My mother has the 1969 model she got new when I was 5 years old and she still uses it, works great. Thanks for reminding me of all the great times my family have had listening to this beautiful radio
Dang rosie brings back memories of a good friend of mine, Doug workin in his shop. His words of wisdom, "if it doesn't work slap it...something will fall into place." U got the touch hun. 👍
Thanks for tackling this console--I've been learning to restore vintage stereo receivers, i.e. Pioneer, Sansui, Kenwood circa 1970s, and my mentor and friend picked-up a near identical Magnavox as a gift and side project. I did all the caps and thought it was good to-go, but still had one bad channel. Checked all caps for alignment for polarization and all seemed good, but my mentor found the problem. I'd put in one cap lead into the wrong PCB hole because it seemed to have the option for axial or radial leads. I fixed my error and all is well. Now, it's on to the turntable. Again, thanks for posting this one. I've enjoyed many of your videos over the past couple of years as I've gone further into the hobby.
When I saw the stereo I thought of Honest John that had a little building in his back yard where we would get our floor model tv's stereos', and my brother his guitars. As a family when I was growing up in the 60' and 70's it was exciting time. It was old stuff, but it was new to us.
I can remember the TV man coming and taking out our TV to fix, giving us a loner. We had a sears stereo console, had gold velvet speaker covers really ornate carved plastic faux wood.
From what I gather on other videos, you have to use the chassis number to get a Sams. Magnavox made over 1000 models, but a relatively small number of chassis.
I pulled one of these out of the trash. I absolutely love it. I ended up having to find the schematics online for anybody interested the amplifier that’s used in this particular model is called a 505 series solid-state
I wish something like that had been available ten years ago when I still had my old Magnavox or a similar 1950s/early 60 consul like this one. Not knowing how to repair it I had to trash it but I believe I saved the speaker hoping to place it within a new corner-horn enclosure for which I have plans.
Rosy, my sears am fm récord player with 8 track has two inputs for speakers but only one is working , theees no sound in the other one, what do you suggest on how to fix it? I will appreciate any recommendation, thanks a lot!!
Hey Rosie ; would you mind showing everyone how to add a string of LED lights underneath that console. Because, I have a console and have no idea on how to do that. And I for one would love to do that! Thank in advance….😊
The noise problem in my Magnavox Astrosonic console was the driver transistors were making crackling sounds. Spray them with freeze spray and they will get quiet, or become more noisy. I found some replacements online, guess I got lucky finding those NOS still in the package! Balance control can be problematic on these too, hidden on the chassis, a little black knob.
I have a 1967 model but the turntable makes a loud noise and also the cartridge needs to be replaced. Can you help? Or have a turntable for sale for it?
Grandparents had one when they moved to their new tract house in Indianapolis, 1965. Not sure if they had it before that date; if so, not long before. Theirs was + 24" color TV with remote, and longer/wider to accommodate the TV, but everything else looks the same. I do recall the 'Astro-Sonic' term associated with it. Thought that was due to the remote but maybe not. Had an ultrasonic (I think) remote.
I have a 1964 Magnavox console like this one in the video, except mine also has an open reel tape deck. I'm looking for a technician to restore it. I live in Vero Beach, FL. Can someone help me?
like a dummy I reinsert +speaker wire ,pioneer 780, running at the time. no lights, no relay, etc. I have 5 of them. I would like to repair. first place to start?
Not only is this the WORST repair I have ever seen in my life but you used the worst caps there is. I would highly recommend giving up electronics to study Leviticus 20:13.

I really appreciate that you are showing the actual work and the parts. Looking forward to Part Three!

Love when you do these vids. I have no idea how to work on that stuff but find it fascinating to watch. Thanks for sharing with us Rosie.
Hello friend.....how are you doing today 😊I hope you're safe in the pandemic .

