeing kayaks much less snorkelers/swimmers and that's at slow speeds. The ocean swells sometimes hides small craft like kayaks and low draft boats such as aluminum skiffs. I agree that that captain running at that speed has to be very aware of his surroundings. I forgot to mention that when I had a kayak, I had a whistle on a lanyard around my neck and also a canned air horn. In fact, I still have that same air horn as a back up on my latest boat.
I think if I was kayak fishing I'd be flying some sort of flag on a long pole, or rod maybe.....I know they can be hard to spot from my own experiences in my boat, especially when the bow is trimmed up
I'm just randomly watching fishing videos, and come across this one. I live in Pensacola and go to the beach alot, the best part is going to Pensacola beach at night and go shark fishing, we used to do it all the time, and we're trying to get back into it. You fish from the shore, but kayak the bait out. Good sharks, lots of black tips, an few white tips, and hammerheads, we caught a nine footer off of Pensacola beach about a year or two ago
My "favorite" boaters are the ones who think they are being friendly waving and saying hi while they come by WAY too fast and too close and throw a ton of wake at me.
Well us bass boats get waked the same way by the ski boats. Sucks but the smaller the boat the bigger the wave. As long as they are what 15 ft or more thats life.
The Pensacola Snorkel reef is a local snorkeling spot on Pensacola Beach. It is highly frequented by tourists that do not understand "diver down flags." This is a place where people snorkel, swim and paddle board. Most are not aware of the dangers of the area. It is commonly known in our area that there will be people in the water swimming and playing in this spot. It is also on navigational maps. But yes, technically they should have a flag up. This was a calm day and the boater was running the surf line where people were swimming. Hope this explanation helps.
I see two military related things in this video, the "Captain" insignia for officers O3 on your hat in the beginning and PMG that reminds me of "Provost Marshal General." Were you in the military?
Yeah, I have a harness thing that is supposed to be used for shoulder carrying a paddelboard. I put a carabiner at the end and attach to kayak, It helps a lot to put the weight on shoulders/chest. Especially when you have to pull OVER a dune like us Navarre guys do...unlike going THROUGH the dune like the wusses at PB...haha.
Full throttle and an empty head is a dangerous combination. I've been driven off the water by idiots more than a few times and finally gave up even trying to fish one of my favorite spots on weekends. I do enough stupid things on my own to waste fishing time being angry at other idiots!
There are a lot of careless boaters around here I had one almost hit me in the bay by fort Pickens. I'm working on my video of the tournament should be up by tomorrow
When motoring around in my small dinghy, Ive met off shore swimmers, fishing kayaks, Fising nets/buoys of any kind. They all are "entitled" to at least 1-200 yards clearence - and they are all over the place. My point is - you are not a country out there, and you are not entitled to "your own waters". Noone runs over your line on purpose . Nobody wants to hurt anybody. But everyone has the right to be on the water. Freighters, motor boats, sailboats, swimmers, kayaks - and seals for that matter :)
Hi Yak.. love the channel. I also watch Ty and Teresa.. As a Longtime Floridian (1976) Kayak Fisherman and formerly an avid Scuba Diver i can assure you that Florida Law requires ANYONE in Florida Waters with Snorkel Gear to have a Dive Flag employed and must maintain a Distance from that flag no longer than 300ft. (less in navigational channels and rivers, etc.) Safety on the water is a constant concern and Everyone must do their due diligence. I do appreciate your passionate efforts to warn the boater. However, the captain is in NO WAY IN DANGER of losing any rights on the water if they had no dive flag. Please keep up the great Vids...Rock On!
+Jennifer Apicella thanks for watching . What you are saying is true in regards to flags. But what you can't see due to the limits of a go pro is that the boater was so close to the shore that he was in the swimmers zone . The Pensacola snorkel reef is full of swimmers and snorkelers it is a land mark on the beach that boaters know it is there . I don't not condone anyone to be hit by a boat flag or not. I had a chance to warn a swimmer about to be hit I would do it again whether it's his fault or not. There is no way that boater should be in the surf zone.
I used to use nothing but ugly sticks when I was growing up and then once I got my hands on a ride just as good with a lot less weight I had to stop using them
I live to fish but I dunno about Kayak fishing. 20 years ago maybe. I nearly went out on one just because I couldn't get far enough offshore while on vacation, but I had no life jacket and it was rough. I thought the better of it. Just made do with a few snook off the beach.
I live just outside of Pensacola to the west, moved here four yrs ago and just love it! I'd love a kayak but after I've seen so many sharks messing with kayakers, not so sure I'm brave enough lol. Stay safe out there.
Yak Motley, you don't know my luck lol. I'd be that one kayaker. Maybe someday 😄 I have seen some pretty good sized sharks off the beach though and I actually feel safer in the water where I can see them than floating up top. My husband says I make no sense haha.
Fishing about a mile down from you that morning. Landed 1 king and 6 giant Spanish. That boat almost ran me and my buddy down too then stopped right in between us then sped off. See you out there one day.
i just love seeing a vid. of our beaches! it so funny you get to watching and all the sudden you KNOW its P'cola because they look like they're walking in SUGAR!🦈💞
In hawaii not too long ago a kayak fisherman got his foot bit off by a shark.. his buddie towed him back in but sadly he did not make it. rather brave of u to fish out there in a little plastic boat
