The people aren’t ready for that first chord 😧🤤
I wasn’t!
Is it a G #5 (b9-#11) I stopped the video to try to analyze it but then he was like “ that doesn’t matter” and I was like “damn I’m a fool”
@@rodrigocarmona4548 to be Jacob, it's Gmaj7#4#5#15, actually, it just passing.
@@leonwaves Jacob collier is one of the most overrated musician who doesn't have any musical skill. I make better music and am severely underrated. How does this work? This is messed up. The Industry needs to change.
@@leonwaves my solo is an analysis in itself
A clever harmonic device used in good taste by both Jacob Collier and Claire Fisher but hardly invented by either of the two. Debussy used the same thing in La Mer in 1903.
Mind elaborating?
I'm curious
@@francoomarlopezlopez Quintal harmony (on top of a bunch of other things like stacked harmonies)
@@rezziey4733 this is the inverse though, this is quartal harmony with contrary motion
@@francoomarlopezlopez well quartal is also a huge part of la mer (was the first word that came to my mind), I remember hearing/seeing fifths in the conclusion chords in the video but I'm also dyslexic.
Thinking about paralel fourths, perhaps it was inspired by the Javanese gamelan debussy saw at the world expo. The only other explanation would be if he heard a rock musician play power chords.
bussy
thank you for mentioning Clare Fischer, we need more analyses of his arrangements !

None is better if you listen to them at the right time:
-Jacob: sunny weekday morning in which you wake up well rested and smile out your window as you drink tea gettin ready for work.
-Joao: walk at night with your dog, you notice that the trees and plants move differently at night… they seem fresh and relaxed
i remember jacob posting something when joão died saying he was a very big inspiration
Clare wore it better because Jacob has the album. I've been a fan of Mr. Fischer for years. Check his arrangements on 'The Family' album produced by Prince.
most of my music uses saucy epiano but I am an absolute sucker for this kind of string harmony omfg
I just wish I could produce it myself :|
Clair wore it way better. Sorry Jakob; your's is still good tho.

@@pangbeats4978 lmao bruh 💀
@@pangbeats4978 are you being satirical
@@pangbeats4978 are you joking?
You could argue Clair wore it better. But the comparison is apples and oranges, aesthetically speaking. One is an arrangement of one overdubbed skilled human voice many times, the other, an orchestra of many skilled players resonating in the same room. The aesthetic difference is huge and therefore, the comparison almost moot.
Also nothing is new, as Debussy was doing this 100 years ago. We all steal.
I used to go to Clare's house to hang out. He played music like this on his organ, improvizing it as he went. It simply stunned me that he had such a brilliant harmonic skill.
That intro animation was pretty dope
Super cool this type of short videos!!! And please! Do a video of the first chord 🤩
it's really good to see you post again !! welcome back !!
Please keep this up! This stuff is so inspiring
def very simmilar. As soon as i heard the first chord i knew you where gonna talk about A noite
Hey, you're that youtube guy that analyzes music stuff right? Hi. 👋
Why, yes I am. Hi
I just saw an Instagram reel you did, now I'm amazed with your channel
Wow great stuff! So glad I subscribed.
Jacob is without a doubt the ultimate musical sponge in a fascinating and admirable way. Little Blue also sounds more transparently like Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes” (a piece Jacob has performed live)
You have a naturally entertaining voice
Playing rich chords on the piano can make us forget to phrase each note for it to really shine. I hope studying strings arrangement and arranging string quartets for piano would help me with that
Jacob es un joven muy talentoso.
Clare Fischer era un genio.

I think the context is just too different, it's so hard to say. I think if it's just the individual phrases I prefer Clare's arrangement, but I absolutely adore A Noite as a whole. It feels like a much more compete piece. Considering A Noite is basically it's own track then that isn't exactly surprising. The passage that leads into the phrase you talked about in your video is just so dissonant and crunchy, I love it (ua-cam.com/video/4PIMR_oGRcU/v-deo.html). And using that to almost descend/calm out of it into the bossa style track is just so clean. Would love your thoughts on that?
Although there's no doubt Jacob's taken massive inspiration from Joao's music, and definitely potentially that piece specifically.

