I have begun buying non-electric cooking items like whisks, rotary hand mixer, grinder, graters, sifters, cast iron or other cookware that c, an be used on an open flame, canning supplies & jars, ricer, strainers and food mill, mechanical juicer. If the grid shuts down, it will help with home cooking.
You can stock up on the blue shop towels also at your local auto store . They will save you from using your paper towels to wipe up spills on the floor ect.
Recipes! Print out your recipes now and put in file......if grid goes down, the internet may not be available to search your favourites. Also buy some canning or cook books books...goodwill are fine...incase for reference. Many have given them away as use internet now.
It's really crazy that so many people just don't have any xtra money for these things but seem to be able to find the funds for that new $1,000 cell fone, or those sporting event or concert tickets, or the latest fashion clothes, or another new car, or more toys for the adults. Shows where our priorities are.
Sadly, you are right about that. And, it isn't just the young with a lack of experience who fail to prepare, I have had folk in their sixties and seventies, ask what does 'Prepping' mean. I give up, they will wake up when it is too late. It seems that many people think that the 'Nanny State' or 'God' will come to the rescue, so they don't bother to help themselves.
@@sjordan7085 I hear ya, so many folks unprepared is not my concern any more. My brother talks about buying some "survival food" but it's all talk. I guess he's waiting for the stores to close b/4 he swings into action. For so many young people they have not had any difficult times to give them a perspective and it's not my responsibility to give it to them. Life will be their teacher. If they don't make it, oh well. Just like the women, "their bodies, their lives, their choice. They are on their own.
@BJ Giauque Well, the birds he feeds crap all over my house and vehicle, the groundhogs he feeds eat my green beans from my garden and the skunks he feeds also dig holes all over my flower beds. So I would say to him "do I know you sir?"
I agree and ghee (not just clarified butter) is pure fat and shelf stable for quite a long period of time. If anyone out there decides to make ghee out of all that butter they have in the freezer: 1) put it in glass jars to store it; 2) don’t worry about having salted butter to make it from as the salt will be left behind with the solids; and, please do NOT discard the toasted solid bits left behind with that last bit of oil. It’s yummy to fry fish or really anything in. Or, just eat it with a spoon right from the pot if no one is looking. Oh! One more thing: use whatever butter you have. It really doesn’t need to be from grass-fed, organic, free-roaming herds of panda-massaged cattle.
I'm in the commercial cleaning business. I heard on the news yesterday that clorox disinfectant wipes will continue to be hard to find for another year. But if you know or have a commercial janitorial distributor in your area most will sell to the public. They do carry disinfectant wipes. They won't be the store brand but just as effective. Look for "monk" brand. They are typically sold in large containers. The ones I have are 800 and 1600 per container. And very affordable. There are other brands but I thought I'd mention one so you get a good example. Just a pro tip!
Ray Flores : well thanks for that. I do have two big supply companies here. I asked my husband to cut a roll of those blue shop towels to fit one of the old Kirkland wipes containers and just poured Clorox and a bit of water down through it til the roll was soaked. Oh. I removed the cardboard roll from the inside. No wipes in stores here either. But I had massive quantities of bleach, wipes, and alcohol, masks, and disposable gloves, toilet paper and paper towels here anyway. Why? A cat population in the teens. Needs a lot of clean up daily. Once again thanks as I have been Sharing wipes, sanitizer and alcohol so it’s going down some.

(Where some mom and pop) restaurants get the bulk of their supplies had opened to the public during the time that the stores were out of most items. We were able to purchase most of what we needed. They are like a Costco or Sam's on steroids. We were able to help family, friends and neighbors. We used local bakeries for bread.
Every time I go out shopping I spend about 20 bucks on stock up stuff that way it’s not too hard on me ( $ wise all at once ) but at least I’m getting things. :) hope everyone is doing ok thru all this
I do the same . I am retired so once a month I go to my local dollar tree and spend 20-50.00 whatever I can spare at the time and get the small 5x5 tarps they have I also buy batteries , toothpaste , toothbrushes, I buy their bags of beans and pasta when they have the 50% more packages. I also buy their 1.00 clear vinyl shower curtains to use for plastic sheeting. The shower curtains are much thicker. They also get bottles of name brand body wash and shampoo that are the 20-50% more sizes but you have to catch them when they first come in because they go fast. I get their antibiotic ointment and hydrocortisone cream. A lot of their items are crap but if you look you can get name brand items also and they do take coupons. Buy HEIRLOOM seeds and start a small garden. Grow and eat your own food. Please share this with family and friends, especially ones with children and elderly. I wish you all safety and security.
Please don't count on it feeding you, if one has never gardened before... you deal with pack rats, rabbits, squirrel, aphids, root worms, eating and killing your plants, ...soil has to be right condition, along with amending soil you need fertilizer and KNOWLEDGE with EXPEREINCE to tend to what is going on in garden... shade/ water/ nitrogen/ too much sun..not enough sun..frost.. ONE NEEDS to ALWAYS STOCK UP ON FOOD..plus you don't experience a harvest until several weeks later. It is not as easy as just throw some seeds in the ground and grow a garden..it is a skill and even with that...you never know. Please stock up #1. YEHOVAH bless you and keep you safe.
From a first aid perspective, I would add saline solution to rinse eyes. I would add also Morton's light salt to make an electrolyte solution to prevent dehydration with diarrhea. Look online for recipe.
If the base rock is deep enough you can also just bury a rainwater barrel up to the lid and use that as a fridge. It requires no power and the racoons arent strong enough to open it. Im off grid and have a few by me they dont freeze in winter either. Im about zone 7
Love Always wins From Lil Giant A comment says there may be a blackout of all social media, Amazon, Netflix, etc. When that happens cell phones may be overloaded and cause a power blackout for about 10 days. That might create havoc for those with health problems. You might try concentrating the goods you have frozen into one place and getting a solar generator to power the fridge/freezer. Other generators work but make noise and require gas or other energy source. Gas powered would need ventilation, like a garage, which would need supervision against thefts.Advises you get an antennae for TV so you can get emergency broadcasts. Small multiple radios from Amazon would allow more communication, especially for emergencies and communication with neighbors.
T Innerste From Lil Giant Sounds really neat. But I have no idea what base rock is. Are you in the mountains? How do you make a hole as big as a rainwater barrel in rock? Where can you get a rainwater barrel with a lid that has a lock or catch? I have only seen those WITHOUT lids. But then I am not young or very conversant with Internet.
@@henryvalero9235 well, im in a steep rivervalley in the mountains, baserock is the hard solid rock under the topsoil and the larger broken rock layer. Some people have a few inches and people can go meters before they hit solid rock or huge unmoveable ones. We have a four meter deep fast flowing well, so i would assume thats where my baserock is. The water barrels by me are from one to two meters tall and vary a lot in width and volume. They have a metal ring that clamps shut or are screw top but too big and tight for a racoon to unscrew. You could always make a different lid if yours always have the downspout hole open.