Hello Marty
One heck of a collection you have. Love the nostalgia 🎶🔊
Hello Rosie great video I remember those old consoles that looks so complicated
Great work! I sure do miss the sound these old consoles generated, BIG heavy wood boxes made for great tone cabinets.
It's a miracle you can get parts for it.
Thanks for sharing Rosie 🙌🏼Always fascinating 💐
Great job. It looks so complicated. We got our first console with a TV in the mid 1970's.Stuff like that was made well and built to last.
Rosie, I hope you are having a great day. As always, enjoy your video.
GOOD MORNING ROSIE 🌹,,, YOU MAKE THIS LOOK EASY WHEN YOU WORK YOUR MAJIC
i'm glad to see you using spragues and not more nichicons

Looks pretty nice Rosie
Hello my friend how are you doing today you smile very incredible on your profile.
always wanted a magnavox stereo all my family had one. Thanks for restoring this one

Mom worked for Electronic Coils Inc. for 35 years made all those kind of products
great job,you really know what you're doing

i had a magnavox console in the 70's that had a black and white tv ,i think it was the last stereo theater to have a black and white tv

It's VERY easy to see what made Magnavox the largest selling console
You are the busiest person I know.
Hello dear how are you doing today I hope you're fine ☺️☺️
I have the same console that you have my volume semes low on the record player but better on the radio what do you thank .thank you mark Armstrong
Hey Rosie ; would you mind showing everyone how to add a string of LED lights underneath that console. Because, I have a console and have no idea on how to do that. And I for one would love to do that! Thank in advance….😊
Can you explain that a bit more?
Love those consoles. Another fine fix Rosie and always fun to watch. ;p)
the chassis number is stamped in ink or there is a paper tag to look up a Sams photofact
Nice Magnavox Rosie! I have a similar unit, too. Good luck with it! Thanks for the video.
was there a particular capacitor causing the dead channel
Always test the resistors, they all drift out of spec over time. It's always good practice to replace them along with capacitors.
i have an astro sonic receiver that has a noisy channel and checked the transistors but none seem to be faulty, could capacitors be the problem
Yes 90% of the time electrolytic capacitors are to blame
@@rosieokelly i found a whole bunch of capacitors in an assortment and i KNOW they 'll be far better than what are in that
@@larryshaver3568 just make sure they are not too old

Package it up and send it to Voice of Music, in Benton Harbor Michigan...they do affordable Restorations. They are former Voice if Music engineers
Great what is the name of the place?

i just bought a tube type tuner/preamp that came from a Magnavox stereo theater which had a black and white tv
What causes static noise when unit is on it fades in and out I have a Magnavox
Bad caps
I have to check this out thank you
even before stereo came out Magnavox was a very large selling brand
I have a 1964 Magnavox console like this one in the video, except mine also has an open reel tape deck. I'm looking for a technician to restore it. I live in Vero Beach, FL. Can someone help me?
that sounds great
I have a 1960's Mag Astro-Sonic High Fidelity doesn't work. I live in Orlando. Do you know anyone in my area who can help? Thanks, in advance
I just serviced a heavier version of that. I know, it's hard to believe something can be heavier.
i knew someone who had one almost twice that size
some resistors may be ready to replace too
like a dummy I reinsert +speaker wire ,pioneer 780, running at the time. no lights, no relay, etc. I have 5 of them. I would like to repair. first place to start?
Super!
HI ROSIE 🌹 ,,, la la la do do do sounds fantastic
Hello friend.....how are you doing today 😊I hope you're safe in the pandemic .
The Sams for Chassis R204-03-00 is 697-10
that looks like it would have a 204 or 205 chassis, i found one one ebay
I wish to have you knowledge.
i tested a bunch of resistors today and many of them were less than half of what their original values were
Good Morning 🌞
Hello dear how are you doing today I hope you're fine ☺️☺️
@@fredrickmark9286 Hi 🙋🏿♀️
@@shemajragin4606 How are you doing today?
i bought a receiver very similar to that a month or so ago
i ususally use ecg or nte 102's to replace the small transistors
i DARE anyone to compare this with the garbage made today
♥️
Awesome !! see you tonight *
i may have to "j hook" several capacitors when i replace them
Hi Rosie
mine looks very similar to that
Magnavox astro sonic 1p3763.. one side my speaker low. Other side good.
my astro sonic has a preamp just like that
