Great tips Chris, thank you! I just got a 2024 Model Y and had PPF and ceramic coating installed last week. My previous car (a 2020 Model 3) was already swirled up from many trips through automatic car washes. I didn't want to make the same mistake with my new one.
I am blessed to have recently joined the Tesla family and I came across your videos before my delivery. What an incredible job you do!!! Just subscribed, your video are incredibly helpful, insightful, concrete and informative. Keep up the good work!!!
Yesterday my wife asked me to use leaf blower and I said Naah I will follow the UA-cam video…I end up having shades of waters😜. Now that many people have tried leaf blowers, her creative theory is proven..
Thanks EC. Great video. ONR is money. I do love my foamer. Love the Adams Super Foam. 2 buckets is key. Be sure to use neutral PH soap for everyday wash. Use your electric leaf blower before drying. Helps a lot.
Griot’s Garage (and others I’m sure) sells a bath towel sized, super absorbent microfiber towel that dries the surfaces in one pass, one towel for wash; wring out and hang to dry. It retired my leaf blower from drying duty.
Oh my goodness. This was a lot. I just got my Y last month. I don’t have a garage and my car will be parked outside. Definitely looking to get the film put on it . I’ll be hand washing a vehicle again and have not done that in years. I was was so use to going to the automatic wash with my previous gas SUV. This gives me a lot of good info and will be going to my Dad’s house to get him to help me!!
I don't have anywhere to do that and my car usually only gets dusty so I take it to a do it yourself car wash. $2.50 I quickly spray off the dust with the high pressure rinse then use the remaining time with the spot free rinse.
I love these video's thank you. But personally I got an electric car to improve our world (not the complete answer obviously - but a step in the right direction) but whilst watching this I can't help thinking, what chemicals are you flushing down the drain and out to sea? Not great I am sure.
Hey chris, I have the matte white full body wrap on my model 3 LR as well. After I went back for a 2 week check up on the wrap, they completely went over the car to inspect. I notice they were spraying and wiping the car to clean when finished. I asked about what they were cleaning with. They said for quick light cleaning between car regular car washes I can use a spray bottle with a mix of water and isopropyl alcohol then wipe off with a microfiber towel. It does work well !
Hi Chris! I might have missed it, what do you use to clean the dash, the sides of the inside like the door handles etc etc aside from what you used on the seat? Also this car has PPF, right? You still need a sealant? Sorry I know nothing lol
Did I misunderstand the two cleaning approaches? Do you do the foam spray thing and then rinse it off and also do the two-bucket hand wash method? Is there a reason you don’t just spray the foam on and then hand wash using that soap?
Hey Chris. If you have stealth ppf you have to use a non wax/shine wash otherwise you can potentially ruin the finish on the ppf. I have xpel stealth ppf also and a ceramic coat on top. I use chemical guys matte wash.
Do you have to put your car into car wash mode first since you are power washing it? Or is car washing mode is only for automatic wash? Can the water from your wash gun get into the charge port?
@@EverydayChris so as long as the charge port is closed its' fine? Or is it without activating the wash mode dont even spray that corner of the car? Sorry I am confused. Thank you!
@@derrekb4501 Yeah! it can handle water fine. It's more so things don't open accidentally. It can even handle water in the charge port but don't shoot the water directly into the charger hole. I open my charge port and clean the inside with my wash mitt with no issues

I"m waiting for my full coverage PPF matte install on my Model Y LR, I have a pressure washer (Ryobi 1800 psi) have you had any issue using your pressure washer and you PPF film? Thanks. ...great content in your channel ;)
I just like the drive through car wash. I am not worried about what happens to my paint as when some time passes, I buy a new car anyway. To worry so much about things for perhaps a tiny bit back in resale value, in my opinion is not important. Spending all that time for the little reward at the end. You're probably working for a couple bucks/ hour.
Cool content, Chris! I just started my channel and want to make more content. Just subscribed! I listened to your whole story today on UA-cam creators hub podcast
if you have ppf you can go through a carwash you know that right?, nobody has time to wash it manually especially every day dirt gets on it, bugs ect ect
Hey Chris, re the spec of the pressure washer - do you recommend anything stay at or below 1.2 gpm and 1800 psi? Should I get the lower psi to prevent it might strip the paint? I hope there is one I can use the dial or there is selection to choose what PSI I would want to use.
What works for me when I'm drying the windows and the glass roof of my Tesla is I use a squeegee instead of microfiber towel... I use those to dry the body.
Great wash details there, I lost track of how many rinse - wash - rinse again - etc. then all the protectants Yikes! And how many times did you end up doing the tires? I lost track of that too. I'll check the list later. Cheers.
This was the most comprehensive car wash video I've ever seen! thank you! Quick question...I saw the water hose in your garage that you used to fill up the water bucket. Do you have any recommendations on a good water hose pipe? Also, didn't know you could get wood trim with white seats - maybe its an option on Model Y? I have a model 3 and I've been trying to find a replacement for my wood trim for the white trim - did you by chance use a 3rd party wrap or something?
I am slightly surprised that washing your car at home is still legal in California, whereas mowing your lawn with a conventional lawn mower is not. I would have expected that it would only be allowed to wash your car at a car wash (either self-service or automated).
I live in Southern California and it’s not really allowed because you’re not allowed to use so much water that it goes in the gutters. Your gutters are supposed to be totally dry unless it’s raining. That means no washing a car or watering your lawn. My dad used to wash all of our cars at home and right about when they made this rule he fell off of our truck while washing it and broke his foot, so now we just go to the touchless. But I like wash my Tesla at home.
It is better to use one bucket and six cleaning gloves. That way, you don’t have to clean the cleaning gloves. Just use a new clean glove on each part of the car.
Same as what professional detailers do. It’s the correct way to wash a car. Just naturally most people don’t take good care of their belongings, even a 70k car.

You have to use new towels everytime you wash your car. Otherwise your paint will fall off.
Yes new ones!

interesting... oxy clean and a soft brush