+flyfishinfred You are right. Not disagreeing here. Sometimes one comes to drastic measures if he feels in danger. I don't drink, on or off the water. Nor do I condone it. Just like a car.
Rich am I not mistaken that at the very beginning you said you "were early and going to hit the bar" and not sure who was filmed picking a drink up off the bar. Sure you could mean hanging out and showing a nonalcoholic drink. Not sure if I buy either of those lines. Anyway stay safe on the water.
I only have lakes in my state but anytime people are skiing or boarding and fall down one person has to hold the little flag in the air so they don't get ran over or something. And then I thk we have to have a little orange flag on our kayaks bc the yaks are too close to the water to see for the boaters blasting around. It seems like just to be safe the snorkelers would need a flag to say people here or something. 🤷 I don't much about it tho.
Does anyone know the name of the thing he had on to cover his face and back of the neck? I tried to find them but couldn’t find them. I’m not talking about the hat lol
sweet video. I will heading down to the boca grande area in the december for some yak fishing. Would love to stop by and go fishing with you. Oh and my uncle lives in the portifino place you mentioned I believe.
So are you like trolling a line out there too or just casting or what? Sorry I just started fishing down here in FL. Ah first fish is nice. way to go. Hey I found a lure like that silver one with the chartruce head in an old (30 year) tackle box I inherited,,, what is it for? thanks.. you may not see this as its an old vid... who cares who won... you got some nice Mackerel. haha goofey ramora..lol Big Red is happy.. Icy cold fish. Thanks for the vids Jack... It's my month to OD on Jack and Samantha. Just started fishing again after a 40 year lay off. Got a little time now to get out and enjoy before moving on along. Thanks.
You Kayak looks like it's made by Native Craft? I have a Native Craft, but mine is open inside like a canoe but shaped like yours. I have a little electric trolling motor for mine, they make a wooden adapter for the back. I have the interstate deep cell battery all the way forward, me in the middle, and the motor and rain gear ice chest aft compartment. I paddle when I troll to go slow, but i'm 64 years old and the motor allows me more distance without getting really tired.
myoutdooradventures1031 crap like this happens all the time at the nearby lakes and 90 percent of the time it's jet skis going as fast a they can fifteen feet away from the boat ramp oh and how could I forget they also love riding as close to people fishing as they can a while back I was fishing in a 14ft john boat and some jack ass thought it would be funny to do doughnuts around my boat and the dumb ass got so close he caught my anchor line and fucked up his prop made me laugh my ass off
Hello YM , Of Course w hindsight : do u believe a Bullhorn ( kind made from cfc’s in a 16oz tin can w plastik horn extension ) might or could have been employed to catch the Attention of Boat Driver thereby possibly saving a potential fatal collision on the surf ( or any body of used waters ) ,,,, thnx mike
NO WAY MY GRANDPA LIVES OVER THERE WE GO EVER SUMMER OMG THATS AMAZING he moved not to long ago from IL where i live and we’re trying to figure out fishing bc were used to fresh water in lakes and ponds.
If you are buying, selling or moving to the Florida Gulf Coast email me! I am a Real Estate Agent! - jack.motley@adoorrealestate.com
I need this type kayak... Pedal drive kayak
Nobody can afford to live in FL any more LOL... Entire state with nothing but $12 an hour jobs and the cheapest house is $350k.
9:40 everyone
James Fredricanl
There is always that guy in the video that puts a time stamp referring to the thumbnail lol
James Fredrican thx
Thx
Not all heroes.....
"Pocket full of cigar minnows you can put a dent in the world." Best quote I've heard on a fishing vid in a while haha.
Lol thanks !
High vis reflective shirts are a must for this very reason.
- Captain insignia
- boonie hat
- throwin back booze early in the a.m
- saying "HOOAH"
100% Army vet
I picked up on it in the other video when he said staying motivated and drinking water!
You're the first one that i've seen smart enough to wear a life-jacket on one of those things!
Really??
Scram Jam - well hero; guess you didn't know that even the U.S. Navy SEALS wear life-jackets. you think they're pussies too?
I got into kayaking I see if your doing ocean kayaking or fishing yeah I'd wear a life vest. But If your on a river or a lake or pond as long as you have a life vest you should be ok but always keep an air horn on your kayak or boat always helps.
Ok for everyone arguing you should at least keep one near you loose and accessible but on the ocean you should definitely wear one
Viper - i concur.
As someone's who has a kayak fishing channel for a number of years I really appreciate the quality of your videos. Keep them coming. Keep them coming.
We all know the real scary part about kayack fishing is the price
Facts Lmao
@revenge69ful basic fishing boat is cheap
revenge69ful most people don’t need a decked out fishing boat, people just like consuming the newest thing on the market.
Kai Kosonen it’s not the boat that’s expensive it’s the cost of taking care of and storing said boat
Fishing on any kind of platform on the water is incredibly expensive and to increase speed, size and stability costs thousands
Thanks for watching everyone ! Feel free to check out this Kayak Fishing video! ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=-ZsjBSGLbo4
Link doesn't seem to be working. At least not for me at the moment.
Why did you include more than of 9 minutes of video? Totally unfuckingnecessary.
like , like , like .
so no need for DIVE FLAGS ?? not using some kind of Red float is just a reckless as the boater ,, especially when you know you have power boats in the area ,,,