I have seen many wooden barrels wrapped with metal bands set under the rain gutter spout in Illinois and Indiana, where my grandmother lived. No lids. Perhaps they removed them, or used wooden barrels intended for other purposes. I will have to check that out. Never know when that kind of info will help. Sounds like really nifty idea. Wonder if would work in soil-sort of like a mud cabin built into the hillside, but your method would be cleaner. I went to Canada around 1993. Studied French at the University de LaValle in their immersion class. Had a hard time getting enough vegetables. Suspect because their soil is very thinly laid over rock. They import a lot of vegetables. Too bad I did not ask more about their agricultural habits. Thanks again. 😉
Everytime I go shopping I just grab a few extra canned goods and a case of bottled water. I am reorganizing and taking inventory of all our food. Some other things to consider are: feminine products, OTC medications, vitamins, bandages/ first aid, a good pair of scissors to cut hair, extra clothing, buying sizes up for growing kids at thrift stores, or garage sales. Basically having a mini store in your home. I don't drink but I do keep whiskey wine and vodka around in the event of having something to barter with. Thank you for this video. I'm grateful for the many good people out there who are willing to share their ideas and knowledge. I'm still learning.
When I was a little girl (so like 50-plus years ago), my dad would call a pits and parts wash a "horse bath". Of course he was saying "whore's bath" but my little girl ears innocently heard "HORSE bath." So to this day, its a horse bath---and yes, you have to make the neighing sound when you say it, LOL.

I recently watched some prepping channels telling us not to forget to have a good stock of underwear and socks for the whole family. Thanks for doing this video. About water. Water never goes bad. After a few years it may taste a little flat and this can be corrected by boiling which helps get oxygen moving.
Yeah Pink salt, Nido Milk, Pasta BOXES of pasta, Noodles, Spagetti, ReadyBreak and Oatmeal, Sugar....I could go on all day. It would be cool for you to do a winter stock up like candles and stuff for light and heat. I am stocking up on usb lanterns and getting solar panels in for them. I am also stocking up on battery packs. If there is a second wave on top of a nasty winter it can be prepared for.
About the freezer, keep any unused space filled with jugs of water. This gives you water but most importantly it keeps your food frozen longer. You can also freeze milk.
I have heard a couple news stories about A/C parts, especially compressors, are extremely hard to get, that is so scary, especially when you live with n Arizona !! Keep up on the maintenance on your A/C !
I bought a nice stack of microfiber cloths from Walmart to use instead of paper towels. I still use paper towels on something, but these cloth have really cut day on paper towel usage. They wash up very nicely.
Pure raw honey is also a lifetime food item. If it goes to sugar, set jar in hot water and it will return to its original. Sugar and salt will last forever if stored right. Dinner napkins are wonderful to substitute for tp.
YES!😁 And I like to buy LOCAL honey..it worked Best for allergies. I tried all the OTC meds, then went to doctor and got prescription nasal spray and that started to wear off after a few months. The honey has always worked best and never faded for me on potentcy out of all the things I tried.😁
Dinner napkins for TP? Are you talking paper or cloth? Nothing but toilet paper should really go down the toilet. Problems for pipes and sewer plant or septic.

I transfer the sugar to glass jars, for your referance I have listed the weights for jar size. 1 pint .75 pound 1 qt. 1.75 pounds 2 qt canning jar 3.5 pounds 80 oz Pickle jar 4.5 pounds I store salt in wide mouth pint canning jars. 1 pint =1 pound With an oxygen absorber in the top the salt and sugar doesnt draw moister and turn into a lump. Store honey in a glass jar. If it crystallizes heat the honey in a warm oven (turn on to lowest temperature and the when its preheated turn the oven off and put jar of honey in) until the honey "melts". 8152020
For Water - instead of buying a bunch of plastic one time use bottles - I bought a BERKEY Water Filter - you can go out to a puddle and get water - it will clean it. Love mine
Berkey is fine for those who can afford it and who put all their eggs in one basket. We bought a Sawyer Mini Filter for each family member and stashed one in each vehicle. For base camp (home or away from home) bought the Sawyer PointOne filter and the 5 gallon bucket kit, along with 2 5-gallon food grade buckets. One bucket to receive raw water, the other to receive filtered water. If the need arises, we can filter hundreds of gallons of water, per day, for friends & family. How much can the Berkey process per day? How much can it process before the filters have to be replaced? How many replacement filters do you have on hand? Please do your own research, my friends to make the best choice possible for your needs and budget. PS: We also have other methods, in place, to turn raw water into potable water, if/when the need arises. Google SODIS to see one example. @@oldtimerlee8820 Just, because one has a Berkey does not mean I have all my eggs in one basket. I have another method of filtering water as well as that, and it is done in a smaller vessel. I thought long an hard before buying a Berkey, and agree they are quite expensive, but they are worth it to me. I am very happy with my purchase, from their 'scratch and dent' dept.. Reality is that I do not need hundreds of gallons of water a day, just enough for my pets and myself. And, I love the taste of the water, it tastes so good it encourages me to drink more than I might otherwise.

