- The Lark Ascending
I enjoyed many interpretations of this composition. ...
I said to myself: "Only Nigel will do it in a way, touching my heart in the ultimate way."
In my research, I finally found it, robbed it, cut it.
With deepest respect!
... dreaming of a jam session with Nigel ...

"In the next world, I shan't be doing music, with all the striving and disappointments. I shall be being it. " Said to Sylvia Townsend Warner two weeks before his death; published in William Maxwell (ed.) The Letters of Sylvia Townsend Warner (1982) p. 168.
In beloved memory of my music teachers: Hans Römhild, Werner Schröder und Nuri Sezer!

Respect to the musicians and the recording crew!
The definition of congenial ART!
God bless you all!

Today along with his three grandsons I've carried my dad on his last journey, this was the music I chose . Be at peace dad x.
this is also the music I had played at the funeral of a dear friend of mine
RIP
A year ago I know, but God bless 💜💜
Literally nothing but honour keep your heads up. Xxx
😊
I used to work for an undertaker, and we were a highly disciplined bunch. The only time I cried at a funeral in my professional capacity was when a young girl of about 14 played this at the funeral of her music teacher. As we carried the coffin to the hearse, this beautiful music drifted from the church as we prepared to take him on his final journey...
Incredible
Unable to be at my father's funeral today because I have caught covid - although I feel perfectly well. Listening to this at home while elsewhere dad is being sent on his way to the same piece. I will miss you papa Xx
Many warm greetings and hugs from Germany!
@@wolframfreiling thank you :)
just sublime this piece shows that Englishmen can compose sublime music i am lucky enough to live in Herefordshire a few minutes from this mans birthplace and walking the countryside its easy to see how he was inspired gods own county
Nigel Kennedy is from Brighton and Vaughan Williams is from Down Ampney in Gloucestershire. Who are you talking about?
@@MyScubasteve vaughan i live in ross on wye
@@johnneill4039 So who was born there?
Herefordshire is over an hour from down ampney
This is the best version of the lark ascending I have ever heard, every fiber of Nigel's being is the music which inspires the orchestra to give the same outstanding performance well done all. And glad to see Nigel is still a Punk as myself since 1976. God bless all.
Many violinists play The Lark Ascending. Mr. Kennedy caresses it.
Bloody lovely... everytime I listen I get goosebumps. I am lucky enough to live on a small holding half way up a hill in the middle of nowhere. As I trudge around the sodden fields this song haunts me, but enlivens me. All part of my experience. TY Messrs Kennedy and Williams.
Abc Bcde You’re living my dream, but my small holding would be a horse and large animal rescue sanctuary.
You say it 💚
I love the bright green clothes-peg on Nigel's music stand.
What a bloke.Standing up he can give it all he's got
Nigel Kennedy somehow elevating the most beautiful piece of music to another level yet again.
Absolutely wonderful. When you listen to this piece, you have only joy in your heart. How lucky we are to such wonderful composers and musicians to touch our lives.
Nigel, you are truly a gift from God. I've listened to you playing this, along with my now deceased husband, and it brings back so much joy. I haven't felt that not since he died but still your playing soothed my soul. Thankyou, thankyou. xxx
Absolutely ..NO.better classical piece of music ever written was or is as marvellous as this🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶😘👍