You should carry a air horn in your kayak
REAPERSMagfed even some flags !
It's actually recommended to always carry a whistle... A video like this is just one of many examples as to why.
What a gorgeous place to live. I’m a coming, get me a Yak and get me some of that Pensacola beach. Whoa yeah!
I’m new to kayaking and kayak fishing but the way this video started reminded me of how triathlons always start. Early AF and everyone cheering each other on. ❤️

Well? There are, after all, a LOT of fish in the sea!
So awesome to find a local UA-cam fishing channel. Live in pensacola and work on the beach. Love the content.

yey, saw the apa pool player bag in the beginning of the video. i just got home from watching some pool games. nice video, looks like a lot of fun.
I'm just randomly watching fishing videos, and come across this one. Thanks!
My "favorite" boaters are the ones who think they are being friendly waving and saying hi while they come by WAY too fast and too close and throw a ton of wake at me.
Same here. Asshats. I'm in Montana, and we desperately need FWP to patrol and write tickets, which are nearly unheard of.
Well us bass boats get waked the same way by the ski boats. Sucks but the smaller the boat the bigger the wave. As long as they are what 15 ft or more thats life.
I like the wakes.
Happens here in N.Z too.
While they are waving I'm flipping them the bone and yelling out FUCKWITS!
Love seeing Pensacola on here. Been Kayaking for a few years. Just now getting into making my own videos