Next, many people cannot afford a Berkey. Period. Again, IMO, it is important to give viable alternatives. Given them the option of choosing what will work best for them, in their circumstances. Continuing.... There are only 2 people and currently (sadly) no pets in our home. So, a Sawyer Squeeze ($25-$30) can easily satisfy our potable water needs. Yet... I live in a rural area where many rely on electric well pumps. There's a small, relatively clean, stream on our property. If my extended family, neighbors and even strangers need water, I'm going to do my best to make it available to them! It's all about choice, my friend. If you're happy with your choice(s), that's great! If it (they) satisfy your long term needs, that's even better.

We have a bidet kit on our toilet. Keeps us very clean and uses a small amount of water. You can find them on Amazon starting around $30. We bought a Tushy. Super nice.
Just found you! I have been restocking on supplies we went through during the first wave of lockdown. Our household was so grateful to have prepped for years, but there were a few items we did not foresee stores having shortages on, so we are building up on those supplies now.
Same situation here. Almost all stores have reduced hours drastically except Costco which is now open two hours earlier than they used to be. And some places are closed on Sunday. Home improvement stores are doing a bustling business. No place to go; might as well fix up the house.
Personally, I would prefer not to keep risking my health by shopping frequently. When I shop, I get in and out as quickly as possible, and if that mean buying a dozen items that are on sale, it still leave more than enough for other shoppers. I think very carefully, before going inside, and make it a point to shop when the stores are the least busy.
I think it's a matter of what you can afford and what you feel comfortable being seen doing. Where I live, stocking up on payday(s) once or twice a month makes sense, especially in lockdown, so I stock up beyond what I need this payday each time I go out, and I cruise Walmart dot com several times a month for items that I can't find elsewhere, or which I don't want to lug home on the bus, like four half gallons of hand and dish soap at a time. I don't intend to scalp it later, and we will use it over the course of six months or so, so my conscience is comfortable.

I buy bleach and mix with water I also buy vinegar and dilute with water. You can also add citrus peels directly to the vinegar and it smells really good for cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. Great video !!
If you buy jars of items, pick jars that will be similar to canning jars, or use the same canning lids. The jars are considered “free” since they are reused afterwards.
Oh how Hubby would gripe about my "jars everywhere" that I would wash and save. At least a couple brands of pasta sauce use Ball Atlas canning jars. A tad smaller than a quart, usually, but still take quart lids and rings. Now we can't find canning supplies in stores, but I'm well-stocked!
I bought fairy lights years ago for outdoor ambience didn’t use but I put one sting in a mason jar when we had power outage it was great for lightening up the room so you’re not stumbling in the dark you can get them on eBay cheap also the batteries in bulk hope that helps
I can’t remember where you’re located but if you have an ace hardware check them out… I was able to get a gallon of alcohol and I stocked up on it...They usually keep a pretty good stock here but I’m in Florida
Also, check out the discount liquor stores for Everclear. That is ethyl alcohol so you can drink it, use it as a disinfectant, and even burn it for fuel. Don't bother with rubbing alcohol as it is usually methyl alcohol and is undrinkable.
Just amazes me that some folk would even think of throwing food away, when it can so easily be donated to those who need it. Same goes for any item that can be of use to someone else.
@@sjordan7085 It depends on what it is. Canned tomato products are nasty a year or two after the bb date, and some food closets will sort by bb date as well, so your trash ends up in their trash.
@@Cleosbitch I've thought about buying up spam for that reason. My roommate and I get ill from eating it in any form, but there are a lot of people who swear by it. I'm more comfortable trading pork products than I am alcohol anyway.
MacKenzie Drake : what about canned corned beef. Two brands come to mind: Hereford from Argentina and Mario’s from France. To be honest, I’ve never tried Spam but I once read that it means “something posing as meat” so I never bought it. I’m fussy about where my food is processed. One very large Asian country is out of the question for me. I will admit that I haven’t bought canned corned beef since the 1970’s but bought it this spring. Actually quite good. I dream of a sandwich of canned corned beef with yellow mustard , iceberg lettuce and butter on a soft fluffy white bread. Ahhh. Can have all but the bread. So I guess I will have to settle for a lettuce wrap.
It seems so many folk are in total denial that they are not bothering to prepare anything. And, if and when something happens they will expect the government to take care of them, so I am not expecting too many complaints. It is up to folk to take care of themselves, and grow a garden if they can, if they have the means to, and refuse, that is basically their own fault. Not much we can do, if others do not share our values.
True "preppers" were already prepared.. BEFORE the Pandemic hit the states. Now it should be about only maintaing /replacing stuff because the system IS already stressed. Those who clean off the shelves of a particular product are not being fair. Some, especially the elderly may not be able to stock up a lot. They may be counting on that last box of outmeal. I live down south. In my city we got plenty of food, toilet paper, cleaners except Clorox wipes, meat, medicine. Even during lock down we were rationed but food kept on coming. I do prep and help feed people in need especially during these times but, I am not going broke. What ever happens let God be the glory.

