    Padi master diver, dad was a PADI master instructor and when I turned 16, we rolled all my junior certs into a regular master diver cert so I didn’t have to carry junior cards. I fell out of diving and into cars and girls, Dad passed and I never got his sign off on instructor. I dove every other week with him teaching classes and we usually did a Dive Master class once a year for the decade he taught.
    A cert is merely a paper that says you’ve passed a test. I regularly (professionally) dive beyond my certs but within my knowledge, skills and abilities, but I’m trying to get my work to pay for me to be a master scuba diver trainer and I’m frequently doing seminars, online classes, and looking at various content to expand my knowledge. I think the real issue is ego, too many divers are more ego driven than helpfulness driven.

      @JasonPrather-MSTI Please don't dive outside your certification limits. Insurance will not cover you if something goes wrong.

    The low bar set for master diver certification is a business decision the way I see it.

    I’m a PADI master diver. For what I’m doing, it’s an appropriate cert. I am on a public safety dive team, rescue plus 5 specialities covers the majority of our duties.

    My kid is a combat diver. Panama city Florida has a navy base where they train. He was airforce. I'd like to see a vid on that. Happy diving

      We actually put in a formal request to collaborate with the command on making that project. I even offered the Navy final editing rights. Unfortunately, it was denied. I thought my being a former squid would have some pull. Guess not🤷🏻‍♂️...

    My father was a US Navy Master Diver in the late 1940's to mid 1950's. He had to stop diving due to having the bends 3 times. Dive tables were not fully worked out then. He was qualified to 440 feet. All the salvage vessels he worked on had hyperbaric chambers on board. He said scuba wasn't really a thing yet. RIP Hank.

      I appreciate you sharing your father's story with us. It's important to remember the pioneers in diving and the risks they took to pave the way for the advancements we have today.

    The NAUI Master SCUBA Diver course is nothing like what you describe in this video. Though you've visited website the and read the prerequisites, it appears you didn't research the course or it's content.
    NAUI MSD is an actual course. Unlike the PADi 5 specialty model, there is 1 book for NAUI MSD. Having taken both, I assure you it's more academically challenging than the Divemaster course
    The course covers broad range of diving topics to include: physics, physiology, environment, rescue, etc.
    NAUI MSD is a perfect educational pinnacle for recreational SCUBA divers who want to increase their understanding of diving or a great stepping stone for a transition technical diving.
    I hope you'll take some time to look into this awesome course.

    The thing I don't like about the Master SCUBA diver is you can do any 5 specialty courses. It should be 5 specific specialty courses. Then you know what training Master Diver represents. Example: Navigation, Deep, Nitrox, Night/Limited Visibility,?. And minimum of 250 or 500 dives? I have the same problem with Advanced Adventure Diver.
    The PADI Master Diver came out in 1979 or 1980. Back then you had to be a Divemaster with 5 Speciality courses for Master Diver.
    There use to be a Master Instructor.

      Agreed, the requirements are nowhere near what they should be. It's just false and misleading the way the requirements are structured. Hopefully, they will make them stricter in the future so divers can have a true sense of accomplishment.
      Happy Dives,
      Blake

    I met a 70 year old who had been a US Navy demolition diver. 50 years ago the navy treated them as disposable. Every one of them ended up with long term DCS damage (and some of his mates died). 50 years later glad it's improved.

    A note…. With SSI “Master Diver” is a recognition (or an award) and not a certification and costs no money. In a nutshell it means you have completed like 3 specialty certification courses and logged 50 dives. Does it really mean anything??? Nah, not to anyone who has any idea of what diving is all about but is it a “rip-off”? In my opinion at least with SSI, I’d say no since it won’t cost me any additional money or fees.

    • @TampaBayDiving
      @TampaBayDiving  4 місяці тому +1

      Well, at least they're not charging money for it. I really believe that Master Diver should mean something. The way it's being applied is a joke.

      SSI Advanced Open Water is a recognition after 4 specialties and 24 dives.
      SSI Master Scuba Diver is a recognition after 4 specialties, plus Rescue Diver, and 50 dives.
      After that there are milestone recognitions, like at 100 or 500 logged dives.
      They're automatically awarded, but you may need to pay for a physical card if you want one.
      They're basically encouragements to continue diving to make that next milestone, nothing more.

      The shitty reputation of Master Diver already caught up with me. I am with SSI and its not my fault their Rescue Diver is essentially called Master Diver since Stress & Rescue is just a specialty and not a rank, but everyone treats me as if I were an idiot who payed to be called a "Master" whatever. 😅
      I planned to stop here for a while and collect more diving experience before progressing into Divemaster, but I guess I have no other choice than to get rid of my current rank ASAP. 😂

    Every "PADI Master Diver" I have ever seen was one mistake away from disaster. This card gives the diver a false sense of mastery of what ever specialty they took. Not sure how many dives for each specialty it takes to become a master diver but however many they do it's not enough.I have been diving 20 years and hold a PADI DM and a TDI Advanced Trimix and I'm still learning every day. I am also humble and recognize that I can still learn. The Master Divers I have seen think they know everything when they whip out that card. Worthless BS Rating in my view.

    • @TampaBayDiving
      @TampaBayDiving  3 місяці тому

      Master Diver really is misleading and in my humble opinion I agree with your statements. Divers should practice humility and never get over confident in their abilities because that’s when accidents happen. Technical Diving is amazing and really enforces how little one knows once they reach the highest levels of recreational diving.