This is the most beautiful piece of music ever written and so expertly performed here. I salute you Nigel. You played from your soul here and channelled it to your hands. Just incredible
100% agree..This is one of the finest pieces ever. It’s beyond music
I get goosebumps too. Nigel is an exceptional violinist, fortunately have attended a live performance concert, absolutely brilliant.. 💯
Certain parts of this music evokes the Scottish Outer Hebrides on a beautiful sunny day , absolutely beautiful music
Whenever I hear this wonderful music I'm transported back to the new forest, autumn days, walking on the marshes. Holding hands with the husband I loved so much. Heavenly days, too short, over too quickly. But this music stays in my heart and no one can take it away from me. Thank you God. I am going to survive, thanks to your love for me.
BEAUTIFUL ..... I could HAPPILY die listening to Nigel playing the Lark Ascending.
No one can make the violin 'sing so sweetly' as Nigel.
He has a great tone, the clarity is like a bell with plenty of attack, almost like a horn player..
You can hear the influence of Menuhin. He was very fortunate to have had Menuhin in his life - as are we as listeners.
I, too, chose this beautiful music to be played at my husband's funeral. I remember so well the sound of nothing but this music, the sound of the coffin bearers shoes on the flloor. Heart rending, but so beautiful. Be at peace, know that God is beside your dad. God bless you. 😇
I have heard so many other violinists play .!!!!!!but this version is 100 per cent .😉😉😉😉
My father ascended beautifully to this music, thank you.
played at my best friend's funeral. it was his favourite piece of music. it is uplifting like he was. he introduced me to it. Farewell Richard. you are in a better place than this cruel world. Aussie Bryan.
This is such a special piece of music for me. Nigel Kennedy's playing is blissful. Wonderful.
same here
As eager and inspired as I am to put up a comment, I will only say what you say using different words. To your comment... Yes
I totally agree. He plays with such passion for the music.
I could listen to this all day. Nigel's sublime interpretation of this exquisite piece of music takes me to a higher plain where I fly with the larks. How lucky we are to have Nigel Kennedy and Vaughan Williams in our hearts.
Absolute madlad using dominant e string and making it sound so sweet
Nigel Kennedy is such an incredibly talented yet also such a likeable man, his sensitivity to his instrument and the music his genius, and yet his humility as a person, creates within his music, such a soulful and blissful sensitivity that it is a rare thing, it touches the soul, surely he is blessed. I salute him with reverence and gratitude.
A Master playing a Masterpiece.
Made me cry touches your soul
Nigel Kennedy is the most exceptional violin talent, he performs as if the violin is part of him. Perfectly in harmony the two as one. I am lost for more descriptive words.. 🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🇦🇺
Nigel Kennedy becomes the lark. Genius composition and beautiful rendition
It does not matter how many times I listen to Nigel Kennedy - I always have goosebumps...takes me into another world.
IMHO the most beautifully perfect piece of violin music ever written. The sound quality here is stunning. I'm only 90 seconds in and I'm already welling up ...
Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. So achingly beautiful.
Beautiful, I feel I have died and gone to heaven, thank you Nigel for all those hours and hours of practice, what a talent, a big kiss, thank you.......
I have listened to a number of different performances of this wonderful music, Nigel and his little orchestra here is among the very best of them.
Listening to Nigel with my eyes closed I feel transported like floating on air.
My Sunday bike ride around the pleasant rural Surrey Hills usually takes me past RVW's old house and I can't slog up the nastier 20pc ramps outside Leith Hill Place without this piece coming to my mind. I love this version by Nigel Kennedy.
Always remember this song walking my dog through fields and it reminds me of love ones that are gone one of my favourite songs thank you Vaughan Williams and Nigel Kennedy
Not sure why I’ve arrived here but this is just so beautiful I could listen to it forever...and I think I will
I’ve been listening to The Lark Ascending for over forty years and it’a still evocative to my ears. May it be just as transformative for you.
There are so many recordings of it. You can take your time and hear which one resonates most with you. While Mr. Kennedy is at or near the top of the ladder for many people, he’s not for everyone.
If this is the first music by Vaughan Williams that you’ve heard, let me suggest you try his Norfolk Rhapsody, Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, and his Fifth Symphony. I think you will enjoy and be moved by these as well.
Beautiful ..Nigel captures the essence.
Transcendental... even with a chamber arrangement. I agree, Nigel has special care of this RVW's intimate, yet masterful piece ❤
It didn't lose anything for me at all...with the smaller ensemble
The chamber ensemble makes this version special
The most outstanding piece of music ever written! And he knows how to play it!
One of my favourite classic pieces. English composers are so underrated IMHO....
Thank you for downloading!
It CANNOT get much better than this, with Nigel Kennedy……
Mr V Williams was truly touched by the Divine 🕊🕊🤗 when he
composed this, and his other pieces!!!
This is for my dad…..died 13/08/2000…….he loved nature in all its forms especially our beloved England! 🇬🇧
AND his goats 🐐………thinking of you dad…..we did not always get on, but now
I have learned to understand and accept……🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🕊🕊🕊🕊
A treasure of a performance.
I was at Transit Bar in Melbourne one night, sitting on the terrace while a little local band was playing inside on a very small stage. I went inside to get something from the bar and noticed a decent sized crowd standing a distance from the stage , many in the crowd having dumbfounded and surprised looks on their faces. I looked toward the stage and saw the equally shocked faces of the four band members who had been spontaneously joined by the one and only Nigel Kennedy . After Nigel and the band finished the number they were playing and Nigel was putting his fiddle in it's case , I , noticing everyone in the room seemed extremely intimidated by his presence, decided to go up and give him a fist bump as I had seen him a few weeks earlier on a television special go into the audience to randomly fist bump people. I called out to him rather excitedly and went for the fist bump and to my surprise he joyously and excitedly grabbed me and gave me a big , warm hug. What I will always remember of that moment is that he had such an innocent, joyous childlike energy about him .
Wonderful performance by Nigel, I think RVW would agree.
Like the ocean, all swaying and yet moving as one force
He is a great Alchemist of the violin
If you close your eyes and listen to this masterpiece he plays with fabulous skill and magnificent technique,
the beautiful and moving scene will spread in your mind , and the nostalgic, fantastic and inspirational world will be even deep

Love listening to Nigel Kennedy's interpretation; Just touches my soul.
This takes me out of myself like a warm updraft on a summer meadow afternoon. Escaping the score, floating and fluttering overhead on a breath.
I have searched for a version of Nigel playing this for Ages.... thankyou
agree so much, captures all in life
Try his version with full orchestra ;-)
So many perspectives and timeless versions out there. Steinbacher steps away and an angle takes her place, perfect faultless beauty . Tognetti shows us the human soul rising with the lark and finding heaven. With Kennedy we simply are the lark free and alive, viewing both humanity and the angels as we dip and soar.
I know very little about classical music and don't often listen to it but I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this piece played by Nigel for the first time, though I had previously heard it played by others on CD. One thing I noticed was that for some reason it reminded me of Chinese music. I had no idea why, but when I googled it I read that a large portion of it is composed using a pentatonic scale and countries like China and Japan use those scales.