Someone in a lockdown situation said they ran out of bin liners. i also like to make sure i have plenty of Tea and Coffee. i would also get Butter and Cheese which can be put in the freezer.Also top up herbs and spices.and Olive Oil.
Buy small cans of Crisco to make Emergency Candles. Buy wicks or you can use tapered candles for the larger cans of Crisco. These candles burn long term if you are using them for 8 hours a day. Initially the company that makes Crisco made candles. Note the flame in the word Crisco.
Susan Jacks ; darn. I threw out two cans (unopened) last summer. I will pick up a couple. So what about the wicks? Do you dig out the centre and kinda shove them in?
A whole house generator would be so great to have, especially if you have a full freezer. The grid is at risk and extreme weather is getting more common.
Here is a tip for you. Don't buy online shopping during the pandemic. Such as, Amazon & eBay seller are still price gouging to sell more than original price. Most store are now stock up with sanitizing, masks, & foods.
My area still a lot of shortages. I am in California in a fairly large city. I spent $150 at Dollar Tree buying what I could to restock my pantry beans, rice, dried potatoes, pasta, canned pineapple and mango (better than no fruit). I’m amazed at how most stores are 50% empty including Walmart’s and Targets in my area.
True, and I also notice that often when I have bought several items on Amazon, the order arrives incomplete, because they are out of stock on some items. It is a bit of a pain having to keep track to make sure that one does eventually receive everything one has paid for. So, given up on Amazon, don't need anything else anyway.
@@sjordan7085 I've found an online store called Thrive Market. It's one you suscribe too, but I made up the cost in the first 2 orders. They have mostly health food stuff. It's good quality food. And they have lots of cleaning supplys. It comes fast, and to your house. Hope this helps.
@@donnastockwell296 The Thrive Foods, could be is a company based in Utah. A portion of their profits go to charity.Tiny House Preppers Bill and Elizabeth of You Tube fame sell it. There is a factory that you can go to, but it is sold through distributers. When I buy it again, I will buy it through Bill and become a disributer, just not ready to do that yet, because I already have a lot of food stocked. It is very good quality food and lasts at least 25 years, some people use it on a daily basis, because they feel it eliminates food waste. But, I never waste food anyway. They have monthly specials, and various discounts depending upon what you buy. I am thinking of driving there and filling RV. I understand they could be a bit behind on shipping orders due to heavy demand and the pandemic.
Thanks for the video. Good points here. Just an FYI, you can't flush tissues unless they are labeled as flushable. Which is rare. If you flush tissues you're going to have a clog or some other kind of plumbing problem.
All the more reason for folk to buy TP instead of tissues, it is cheaper, and serves the same purpose. If you don't like the look of a TP roll, just sew a little bag for it, with a slit in the side or use a round container to hide it.

Last year we spent $300 to unclog our sewer line just near the street because one of our neighbors uses flushable wipes 😠. So don’t flush them even if they say flushable !
@@shellp888 Where I live the sewer treatment plants are complaining that even the treatment plants are having problems due to people flushing baby wipes. And, if people use TP that is not made for use in RV toilets it will block their tanks too. If it doesn't belong in a toilet don't put it there, I guess some folk just don't seem to understand that. One would think such knowledge would be basic common sense, but apparently, it isn't. I am becoming more and more of a recluse...LOL!
Dollar Tree does have some great buys, but beware, some things are more expensive than they need to be. Just because the price is $1 does not necessarily make it a good deal!
Many years ago, I developed a food storage and rotation system. Fortunately, I had plenty of everything when Covid hit, but some items like wipes and toilet paper did begin to dwindle, so I adjusted and am adding more of the items I use most often. Good video, thanks!
It is time to lose weight and get fit with intermittent fasting. That will improve your body immunity and work your way to 24 hour fasts. If the SHTF you can come out stronger and leaner.
Clorox was also hard to find for a while. Everything you mentioned was also out in our area, Houston, TX. Luckily, I prep and when I saw C-19 jump the China border I knew it was only time before it reached here. So every time I went to the store I bought a little more, never more than one because I wanted everyone to have a chance to get some.
For people who take prescription medicine ask your Doctor to write for three months supply. Most insurance companies will fill 90 day supply on maintenance medicine. Antidepressants and pain meds are usually limited to 30 day supplies
Also if you pay cash you can get your Rx filled for a year. My blood pressure meds were 1/2 the cost if I filled them for the year at Costco and did not file my insurance. My doctor had no problem writing that script when he ran the numbers himself.
I told my doctor I needed refills for my thyroid medication for a full year!!! 90 days is nothing if your life depends on the medication, scary how everything is right now!
Im up in upstate ny and things are finally back on the shelves they even have tons of hand sanitizer and masks but i have yet to find disinfectant wipe and got the last lysol spray once until just recently and lucky at dollar tree with both yes the sizes smaller but i got the limit of 4 of both to stock up for winter. I think it will get crazy again this fall and winter so stocking up now. Even getting what i need for my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas yes it sounds crazy but dont want to be searching the ends of the earth for cranberry sauce come November.
I have a turkey and a Christmas ham and cans and boxes of side items we like on holidays. If nothing else we will have a nice family meal with the things we are accustomed to having.
I been doing that too. As for thanksgiving, as soon as you find cranberry sauce, get it, dried cranberries are also good for thanksgiving, you can use it in stuffing, salads , quick breads, desserts, ect.

We had a rare tornado in California yrs ago ~we were not able to leave our hilltop home because of debris. The power was out. Our BBQ was "gone with the wind". I used heavy duty foil to make solar ovens! Worked awesome! Also definitely ALWAYS have more than one hand can opener! Good to have one an emergency bag in car!

I froze milk in pint size jars. When you frst put it on the freezer cover the jar with a cloth and rubber band until it is frozen then put a lid on the jar. The milk expands when it freezes.
Exactly. I was making a list today of the things that went missing for months back in March. That was mainly canned goods, toilet paper and Paper towels, and meat. I am having trouble finding canned tomatoes here in the deep south as well. Today I got 8 large cans of crushed and several cans of whole to add to what I already have. I have 260 rolls of TP in the stockpile! My family and I have sat down on several occasions discussing our stockpile list and are preparing a 3-6 month supply of EVERYTHING we use on a normal basis. We have three upright freezers packed with meat and vegetables. We have huge amounts of canned foods, dry beans, rice, flour, sugar, yeast, and basically everything we use. We are the 12th highest cases in the country. Very, very bad here. I am going to prepare for the future as much as possible.
@@donkemp8151 We have a standby generator that runs on natural gas. It has our home up and running in 8 seconds after a power outage. We have a portable generator at our warehouse to plug up two freezers over there.

