  • What is glory? How can we experience the glory of God? In this short teaching video, David tells the story of Moses seeing God's glory in the cleft of the rock and how the new covenant in Christ far exceeds that glory. This lesson lays the foundation for the rest of the lessons to come in this series on 2 Corinthians 3-4.

Moses veiled his face because the covenant he had received (the Law that could not save but condemn) was temporary and going to end (just as the light on Moses’ face was temporary. To this day, the veil still exists for the Jews because they cannot see that the Old Covenant has faded and been replaced by the new. This is what Paul meant in this passage. Study Covenant Theology. It provides clear and very sound teaching.

Thank you for your comment, NB. I completely agree with so much of what you've said, and I am a big fan of covenant theology in certain stripes.
Paul definitely brings up the fading glory of the Old Covenant in the Corinthian passage. You are right that the covenant Moses received was brought to an end and has come to have "no glory at all" when it is compared to the glory of the New Covenant in Christ.
However, to say that was the reason for Moses' veil would be to stretch his language and miss the natural reading of the Exodus narrative. Moses put the veil over his face because the people were afraid (Ex. 34:30, cf 2 Cor. 3:13). The main point Paul is pulling on with the reference of the veil is that it hid the shining glory on his face.
Paul never says that the veil hides the fact that the glory faded or that it had been replaced or that it was temporary. All of these are true, and points raised by Paul in the passage. But they are not what the veil hides. The veil hides the "glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Cor. 4:6).
Another important caution I would want to bring to your message is about the veil "for the Jews" that you mentioned. Paul does not mention the nation of Israel in his reference to those who are "hardened" or "blinded." In fact, Paul commends his arguments "to everyone's conscience in the sight of God" (2 Cor. 4:2). He continues by saying that the Gospel is veiled, not to a particular people group, but to "those who are perishing" (2 Cor. 4:3). This clearly cannot refer to Jews only, since Paul himself and the majority of Christianity's first converts are Jews.
The point being made is that there is a spiritual barrier put over the hearts of unbelievers in general as it pertains to Scripture. That veil does the same thing it did in Moses' day - it hides God's glory. That glory is now in the face of Jesus Christ.
Thank you so much for your comment and the truth within it. Thank you for fighting for biblical accuracy and for wanting what is said about the Bible to be right.

Does it mean that the veil pertaining to verse 14 is not only FOR THE JEWS, but also TO THE GENTILES?

My understanding was Moses veiled his face every time he came down from the mount so the jews would not see God's glory fade away. As the old covernent did. That's my thoughts.