This piece of heaven is the ultimate and best ever ever ever ever .!!!!!!!
I know nothing about classical music. I do know this is fantastic
Im learning this piece. This is my fave interpretation so far
Heavenly. Downright therapeautic!!
I have goosebumps. This is just incredible - it is hard to describe just how good this is. Mr Kennedy is just sublime, what an incredibly talented artist.
So beautiful. Like a meditation.
Over the years I have been lucky enough to go to several concerts, the sweetness of his notes is beyond anything,he is a genius, always thought it,still do,thankyou Nigel xxx this piece is exquisite,3notes in,I'm gone xxx
Hallo Wolf, thank you for posting it. Merry Christmas and God bless you.
Damn every time Ive lostened to other versions but Nigel manages to pull my strings the tears begin to flow but they are happy tears. Happy to hear him playing this beautifully xxxxx this and czardas habe so much feeling thanks Nigel xxx the stradivarius sings above all violins indeed xxx
I was a mother at the age of 17 and I truly believe the lark ascending is the reason I survived my pregnacy
Terrific performance. I've enjoyed Kennedy's unique artistry since his early recordings in the 1980's.
he may be a villa supporter but this is outstanding. also love his 'fourseasons' . he's been around a long time
Nice interpretation. Thank you for sharing. His playing is ethereal.
Genius, straight from his soul.
Just beautiful!
Wow! It isn't just the song that matches a lark, but also Nigel's hairstyle 😂
Wow. Actually moved to tears of joy mingled with sweet sorrow. I've already chosen the hymn "I'll Fly Away" for my funeral, I think this would be the perfect companion song to send me off.
Both my parents were buried at a green site 11 years apart. Both times we played the Lark Ascending and it was so uplifting. The music filled the air like rainbow soap bubbles, then disappeared into the vaulted sky.
Blissful
One on his own.
When we saw him at Hampton Court, he stopped about two minutes into a piece, because a plane went over and he wanted it heard properly!
Good to see he is still sporting the Surprised Binman look 😃
(20th May 2022) just beyond utter genius played by Nigel!!
And this beautiful composition by VW NEVER fails to conjure up our wonderful
English countryside!! This HAD to be inspired by God Himself including all VW’s other pieces!!! 🕊🕊🙏
❤️❤️❤️❤️🌟🌟🌟😇🎶🌟🎶🎵🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
That’s the best performance of anything ever !! Mesmerising
To my heart and this shall sing....... Always...
This is so beautiful bravo
Just wonderful
He’s a superb human being. My dad loved this. That’s how I came to love it. Seeing as your asking 😉
This is so beautiful ! Real feeling , it makes me think of my old mate who is no longer here . I will have this played when I’m gone too !
*Chops invisible onions*... 😭😭😭 #RidiculouslyBeautiful
This touches places in the heart and soul and lets us in on the Divine.
One’s spirit floats with the larks into a heavenly realm !
I feel like this version here is so sonically layered , it is amazing x
Exquisite. Superlative. Transporting. Thank you.
How beautiful is this,so moving Bravo!
If you’re hearing this for the first time - congratulations!
Prepare to be haunted...& changed!
🙏🏻🌹🙏🏽
Feel blessed listening to this. Very many thanks VW and NK
Good gracious!!
His performance is
the paramount Lark Ascending
Exceptionally solid every note yet vivid and exquisite that sets apart from many of the leading performers on this same piece. Solute to you 👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉
13:00- what a beautifully addressed, good mannered professional oboist ❤
I first heard this when I went to see the show, Hansard. Loved it ever since.
Beautiful ! ✨✨✨🌹
He is unique! Bathing better than Nigel Kennedy playing with soul and perfection! Thank you for share this beautiful music! 💙🇺🇾
'Seeing Nigel Kennedy perform this live'
It dreamt itself along.
Fair to say that Nigel and the accompanying orchestra smashed this performance out of the park
Absolutely love this breathtaking
Saw him in Manchester and he was unbelievable.
Tragically the lark is almost extinct and man has done it. This is a evocative piece of music inspired by. the glory if the lark, “ the herald of the morn.” I truly have not heard one in years .
Come to Suffolk there’s thousands of them
Yes so tragic what we are faced with - mass species extinction ! Rivers, oceans, and soon the rest of us . Somehow this music fits the current mood of doom yet also hope !?!? Mr.Kennedy feels it I'm sure. Love him.🐂💨💨
Domestic cats did it .
Nigel plays this superbly and with no music, it totally transmits one. Close your eyes and this I of the English countryside😀🎆
Totally agree! Our beautiful + unique English countryside!!! 🇬🇧🙋♀️🙋♀️🕊
You all are absolutely right ! Bring water to me eye !
I don't normally like arrangements of the great works, but this somehow works really well.