I have found that where I live there is a canning lid and canning jar shortage! I have maybe one pint jar not filled and a canner load of quart jars left to fill. That's it! I am already buying my lids for next year. I am also buying my canning spices for next year now as well!
Coloring books, markers, crafting supplies were cleaned out in my area for 2 months when the 1st wave hit. If you have kids, that's bad news. Also mild taco seasoning. That just came back on shelves a few weeks ago 🤷
This is an excellent video, covering a lot of ground. One serious mistake about water: one can survive on 1 gallon a day if he doesn't cook doesn't wash himself AT ALL. The absolute minimum amount is 3 gallons a day. It is rather impractical to store bottled water for an emergency. The smallest usable container is Aqua-Tainer (7 gallon).

It's not all about getting full either. Getting nutrients is the most important thing of all. I've been fasting & training my body to only eat a few times a day very small amount of food. However I'm stocking up on Vitamins and Protein Powders. We will need these things more than we actually will need food. With everything that's going to hit soon you aren't going to be able to be going out tending to a garden either.

I forgot, one last comment, Get seeds that you can keep sealed well in the freezer, and they will last longer. Emergency Preparedness a store that sells emergency supplies, used to sell #10 cans of seeds that reproduce their own seeds, with like 16 large packets in them, enough to sow a football field. Growing your own food will be maybe a real necessity, and if you grow more than you can use, you can bless others.
I use so little salt because I use lots of other types of spices. The 26 oz round box of salt in my cabinet has a date of 10/09 on it. A word of caution, if you have to use tissues, paper towels, etc. instead of toilet paper, do NOT flush them. Toilet paper is designed to break down in your sewer pipes. The other paper products are not and can clog your toilet system.
Exactly... plus... those baby wipes that say "FLUSHABLE"... DO NOT BELIEVE IT. They wreck havoc with both private septic systems AND municipal systems.
Pasta Honey spices like Tumeric Garlic Salt Cinnamon etc and Sugar . If you have room and yeah you can make room for it is a chest freezer or upright freezer . With that is a 3500 watt generator and at least 50 gallons of fuel . If you can afford it buy some longterm storage gas in those 5 gallon cans , it is ethanol free and will last 25 years unopened and over 2 opened . 68 dollars each for five gallons but when you have to have some fuel it's worth it . I would love to see a video of the entire process of canning meat , maybe you could do a how to video on that . I am looking at a decent piece of land and I want it to provide most every thing I or we may need in the way of food . Thanks for your informative video , take care !
Be the "grey man" (person). If soup lines form or everyone goes to the food bank - get in line. If they require wearing the masks, find some thin opaque material to make your own so it will look like you're complying but can still breathe. If you're not losing weight like the rest of the area, wear clothes a size or two too big to "blend in". The goal is to be as unnoticable as possible and slip under (their) radar.

Ohio: cooking oil, yeast, flour, tolietries, cleaning products. Anything pasta or tomato related also gone. Meat also gone and now back to the tune of $50 for 4 small steaks. Find any spot in your house and stock up. I have no basement or attic and garage is way to hot in summer and way to cold in winter so all my preps are in the house. I just put 12 cases of bottled water behind my couch (I have more other places but that is my newest spot.) Moved it out a bit. Everything hidden but easy to access. Same for a hutch in a corner. Angled it and piled up stuff behind it. Get creative and stay home and use your preps. 😃
I'm just west of cleveland and i've not had much trouble finding all of the items you mentioned. cooking oil, about $2.50 per quart; yeast, $4 for 4 ounces of active dry; flour, pillsbury is $2.50 for 5 pounds; plenty of tomato products on the shelf, less than 20% higher than normal, clorox wipes are not on the shelf here or anywhere else; most cleaning products are still here. The exact same 3-ply masks i bought at my local grocery was 2x the price at home depo
SuperSaltydog77 : I’m several hours south. Was out tonight at 3 stores. No cleaners to be found. Luckily I have vinegar and dawn on hand. As well as bleach (not together). Wanted tub cleaner and microban. I found flour for nearly $8 for 5 lb. Got a jug of oil. No yeast still. Found masks at sams and aldis. Luckily I have a nice stash of food on hand. Just never expected flour and yeast to go so quick.
Our store shelves were empty of childrens medicines as well as adult Advil/Tylenol etc.. You mentioned salt, but a different kind of salt is one of my "go-to's". Epsome salts. It's a safe bet to stock up on anything the household uses that is non-perishable, including auto parts/fluids.

Still enough stuff in the shops in The Netherlands. The only shortage we had in the first Lockdown was toiletpaper and paracetamol. But prices of everything have gone up 10 %.

