The first volume is already out in Germany and the story is good. Mystery, scary and entertaining. I can recommend the manga 🙂

I’m so excited for all of these! I’m also really excited for the English reprint of Marmalade Boy! It’s not about loving the story or art style, it’s more about what it symbolizes, which is this being the first time an old shojo is being reprinted by a company other than Viz or Kodansha. I think we should all buy it to show our support for this gesture, in hopes that Seven Seas notices this and reprints more out-of-print series like Kodocha, Basara, Red River and Please Save my Earth!
Yes! I really want to read Kodocha, after only having recently finished watching the anime series, and even the OVA. It's my most wanted manga reprint.

Absolutely so hyped for The Summer Hikaru Died! Even though its so new it's my favorite series right now! It's so good, it also just won a manga award in Japan
So many new recommendations!! 🤩 I spent 2 weeks obssessedly reading Chihayafuru on my kindle, and felt like I'd run into a brick wall when I realised there were more volumes than the official digital releases... Nooooooo!!! I need to find somewhere to read the rest!!! 😱😱😱
My tears started running with the immense frustration I feel with the mention of Furare girl, I am always frustrated with not being able to read this series properly, read only few chapters through fan scanlations.
I love the premise of Cinderella Closet. I reminds me a lot of Princess Jellyfish and Mairunovich (I wish this one gets an English license.) Do Not Say Mystery is my most anticipated release now that Honey Lemon Soda has been released.
Next month is gonna be legendary. Can’t wait to see how both videos turn out. Also really looking forward to all the great shojo and josei we’re getting this year. Even if Viz won’t budge, I’m glad to see other companies picking up the slack to bring us some fantastic series.
I may actually buy multiple copies of Do Not Say Mystery to give away to people, that's how hyped I am for the GOAT Yumi Tamura to be licensed in English again. I've loved everything I've read.
The Summer Hikaru Died has also been really good, though it's still a pretty new series, I was pleasantly surprised it got picked up so soon.
I haven't read My Girlfriend's Child, but I'm quite interested in checking it out, it seems to be tackling a mature topic that I haven't seen a manga explore before.

Thanks for the recs! 2023 already seems to be a great year for shoujo. I was explaining to one of my friends about the differences between shonen and shoujo the other day and how shonen floods our market in the U.S., whereas shoujo gets the shaft. I was definitely thinking of your campaign to get more in print here.

Thank you for recommending Do Not Say Mystery to me. It is one of my favorite manga I read this year. I also love how it weaves in social commentary in a very natural way. The protagonist is a very unconventional kid, so it makes sense that he'd be likely to tell people his opinions about their lives. I am thrilled that it is ongoing and can't wait to read the rest.

As for me, I'm so excited to finally have in my country (France) the physical series of "Kono Oto tomare" which is an amazing shojo manga that I highly recommend for those who like friendship/romance/music theme!

I ADORE Kono Oto Tomare. It is so well written and the characters are all so endearing. I was so pumped to see that it was licensed in France- I really hope it sells well there so that an English publisher will pick it up.

Just found this channel thanks to TheOmnibusCollector. I have a very limited amount of Shojo but i would love to get more. I have watched 7Seeds and I would love the manga in physicals. Definitely wanna pick up Dont Say Mystery. Furare Girl sounds so good, so i definately want a English release for that.

do not say mystery from the synopsis you gave reminds me of hyouka's protag's relationship with his mystery solving skills lol. So sold on everything you talk about but ofc anything from the woman who wrote basara 🙏
I was also so surprised and excited to see My Girlfriend’s Child licensed. It was one of several series last year that I picked up in Japanese because I thought there was NO WAY we’d get them in English (at least any time soon). I slowly slogged through the first chapter in Japanese, and then the English release was announced like less than a month later. Based on what I’ve seen it’s really thoughtfully done.
Side note: I really hate how they translated the title. It centers the male character’s voice, which based on what I’ve seen of the manga is not accurate and implies that it is not his child too. I have seen people talk about this series saying that like it’s about him staying with her even though she’s pregnant with someone else’s kid ugh.
Yeah I also find the title a little strange. How does the original title translate exactly into English??

i wasn't really looking forward to any non-condition called love series but cinderella closet sounds interesting! the kin no kuni manga also sounds good, i'll have to go dig around for it! personally i'd like to see takane no ran-san get released in physicals and hana to kuchizuke get lisenced. since chihayafuru month starts soon i guess now is a good time to start reading it!
Gene bride sounds interesting! I am hoping and can see Futari de koi wo suru riyuu getting translated in the next year or two 🤞

Ohh I just finished Do Not Say Mystery the drama yesterday, it's so cool we get the manga now translated! Also the drama is very good (and free on viki), highly recommend, the main actor is brilliant.

I love these videos! Gives me recs that I could check out online before buying it physically when it comes out :)). Here’s a Rec for you, it’s called Pochamani and it was a DELIGHT. I would do a whole video essay on it if I could but it’s basically this shojo romance about a girl that is chubby/overweight and a guy that is a chubby girl lover. It’s so nuisanced well written and just so lovely and a huge breathe of fresh air in the genre. Give it a read ❤
I’m hoping someone over the rainbow acquires the license to rerelease the Mermaid Melody mange. It was previously released by Del Ray when they were still a thing, but now they’re out of print so they’re a lot harder to get. I’m also hoping the sequel gets released in English as well if it hasn’t already.

If there is a manga series that I would love to see getting english physicals release, then it's "Kono oto Tomare" and it's 27 volumes, from witch come the anime "Kono oto Tomare!: Sound of life!". Why do I want it released so badly ? Because this series is one of my top ten. I love the story ! I love the characters ! And the art is absolutely beautiful ! The length and breadth of emotions are gorgeously depicted in the facials expression of the characters, and I really like how the mangaka use contrast to express things sometimes. And for me, the author does a really good job in using codes from both shojo an shônen as long as it's serve the naratives. Here the official resume ( I wanted to do one myself but I'm not very good at this, so...):

It's classed as a Shônen in Japan, even if, in my opinion, it isn't a shônen nor a shojo but a clever mix between the two.

I am German and none of these series interest me, but I still hope you get your wish with Chihayafuru physicals in English. Personally, I still want the Light novels of The sacred Blacksmith to release in the west. It is one of my favorite manga and I am still salty we never got the full story. And then there is Ouran, which i would love to get an Omnibus version here in Germany, because the series is so old and the original books are so hard to find. Just like Kenshin. But Kenshin is getting an anime remake, which I am very excited for. Even though I know that "thing" about the author, I won't let it hinder my enjoyment of Kenshin. Btw, I have also asked some publishers to bring over the LN for Chivalry of a failed Knight, because I love it so much. Negotiations sadly take a few years, but i will wait patiently until something can be said. I still hope my other LNs get here soon. I want to have 86 on my shelf.

This might be a silly question but, how do you access the Manga you read? I know you mentioned Viz doesn't have an app but are there other online sources for shoujo that you recommend? Also what is your preferred bookstore for physical copies?
There's no specific app for these series and since I don't have Kindle or any device like that I just purchase and read them through the Google store lol
There's apps like mangaplaza, azuki, comikey, and libby that have some of these titles as well

I would also love to see kaoru hana wa rin to saka by Saka Mikami) get licensed as well. And finally for my big three chorokute kawaii kimi ga suki by Akari Hatta get licensed as well. What can I say? I love a good high school shoujo.