Yak Motley I live in pensacola but have never been to the red fish blue fish is there food good?
It’s awesome
Yak Motley I just subbed
Thanks ! I appreciate it !
No flag then the blame is on the swimmers not the boater!
I see two military related things in this video, the "Captain" insignia for officers O3 on your hat in the beginning and PMG that reminds me of "Provost Marshal General." Were you in the military?
Man your channel is growing! Good stuff man!
+tattooeddragon8 thanks !
It’s not good it’s great...
This guy looks like he would be a lot of fun to fish and hangout with. Great job on the video. Keeping it reel.
How about the scariest part of kayak fishing is being Jack Motley!😎
Nice video. Try a double shoulder deer drag harness to drag your kayak. Academy has them for less than $10. Works for whatever reason.
Works great I vouch for this lol

Glad you didn't get hit. We still gotta go fishing one day.
Buy a real boat or stay out of the way
@@davidmoon529 thats like saying motorcycles shouldnt be on the road. Ignorance lol
Haha I can't believe I didn't see you at the captains meeting. I must have been to focused on my drink and raffle tickets
SteegeFish lol, I went straight to the bar lol!

Captains meeting office lol that funny i think of Cpt Jack talking about his "magnificant vessel"
That’s why I don’t do scuba diving 🤿! Thanks for sharing this Very scary moment ,and good luck fishing my friend .
I hang a drum major style whistle on my PFD, mostly to keep me alive but I would have blew it for that too.. stay safe all!

I'm from Fort Walton Beach Destin area. Love the fishing out there in the Gulf
Thanks for uploading!😇
Thanks for watching !
Nice video, dude. Your channel is crushing it!
Thanks! Its really starting to lift now.
I put a orange flag up like you use on the sand dune. I also have a bright red flashing flashlight clipped to my vest for an emergency.
As always ,great job Mot, thanks.
I used to use nothing but ugly sticks when I was growing up and then once I got my hands on a ride just as good with a lot less weight I had to stop using them
I had the opportunity to eat some Spanish and Bonita over charcoals down in Huntinton beach Ca .....It was so good !
Hay even if you don't win the bar is always nice😊
Flares from Orion should help get a boaters attention.... Hope you stay safe...
I live to fish but I dunno about Kayak fishing. 20 years ago maybe. I nearly went out on one just because I couldn't get far enough offshore while on vacation, but I had no life jacket and it was rough. I thought the better of it. Just made do with a few snook off the beach.
maybe you should mount a small portable air horn or a diver down flag on your yak in case you need to get someones attention!
In Texas, by law, we have to carry a whistle or horn. This video showed me it can be used even when others might in danger.
So, I guess the “scariest part of kayak fishing” is watching powerboats motor by too close to snorkelers!?
Nice vid Jack. Enjoyed it. I’ll have to try the tourney next year.
+Bryan S thanks ! It was fun !
Bryan S thanks
I live just outside of Pensacola to the west, moved here four yrs ago and just love it! I'd love a kayak but after I've seen so many sharks messing with kayakers, not so sure I'm brave enough lol. Stay safe out there.
Sharks wont bother you lol.