Buying facial tissues in cardboard boxes is a complete waste of money when TP does the same thing for a lot less. If you want to save on TP, buy a bidet, or you can DIY one from an empty dishwashing soap bottle. Leave a little soap in the bottom of the bottle and fill with warm water. Voila! Learn to do without paper towels, another waste of money, sponges or clean rags can be used instead. If you want to be a bit more fancy, fill a pretty basket with cheap washclothes and keep it on your kitchen counter to use instead of paper towels. When I was a child we had cloth hankies and used cut up rags if we had a cold often made from an old sheet. Make your own soap and cleaners, easy to do, and many instructions on UA-cam. One does not need to consume meat, I haven't eaten it for more than sixty-five years. Most Americans have far too much animal fat and protein in their diets. Protein of high biological value can be found in veggies and by combining rice and beans. I love home made soups, cheap to make from Organic veggies grown in my garden, nutritious and a good way to increase one's water intake. I love 'Better than Boullion,' to flavour soups. And, I buy Salt Free Veg Seasoning, like Mrs. Dash to cut down on salt intake. They sell it at my local Grocery Outlet. A one pound container for $5.99. Similar at Walmart is almost $25.00 for the same size! I bought six of them for my storage pantry. I adore pickled beets, so bought them and almost all of my storage items from Grocery Outlet, prices are always half if not, less than half of the prices in conventional grocery stores. They sell Organic, Keto and other items for special diets. The foods are surplus from regular grocery stores, and are not expired dates. Some items my say, "Best Before Date" I bought four cans of decaffinated coffee 2.5 lb size cans for .96cents a can. Can't beat that! And, no need to use coupons, because they don 't accept them. As I live on Social Security, I have to be very frugal. If you don't make your own bread, or have a breadmaker, you can buy bread and other baked goods from Bakery Discount stores for a fraction of the cost regular grocery stores sell it for. I have more than enough food and supplies to last one to two years, probably more if I ration it carefully. That also includes enough to help my grown daughter and family if necessary. I have camping equipment, generators, extra fuel and petrol stored in metal cans with fuel stabilizer. Prescription eye wear with spares, first aid items, cough drops etc. Sewing machnes that are electric as well as a treadle, materials and supplies, nails, screws, hinges, and hand tools as well as electric incase I need them. I have bought spare oil and oil filters for my car and RV, as well as fluids and wiper blades. I own an electric bike as well as two others, that have been tuned up. It would be a good idea to buy tire repair kits. I started with the basics and refined as I went along. Now, I just look for gaps in my food storage. I have all the toiletries and feminine items I need as well as clothes, and shoes enough to last this lifetime and the next. 'How To' books will help add to my skills if the Internet goes down, because the libraries are still closed. I believe in being resilient and prepared to the best of my ability. Self-protection has not been over looked. My animals are well provided for. I have enough Timothy hay to last my rescued rabbits for several months. I have a small dehydrator and buy veggies and fruit from market stalls to dry at home. I also like Winco's dry products that are in their bins. Prices are great, because you are not paying for packaging. You can save containers from foods precviously bought, and refill them for storage. They even look attractive on the shelf. Picking wild blackberries to freeze or make pies and crumbles with saves money. My favourite prepper item is my Berkey water purifier, I have bottles of water stored and have started using empty plastic cat litter bottles to store water that I plan to use for tasks other than drinking. Bottles are free, and it costs nothing to fill and store them. If I can do all this on minimal income, anyone can. All it takes is a little planning and making the effort to focus on goals as funds and being creative allows. My daughter used to make fun of me for having items for my little grandchild on hand, but there has not been a peep out of her lately. I have prepared for future birthdays and Christmases. Santa's Workshop will be opening in a week of two. Always better to shop in advance, rather than pay full price in time of need. For those with children, finding other parents interested in sharing or passing on children's clothes can be benefitial. Being prepared brings a feeling of peace, so I suggest it to everyone, because none of us know what the future may bring. We can only hope for the best, and prepare for the worst!
S Jordan : I still make hankies. Was able to buy some loose woven cotton material at our Princess Auto store and each one makes 4 lady’s size. So when I’m watching telly at night (u-tube, of course), I hand stitch lace around the edges. Bought the lace cheap. If I’ve got a cold though, I am still using flannelette diapers I bought back in the 70’s just for the purpose. No! They were never used as diapers but a nice soft cotton so it doesn’t make my face all red and sore. Kleenex is wood, after all.
@@amieinnovascotia3237 Makes sense to me. I have lots of pretty hankies from when I was a child and young person. Always took a clean hankie with me to school, or anywhere else for that matter. Some of the lace ones are really pretty, little works of art. I also like drinking tea from bone china cups, they are little works or ar too, and make the tea taste better. Can't understand those who drink out of styrofoam!
S Jordan : sounds like you and I could switch homes and both of us be perfectly comfortable. I don’t have a water purifier though or a dehydrator. A good dehydrator is on my list. Anyone got recommendations? No shortage of “wet” here. In a couple minutes, more will be along from the heavens. Mine and my friend’s husband’s maintaining supplies of food and comfort items has always been the source of much amusement. No one is laughing now. There are no shortages here right now but I expect that is due to the fact that we (most of the world) is still operating on last year’s harvests. We all might be a bit hungrier come this time next year. At this point, I am fine to feed family (nieces -have no kids myself) and some friends for about two years but we won’t have to worry about dieting. Won’t be that much. It probably wouldn’t hurt for people in rural areas to pick up spare parts for things like water pumps. There is still a well here with plentiful water and I just need to connect that new pump to make it operational even though I expect to not need it. My old wood furnace and new wood burning kitchen stove are ready to go with a four year supply of very dry wood cut and split. I have a cat door into the sunporch for the feral cats and they use it. I put an electric blanket (an older one without auto shut-off) turned on high on the sofa for them and an electric fireplace for the really cold nights. And a huge supply of cat food and treats. So don’t forget the wildlife. These videos are great resources especially for the younger women. And this one reminded me of items I never thought of.
I'm in Florida and yeast has been impossible to find since the pandemic hit. I recommend that everyone have some local sourced honey. It doesn't go bad and it has so many benefits from being edible to first aid. It can help with allergies too. Also, baking soda so many good uses. Soap, lotion or whatever you use for dry skin. Last thing, flavoring for water, plain water can get boring, so I got Crystal Light packets. Also, sometimes I mix juice into the water just to give it a little flavor. Good video, thanks.