What other bossa songs do you know with this style of string arrangement with them? I love the whole sound this style surrounds me with
Albums arranged by Claus Ogerman maybe
Like João's "Amoroso", Sinatra with Tom Jobim, Tom Jobim's "The composer of Desafinado Plays" or "A certain Mr. Jobim", etc.
I still prefer Clare Fischer's work though.
when you said who wore it better.. I got an ad for shoes XD

Some of those chords sound like they're from the tune "Guess Who I Saw Today?"
It’s a bit of a stretch. Jacob regularly uses chords that make this voicing look like a triad. Not to mention the different inversions and as someone else already said; the context. It’s much different and hardly “stolen”.
You have to remember that Jacob has cited Clare Fischer's arrangements as an influence.
He's also cited the album João
Do you know where we can listen to Gilberto's recording of Malaga from "João"? It's not on Spotify, and the only UA-cam video with the studio recording had the audacity to cut out the beautiful string intro...
i second that
I have the CD, I’m not sure where else you could get it digitally
Yeah same for Apple Music - if anyone finds it pls pop a link here!!
Seems to be on UK services - VPN?
I have it in music.youtube.com
That's nice😳
So…what’s the “stolen” content here? Maybe I’m just old fashioned in that I don’t believe in musical theft. Just sounds like inspiration to me, especially considering Jacob has voiced his recommendations for Fischer in the past.
Clare Fischer is Jacob Collier except with good taste and restraint. Shots fired.
🤐
Wowowow hold up
You know he did other things after isnt she lovely aswell...
@@silver1788 Yeah, I'm just ribbing 'im. I know everyone has different tastes and "good" taste isn't real but it's fun to pretend it is. My favourite Jacob stuff is mostly off of his debut and bits and pieces from the first Djesse, couldn't get into the second volume of Djesse. My favourite tracks of his are, "All Night Long", "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" and "Close To You". Least favourite is "Moon River", makes me wanna puke.

Hahahaha
Can someone tel me what chord the first chord is?
Idk, I think Clare didn't think about it as its own chord but rather a passing tone
Regardless of intent, Clare Fischer is probably the most harmonically sophisticated arranger I've heard
👍
What is a "so what" voicing? thank you.
he jazz tune "so what" is build around a cerzain kind of voicing
just look up so what and youll find the voicing e.g. in the real book

Clare Fischer is the best kept secret in jazz and then some fassionable instagrammer claims all of that as his own, so thanks for giving credit exactly where its due :)
there is definitely a big difference between someone who wrote and studied orchestration and classical since childhood and someone trying to make it big on the net
Are you trying to say that Jacob is "trying to make it big on the net"? Not sure if you're really aware of what he does at all
Of course I am aware because there are many pretentious interviews and also many overcomplicated ideas that this guy throws around needlessly. The absolute only thing I would give that person credibility is the innovative use of current technology for performing with his voice. No need to worry defending things that simply cannot be defended
@@UltraLeetJ I mean, I'm not a superfan or even much like his recorded stuff, but to say that a protege of Herbie and Quincy is somehow just a social media junkie is a little bit ridiculous. Have a good day, I agree it's not really worth either of our time
Clare wins. He used more violins!
Whether or not JC had this in mind, it's too brief a moment to describe as 'stolen' in any dishonest sense. Creating tension and release through use of harmony is something composers have been doing for a long time, just as they have borrowed from, and been inspired by those who influenced them, consciously or otherwise. Interesting observations should not be used as pretexts for false alarms.
Indeed, the list of "almost stolen ideas" is pretty huge (no offense). I used to be a big fan when I listened With The Love In My Heart (and I just got waay stunned) but slowly I started thinking there's some kind of "emotional barrier" he simply can't break through. It's like he seems or feels more like a performer and arrenger trying to be a sing-songwriter and suddenly you just don't feel anything. I do not intend to fall into the classic cliche "music doesn't have to be complex to be good", I'm a jazz musician myself but there's something nearly wreid with his music lately. In a nutshell, I look forward to Djesse vol 4 buuuut
You have to remember that "stealing" is a HUGE part of music
There is no such thing as being original, nobody is.
I'm sure the title is supposed to be an exaggeration.
Jacob is in my opinion, one of the most inventive, creative arrangers.
He wouldn't be like that without his influences, which he often cites.
Just keep that in mind, have a good day!
@@francoomarlopezlopez I agree with you. Although there are several examples of songs, musical motifs, or Jacob's melodies that are very similar to previous ones, the important thing is the subsequent development that is given to the song, which Jacob knows how to give us. What I feel lately is that his emotional genuineness is almost nil. His songs sometimes seem more like a "salad of ideas" where the emotional is totally overshadowed. This, although it is a personal assessment, is something that I share with many people, especially Spanish-speaking people, like me.
@@angelziur2260 ok
People also need to remember Joao disdainfulness when he said in a newspaper that he taught Clare how to do the arrangements for his own album which is pretty despicable
