    Something I learned to keep in mind with these blades is they are only cutting when swung to the left not right because the blade spins counter clockwise. Also your weed wacker won't wobble or vibrate much at all if you make sure to put the blade on perfectly center. That wobble you can see in the video is a slight off center wobble.

    Great video. I’m getting ready to by a STIHL so that I can clear out a bunch of brush, saplings, brambles and vines. Thin out some trees. I spent working on the property all last summer with only a regular weed eater, pruning shears and a hatchet. I’m not gonna wear myself out this year.

Maybe not as thick saplings, but much thicker (close together) brush, brambles, and some other stuff that is so intertwined you can't hardly see through it. I can't afford the fs240. I wonder if the fs131 would the job?

    Wow those carbide blades are a lot better than I thought they’d be. I work at an equipment rental/repair/sales place and we have a walk-behind bush hog, doing something as extensive as you’re doing it would be worth a day rental to be able to get a whole lot done at once.
    I had a customer who actually preferred to rent a push mower rather than a zero turn because the push mower would take longer, it would be less rental time wasted. A zero turn would have done the job in 15 minutes and there’s a 2 hour minimum for a half day.
    Ideally it would be nice to have a wide riding mower or zero turn, a walk behind brush hog, and a weed eater for a large area. I guess I’ve gotten a little lazy but I love having something that will do the job faster and easier.

    How do you deal with the stumps? I've cleared a path through what was once a clear-cut so all the trees were only 1/2" to 1" in diameter and the butting was easy. The problem is that now I can't hardly walk the path from all the tiny stumps. I cut as close to the ground as possible but that means they are now impossible to see until I step on one. I've thought of a tiller but not sure it would do anything to these small rooted stumps.

      Following. Seems like a lot of these UA-camrs just talk and talk these days without any vital info? Yeah so much videos out there about what I know to clear it but nothing about how to keep it clear or all the small stumps and roots left behind?

      The guy at Project Farm channel mentions how he deals with the tiny stumps. Start the linked video at seven thirty-eight: ua-cam.com/video/HYOlZb2bmmU/v-deo.html
      Is it possible the particular blade that Project Farm uses allows for the tree to be cut closer to the ground than what you are doing? Maybe, with his blade being carbide tipped, he digs into the dirt a bit with the blade which makes it so that there is no stump?

  • @aaronhardway343
    @aaronhardway343 3 роки тому +4

    Be careful cutting bigger stuff with that blade. Those particular blades are designed to only cut up to about a 1" diameter. You have a pretty powerful machine there and that is a pretty thin blade and trust me on this, it could shatter if you hit something just right and bound it up and I'd hate to see you or your beautiful dog get hurt. Forester makes an awesome blade that has chainsaw teeth around the edge that is designed for the smaller trees. They will lay waste to the small stuff too. I bought a 7" and a 9" both. They are very inexpensive on ebay and they are easy to sharpen. I use STIHL brush cutters, weedeaters, chainsaws, blowers and all of that stuff both at home and at my job. Heck I can even build the stuff and often have so I've got years of experience dealing with these things virtually every day at some point. The blade you are using would be alright on something like an FS-55 cutting smaller wood stems and big weeds around the house but what you are doing there is very dangerous. Stay safe and God Bless!

    You can hack your hack a step further my friend.
    Get x4 D shackles and 2ft of chain, cut to equal lengths and place opposite to each other at equal distances four times, you will need to remove the back plastic guard.
    Then fire her up, it will destroy all grass and also will go through anything with ease up to a few inches, it will go through bigger gear but not as quick as the blade but can go through probably close to 8inch mark.
    Seeing as you mentioned doing 2 passes then when you go through doing smaller gear this will clear it and never have to replace string again and can also take out a lot of smaller canopy branches making mince meat of them.
    Probably just as well stick to the blade for bigger trunks whilst it is sharp but you could add the chains to a blade that is dull and do a quick change over for grass cutting as the chains will cover a far bigger area each pass.
    As for sharpening carbide blades? Yes it can be done but you want a diamond type sharpener and if you want to try then try on one blade only for practice as it is pretty easy to muck it up, otherwise it is paying which can be costly but yes they can be done

I was previewing how tos on this topic with a less than ideal connection speed (cause I live way out in the woods) and it took like FOREVER to get to the part where I could tell if it was gonna be usefull or not. You need a preamble before that intro, so people who are browsing for the right thing can see if this is the right vid for them or not. I'd pass on stihl, with their mediocre performance:price ratio, rather husqvarna, echo, shindaiwa, tanaka (too bad, no mo there), etc. For brushcutting stems > 1/2" try a Forester 9" chainsaw-cutter blade, easily sharpened in the field with 3/16" file unlike carbide-cutter blades., works great on a 45+ y.o. 21 cc echo; or an Oregon 12+" mulcher blade for smaller stuff, after sharpening & balancing- 27 cc Tanaka brushcutter has plenty of power. ANY brushcutter MUST have a rigid steel shaft, big "speedo cables" just won't cut it- they're for trimming. FWIW