If you are a canner, buy whatever lids you see. In my area in the midwest, none of the stores have them. A few people are trying to sell a box of 12 on facebook marketplace for $10/box... speaking of price gouging!!
WM is basically out; the one pack at $14+ is basically a placeholder. At that price you might as well buy a box of jars with lids as they are cheaper per dozen.
@@donnabrown1518 That's always a question at this point. I've got them on my shopping list just in case I see some on my grocery run this weekend. It will be one of the hottest weekends of the summer, but I am helping out another family, and they need supplies more than we do. Otherwise, I would settle in here at home with a half-frozen bottle of water and wait for evening or a break in the weather. On the upside, I'll get fresh veggies and mushrooms for the dehydrator.

I was shocked the baby wipes went out really quick and you couldn't get them. I have a baby and a young child who is potty training so I need wipes. Thankfully I always keep a nice stock on hand. But I had friends who didn't have any. I was grateful that I was able to share a little bit.
I have begun buying non-electric cooking items like whisks, rotary hand mixer, grinder, graters, sifters, cast iron or other cookware that c, an be used on an open flame, canning supplies & jars, ricer, strainers and food mill, mechanical juicer. If the grid shuts down, it will help with home cooking.

You can stock up on the blue shop towels also at your local auto store . They will save you from using your paper towels to wipe up spills on the floor ect.
Recipes! Print out your recipes now and put in file......if grid goes down, the internet may not be available to search your favourites. Also buy some canning or cook books books...goodwill are fine...incase for reference. Many have given them away as use internet now.

It's really crazy that so many people just don't have any xtra money for these things but seem to be able to find the funds for that new $1,000 cell fone, or those sporting event or concert tickets, or the latest fashion clothes, or another new car, or more toys for the adults. Shows where our priorities are.
Sadly, you are right about that. And, it isn't just the young with a lack of experience who fail to prepare, I have had folk in their sixties and seventies, ask what does 'Prepping' mean. I give up, they will wake up when it is too late. It seems that many people think that the 'Nanny State' or 'God' will come to the rescue, so they don't bother to help themselves.

I guess he's waiting for the stores to close b/4 he swings into action. For so many young people they have not had any difficult times to give them a perspective and it's not my responsibility to give it to them. Life will be their teacher. Coconut oil has a great shelf life does not require refrigeration and will replace butter in cooking..
I agree and ghee (not just clarified butter) is pure fat and shelf stable for quite a long period of time. If anyone out there decides to make ghee out of all that butter they have in the freezer: 1) put it in glass jars to store it; 2) don’t worry about having salted butter to make it from as the salt will be left behind with the solids; and, please do NOT discard the toasted solid bits left behind with that last bit of oil. It’s yummy to fry fish or really anything in. Or, just eat it with a spoon right from the pot if no one is looking. Oh! One more thing: use whatever butter you have. It really doesn’t need to be from grass-fed, organic, free-roaming herds of panda-massaged cattle.
I made ghee the other day
I'm in the commercial cleaning business. I heard on the news yesterday that clorox disinfectant wipes will continue to be hard to find for another year. But if you know or have a commercial janitorial distributor in your area most will sell to the public. They do carry disinfectant wipes. They won't be the store brand but just as effective.
Look for "monk" brand. They are typically sold in large containers.
The ones I have are 800 and 1600 per container. And very affordable.
There are other brands but I thought I'd mention one so you get a good example.

Ray Flores : well thanks for that. I do have two big supply companies here. I asked my husband to cut a roll of those blue shop towels to fit one of the old Kirkland wipes containers and just poured Clorox and a bit of water down through it til the roll was soaked. Oh. I removed the cardboard roll from the inside. No wipes in stores here either. But I had massive quantities of bleach, wipes, and alcohol, masks, and disposable gloves, toilet paper and paper towels here anyway. Why? A cat population in the teens. Needs a lot of clean up daily. Once again thanks as I have been Sharing wipes, sanitizer and alcohol so it’s going down some.
@@amieinnovascotia3237 I also found out that restaurant depot stores. (Where some mom and pop) restaurants get the bulk of their supplies had opened to the public during the time that the stores were out of most items. We were able to purchase most of what we needed.
They are like a Costco or Sam's on steroids. We were able to help family, friends and neighbors.
We used local bakeries for bread.

I do the same . I am retired so once a month I go to my local dollar tree and spend 20-50.00 whatever I can spare at the time and get the small 5x5 tarps they have I also buy batteries , toothpaste , toothbrushes, I buy their bags of beans and pasta when they have the 50% more packages. I also buy their 1.00 clear vinyl shower curtains to use for plastic sheeting. The shower curtains are much thicker. They also get bottles of name brand body wash and shampoo that are the 20-50% more sizes but you have to catch them when they first come in because they go fast. I get their antibiotic ointment and hydrocortisone cream. A lot of their items are crap but if you look you can get name brand items also and they do take coupons. Buy HEIRLOOM seeds and start a small garden. Grow and eat your own food. Please share this with family and friends, especially ones with children and elderly. I wish you all safety and security.
Please don't count on it feeding you, if one has never gardened before... you deal with pack rats, rabbits, squirrel, aphids, root worms, eating and killing your plants, ...soil has to be right condition, along with amending soil you need fertilizer and KNOWLEDGE with EXPEREINCE to tend to what is going on in garden... shade/ water/ nitrogen/ too much sun..not enough sun..frost.. ONE NEEDS to ALWAYS STOCK UP ON FOOD..plus you don't experience a harvest until several weeks later. It is not as easy as just throw some seeds in the ground and grow a garden..it is a skill and even with that...you never know. Please stock up #1. YEHOVAH bless you and keep you safe.
From a first aid perspective, I would add saline solution to rinse eyes. I would add also Morton's light salt to make an electrolyte solution to prevent dehydration with diarrhea. Look online for recipe.
If you buy Can goods make sure you have a MANUAL can opener on hand.
No electricity, no getting into the cans without one.
Buy a mini fridge and a solar generator when the power goes out so you still have some cold food. They sell them on Amazon 👍🏻
If the base rock is deep enough you can also just bury a rainwater barrel up to the lid and use that as a fridge. It requires no power and the racoons arent strong enough to open it. Im off grid and have a few by me they dont freeze in winter either. Im about zone 7
Love Always wins From Lil Giant A comment says there may be a blackout of all social media, Amazon, Netflix, etc. When that happens cell phones may be overloaded and cause a power blackout for about 10 days. That might create havoc for those with health problems. You might try concentrating the goods you have frozen into one place and getting a solar generator to power the fridge/freezer. Other generators work but make noise and require gas or other energy source. Gas powered would need ventilation, like a garage, which would need supervision against thefts.Advises you get an antennae for TV so you can get emergency broadcasts. Small multiple radios from Amazon would allow more communication, especially for emergencies and communication with neighbors.
T Innerste From Lil Giant Sounds really neat. But I have no idea what base rock is. Are you in the mountains? How do you make a hole as big as a rainwater barrel in rock? Where can you get a rainwater barrel with a lid that has a lock or catch? I have only seen those WITHOUT lids. But then I am not young or very conversant with Internet.
@@henryvalero9235 well, im in a steep rivervalley in the mountains, baserock is the hard solid rock under the topsoil and the larger broken rock layer. Some people have a few inches and people can go meters before they hit solid rock or huge unmoveable ones. We have a four meter deep fast flowing well, so i would assume thats where my baserock is. The water barrels by me are from one to two meters tall and vary a lot in width and volume. They have a metal ring that clamps shut or are screw top but too big and tight for a racoon to unscrew. You could always make a different lid if yours always have the downspout hole open.

