@@knotwilg3596 His showing off goes beyond the "teaching." It's obvious in most of his recordings and live shows. Instead of working with others and going for a visceral soulful performance he insists on doing everything himself. This is why those recordings are so antiseptic and dispassionate. They lack life because they don't have humans responding to each other in the moment. Vocal harmonies sound better with a mix of voices but he does them all himself. That sounds unnatural to me when anyone does it. He does this process in concert where it becomes preposterous unless the point of the presentation is to show off. Watching him layer tracks is more of a demonstration than a concert. It's not nearly as entertaining as performing a piece. I look forward to him working with, and gaining from, other high caliber musicians.

That's about right... I feel like if I watched a 2 hour Jacob Collier tutorial, I'd walk away with less knowledge than I started.
Dude obviously lives and breathes music and has probably forgotten more about music than I've learned..
    But he's a terrible teacher.
I've played piano all my life (35+ years) I've had maybe 4 or 5 teachers on and off in that time and it always felt frustrating to progress.
I picked up guitar during lockdown and taught myself for a year before finding a real teacher.. and damn.. I've never been happier with a teacher as much as I have this person..
Honestly, he explains things SO well. Every lesson is a treat that I look forward to rather than a chore and I actually learn and understand what he's saying.
It just goes to show that just because you know how to play an instrument, doesn't make you a good teacher.
I teach music production, which is extremely complicated at times and I've had numerous people tell me how good I am at breaking down concepts and helping my students progress.
