We are several years using our V8 Absolute and are very happy with it in general. One minor complaint: maintenance of the Fluffy Head is not so user friendly. One major complaint: running time is OK, but it takes several hours to recharge the battery. I would buy it again and recommend it. The Gen5 is IMHO too expensive in comparison. Great overview! The latest models do have the floor detect and sensor that adapts the power to the floors your on be it carpet or hardfloors and if your picking up a lot of dirt. They adjust the power that helps with runtime over the older V8. The V8 has the more traditional bin empty so the fine dust within the cyclone part I feel drops out better over the newer format used from the V10 onwards! I’d say the floor head looks better on the Gen5 over the V8! I’ve a V10 but only use it for above floor cleaning as the main carpet floor head does not lift the carpet pile. Then again I’m spoilt with using a SEBO mains cleaner which nothing else compares on carpet cleaning and carpet pile lifting performance! Too mainly vacuums use these floating heads unlike SEBO, that don’t really from experience care for carpet maintenance! Plus the brush strips on the brush bars don’t protrude the sole plate to dig into the carrier like like a SEBO does with their proper carpet height control. Not a complaint just my observation from experience. Bring back the carpet height control and traditional brush bars that really care for your carpets!
Thank you for your efforts on this topic! Exactly what I have been thinking about for the last few days. We have had the old V8 for years, but now the battery is at the end of its life (can't be charged, so it seems to have reached Dysons LifeCycle according built in Battery Managment) and the Fluffy Cleaner head also has broken. I think the lighter weight and the ability to change the pre-motor filter on the V8 without having to change the HEPA filter are very big advantages for this machine. Besides the fact that it is about half the price. With the updated Cleaner Head, its more considerable than before. I have also considered the V12 Slim Detect and the V15. It would be great if you could do a comparison on these as well. The prices in Austria are (27.01.2024) for the models including the Fluffy Cleaner head and the Motorbar: V8 - 350€ V12 - 533€ V15 - 619€ gen5detect - €799 Which one to choose? ;-)

Hi 👋 i was wondering when it comes to vacuum cleaners why we dont hear much about the Henry models? I feel like they last a very long time. What's your thought on that? Is it worth buying a Henry and then keeping it for a long time - i know my mums Henry is over 15 years old i believe
There is very little on the market that will beat a Henry vacuum for its performance and especially reliability. If you're after a vacuum for things like brick dust then the Henry is great too. They are not the lightest of vacuums though and can be a little awkward if carried upstairs compared to a lightweight cordless vacuum if you were comparing.
Battery technology has come a long way since the 80's which is why these vacs are useful, effective, and way more convenient than a corded vacuum. Maybe you like dragging that cord around but most of us don't so unless you are willing to actually respond to the people who posted on your response you can keep dragging that cord like a fool.

I upgraded from the v11 animal (it started the pulsing issue that is known with that model) to the Gen5 outsize and I love it so far.

I bought a cheap extra V6 motor unit off Ebay so got all the run time we need.
I think we need to mention about the release date on all the dyson models

betteries die, just get a new battery lol. if the motor works the vaccum is fine

I literally burst out laughing when the gen 5 price was stated, those cordless things are like 1980's childrens toys that price is ridiculous.
They are easily good enough for normal vacuuming. Very powerful.
I don't understand why they are so expensive either. A Shark Rocket works just as well for half the price.