You need a horn bro, for you (and others apparently)
I live in Pensacola, Fish these waters all the time. Beautiful place. None the less, Nice fish man!
what is your spinning rod and reel combo? and what pound line and leader do you use?
Hes using 2 ugly sticks, and 2 tiger sticks from the look of it.
Fishing about a mile down from you that morning. Landed 1 king and 6 giant Spanish. That boat almost ran me and my buddy down too then stopped right in between us then sped off. See you out there one day.
+CubisRyle2083 wow! 👍
If you're small or using a small craft, then you need to wear bright colors so that people can see you. The ocean is a big place.
Can we just pause a moment and take the time to process what the man said at 1:00 "I've broke a hook on a shark"
Kayak fishing is life
Were the snorklers visible? Did they have a flag?
Great video Yak Motley
So where were the dive flags, those are a must and required when I dive and snorkel.
I live in gulf breeze and my grandpa started the bud light tournament which my dad owned also
maybe you should carry a air horn blaster for those times when you need to warn those idiots. Good vid.
great showing but i didn't hear what was your final weigh in was
You did great lol on the blame . Your bank tank is at home with Samaritana I bet she needed another flower pot . Keep hook in the water.
great job that was fun to watch. are you going to the blue water classic this weekend?
I'm early I'm hittin the bar 😂🍺
i just love seeing a vid. of our beaches! it so funny you get to watching and all the sudden you KNOW its P'cola because they look like they're walking in SUGAR!🦈💞
@0:28 It's Dale Alvin Gribble LOL
Twice the ice are so awesome..there is one just acouple blocks from my house...family bbqs thats where i tell people get the ice there..
The scariest part is going home to face the wife 1/2 drunk.🤣
Captains meeting....lol. Captain of a kayak really exists....lol.
In hawaii not too long ago a kayak fisherman got his foot bit off by a shark.. his buddie towed him back in but sadly he did not make it. rather brave of u to fish out there in a little plastic boat
There are no, no wake signs in a kayak paddling trail in my area. You have to cross a channel, and paddle/peddle quickly to avoid fast, power boats.
i see ya representing the natural light 👍
+Steven Merdell all day long !
Sometimes a shot over the bow with a flare gun will get their attention!
Rich Wood Yeah I guess that is aa irresponsible as drinking and driving and filming it. Ha. I did not see any dive flags up.
+flyfishinfred You are right. Not disagreeing here. Sometimes one comes to drastic measures if he feels in danger. I don't drink, on or off the water. Nor do I condone it. Just like a car.

this is why you need an air horn or whistle homie
Does anyone know the name of the thing he had on to cover his face and back of the neck? I tried to find them but couldn’t find them. I’m not talking about the hat lol
Kayakers are anyyoning I mean barley 5 or 6 years ago never had this many now there everywhere and they cry way too much
I've never been on a boat, but I'd be willing to bet they treat it like politics. No compromise.
Awww shit a local celebrity!
lol
I just love this video. You are so funny.
I got a chuckle when the guy at the beginning was saying he never broke a hook except on a shark. How can one break a hook unless the hook was crap?
Edward Dergosits lol
A turtle will break one
sweet video. I will heading down to the boca grande area in the december for some yak fishing. Would love to stop by and go fishing with you. Oh and my uncle lives in the portifino place you mentioned I believe.
Ive never kayked out in the gulf, but i habe been to jhonsons beach and crossed the intercoastal waterway

Gotta love the careless boaters. We see them a lot here on the east coast. Punching it full speed in Minimum Wake zones. Just plain wrong.
yep.... that would be "man " !
myoutdooradv
They're the worst in Galveston - I swear they target yakkers for points!
myoutdooradventures1031 crap like this happens all the time at the nearby lakes and 90 percent of the time it's jet skis going as fast a they can fifteen feet away from the boat ramp oh and how could I forget they also love riding as close to people fishing as they can a while back I was fishing in a 14ft john boat and some jack ass thought it would be funny to do doughnuts around my boat and the dumb ass got so close he caught my anchor line and fucked up his prop made me laugh my ass off
Yo people in mass though crazy
Why don’t the kayaks haves a dune buggy flag? I would have that and a air horn just in case.
Power boaters seem to think they rule the surf. I deal with this sh!t all the time.
Always an interesting vid. Thank you
Samantha, he is TOTALLY blaming you!
I live in Pensacola and your channels awesome
Keep them coming
Dude,
What kinda hood are you wearing, and where do you get them?
Thanks
natty light & fishing=good day
You bet!
Arent kayaks the target practice of the sea. So much fun.
NO WAY MY GRANDPA LIVES OVER THERE WE GO EVER SUMMER OMG THATS AMAZING he moved not to long ago from IL where i live and we’re trying to figure out fishing bc were used to fresh water in lakes and ponds.
