The camera work here was dreadful. Very odd that Michelle was kind of ignored and only asked one question and seemed to sit at a distance to the other ladies. But anyway, Witches of Eastwick is an excellent timeless film that will always be dear to my heart. ❤️
It’s not odd. An interviewer addresses those who are more verbal and focused, if possible, which Pfeiffer wasn’t. She looked very spacey. To some extent, the camera had to follow the interview. Given that Pfeiffer is notoriously shy, and like many actors she’s uncomfortable in public without a character to play (according to her), the camera person did what they could. I recently saw an old interview with Peter O’Toole, who’s now famous as a raconteur, but who did an hourlong solo interview with Dick Cavett in the early 70s in which he could barely talk. He wasn’t drunk, either, he just wasn’t comfortable. He was literally stuttering and squirming. And chainsmoking. Some actors take to the publicity process, some don’t. Pfeiffer never really has.
Thank you very much for posting this! What a pity that the interviewer clearly had zero interest in Michelle Pfeiffer, focusing his attention predominantly on Cher and Sarandon. Big mistake, hope he realized later with regret. Nevertheless it is always a delight to see these pearls from glorious blockbuster movies re-emerge in the Internet era. And Michelle was drop dead gorgeous here, so magnificent and sexy. Thanks again!! 😊

Michelle Pfeiffer was at her most beautiful in the late 80's. Have never seen this interview before and she is just so stunning here that it's a shame there was so little attention given to her at the time. Thanks for posting this gem!
Pfeiffer is notoriously shy and looked spaced out, so the interviewer probably worked with Sarandon and Cher because they were livelier and seemed more engaged with the situation.
Each one of them seem irritated with eachother. 3 powerhouses having to listen to eachother analyze their collective work probably was frustrating. Each of these ladies were and are highly talented, smart, opinionated and philosophically different in their views of the industry and their art in general. I do not see a competitiveness here, but I see strong personalities.
I recently learned that Susan Sarandon was pissed that Cher got the part in Witches of Eastwick that she thought was to be hers. She accused Cher of stealing her part. With that information, it's pretty clear to me that Susan was being a bit juvenile here. Michelle Pfeiffer and Cher are reportedly best friends, so make of this information what you will. 😊
Great interviewer. Stunning ladies. Contrary to what a lot of people think here, I think all three of them get a long just fine - you can see it at the end…
People are commenting on Michelle’s looks, and yes, she was/is beautiful, but I noticed her body language. She is sitting away from the other women. I always thought she was quite shy ( I think I heard that?). She has stayed ( smartly) away from the spotlight, except when talking about a film she is doing:)

The one thing that irritates me is that there are no interviews with Jack anywhere even though he plays the film’s main antagonist. You would think that the three main ladies of the film AND their arch nemesis would be promoting this movie. I would love to hear Jack’s take on a misogynist character like Darryl.
I never researched the subject. However, given how so little Nicholson's interviews are out there, I guess he doesn't like that part of the job very much. I, for one, couldn't possibly blame him, especially seeing what actually goes on during this sorry excuse of an Interview.
@@kextrz He very rarely ever gave taped for TV interviews...like for years...I think he had a policy against doing them. One fairly recent exception in the last decade or so....he did one for a Roger Corman documentary. He did do print interviews over the years though.
Subsequently, each of those women has complained about the director and the production, but has specifically said that Nicholson was great to work with and treated them all well, and respectfully. The fact that he showed up on set just to help Sarandon and the movie, when he wasn’t required to be on camera, says a lot. Actors often mention that as something special, when big-name stars bother to do that. Apparently it’s a rare thing, and is much appreciated.

Legendary, Jack Nicholson was also amazing, what a face, what a character, what a persona, the real feminists back in the days who faced real problems with sexism, amazing classy females. Absolutely gorgeous, sexy, classy, powerful, talented, the voice of Cher is phenomenal, the woman used to sing along with Tina Turner a powerhouse of vocals.
Michelle has only been acting 5 years Cher and Susan are Veterans but at this time it looks as there is an age Gap as well . Susan was the actress with the chops. Cher speaks is great but she does need to share. I do believe there was alot of script changes. This makes it very difficult. Michelle is quiet shy demure she loves the craft is acting but not the spotlight.
“Are you driven for success?” the interviewer asks Cher. He would *never* have asked that of an accomplished man. Ditto with the money question. He treats them as though they’re unusual because they’re ambitious and successful. I remember those times well, I was in my 30s when that movie was released. Clips like this bring back memories of what working women still faced if we dared to want to be treated as equals in the workplace. These actors have spoken elsewhere about many problems they faced on that movie, which I suspect is why Susan Sarandon makes a lot of faces in response to the questions, but doesn’t respond directly. Pfeiffer looks stoned or bored, or both. Apparently they all liked Nicholson and worked well with him, saying he wasn’t at all the problem.
🤣They look really annoyed with the interviewer, and by the way ladies...Jack N. you three seduced the scenes, LOVE witches of Eastwick' for the 3 women that own the movie ❤️
Years later, Susan accused Cher of being difficult on set. In his interview, I can sense her tension with Cher, in my opinion. I’m team Cher all the way though 😂
The ego battle must have been big on this movie. Cher with her musical success, MP having done Scarface and about to become the biggest female star globally, and Sarandon about to get big the following year with Bull Durham and eventually Thelma and Louise. I suspect MP and SS never felt Cher was a proper actress, only for her to get an Oscar for Moonstruck a year later. The envy.....No wonder MP played cat woman....Then youve got randy jack on set, preying on all 3 of them. Fun and games this movie set must have been.
three goddesses smirking over a real loser as an interviewer...that look from pfeiffer was enough to disrobe any man...he showed zero respect for her and she was the best thing in the film...

Men understand this movie way more than you can possibly think. The movie explores feminism from a sensual perspective. The three women feel repressed as the confines of provential small town life dictate their existence. The exploration of themselves leads to the shortlisted conclusion that a man is needed to complete them. However, societal mores force them to question this dispite what is clearly their sensual nature. These women clearly identify that they need a controlling force in their life to feel secure, be it masculine energy or societal. The question then becomes, who controls, why and to what end. Darrell represents what could be seen as masculinity to the worst degree. Sophistication and wealth does not change the nature of what is clearly a repressive man. The theme here revolves around control and power. The woman eventually gain their independence uniting, but through their growth they now become an isolated force who now depend on one another. The lesson learned here was that the learning experience simply brought these woman back to where they were originally... Talking about men but being alone with eachother. Ironically, characters like fudel represent that these women still need the essence of a man present, but perhaps on a subjugated level. Keep in mind his penis is discussed earlier, a hint at the need for masculine energy, but not necessarily a sexual partner. Control again becomes the focus right up to the end.
They all hate each other, are competitors at work and are also bored as fuck and want to go to sleep. Ordinary women represent real women, us, that's all.