I have seen many wooden barrels wrapped with metal bands set under the rain gutter spout in Illinois and Indiana, where my grandmother lived. No lids. Perhaps they removed them, or used wooden barrels intended for other purposes. I will have to check that out. Never know when that kind of info will help. Sounds like really nifty idea. Wonder if would work in soil-sort of like a mud cabin built into the hillside, but your method would be cleaner.
I went to Canada around 1993. Studied French at the University de LaValle in their immersion class. Had a hard time getting enough vegetables. Suspect because their soil is very thinly laid over rock. They import a lot of vegetables. Too bad I did not ask more about their agricultural habits. Thanks again. 😉
Dried milk--my mom used to add a touch of vanilla to the milk so that we children would drink it.

Everytime I go shopping I just grab a few extra canned goods and a case of bottled water. I am reorganizing and taking inventory of all our food. Some other things to consider are: feminine products, OTC medications, vitamins, bandages/ first aid, a good pair of scissors to cut hair, extra clothing, buying sizes up for growing kids at thrift stores, or garage sales. Basically having a mini store in your home. I don't drink but I do keep whiskey wine and vodka around in the event of having something to barter with. Thank you for this video. I'm grateful for the many good people out there who are willing to share their ideas and knowledge. I'm still learning.
When I was a little girl (so like 50-plus years ago), my dad would call a pits and parts wash a "horse bath". Of course he was saying "whore's bath" but my little girl ears innocently heard "HORSE bath." So to this day, its a horse bath---and yes, you have to make the neighing sound when you say it, LOL.

I recently watched some prepping channels telling us not to forget to have a good stock of underwear and socks for the whole family. So many of us cannot make our own clothing and/or don't have the materials to make them. It's good advice and helps with morale and personal hygiene.

Yeah Pink salt, Nido Milk, Pasta BOXES of pasta, Noodles, Spagetti, ReadyBreak and Oatmeal, Sugar....I could go on all day. It would be cool for you to do a winter stock up like candles and stuff for light and heat. I am stocking up on usb lanterns and getting solar panels in for them. I am also stocking up on battery packs. If there is a second wave on top of a nasty winter it can be prepared for.
About the freezer, keep any unused space filled with jugs of water. This gives you water but most importantly it keeps your food frozen longer. You can also freeze milk.
For the people with Central Air-conditioning get your Filters now. It was hard to get the size we needed for a few months.

I bought a nice stack of microfiber cloths from Walmart to use instead of paper towels. I still use paper towels on something, but these cloth have really cut day on paper towel usage. They wash up very nicely.
Pure raw honey is also a lifetime food item. If it goes to sugar, set jar in hot water and it will return to its original. Sugar and salt will last forever if stored right. Dinner napkins are wonderful to substitute for tp.
YES!😁 And I like to buy LOCAL honey..it worked Best for allergies. I tried all the OTC meds, then went to doctor and got prescription nasal spray and that started to wear off after a few months. The honey has always worked best and never faded for me on potentcy out of all the things I tried.😁

Dinner napkins for TP? Are you talking paper or cloth? Nothing but toilet paper should really go down the toilet. Problems for pipes and sewer plant or septic.

I store salt in wide mouth pint canning jars. 1 pint =1 pound
With an oxygen absorber in the top the salt and sugar doesnt draw moister and turn into a lump.
Store honey in a glass jar. If it crystallizes heat the honey in a warm oven (turn on to lowest temperature and the when its preheated turn the oven off and put jar of honey in) until the honey "melts".

For Water - instead of buying a bunch of plastic one time use bottles - I bought a BERKEY Water Filter - you can go out to a puddle and get water - it will clean it. Love mine
I agree, I love my Berkey too. It really works and encourages me to drink more water, because it tastes so good!
Berkey is fine for those who can afford it and who put all their eggs in one basket. We bought a Sawyer Mini Filter for each family member and stashed one in each vehicle. For base camp (home or away from home) bought the Sawyer PointOne filter and the 5 gallon bucket kit, along with 2 5-gallon food grade buckets. One bucket to receive raw water, the other to receive filtered water. If the need arises, we can filter hundreds of gallons of water, per day, for friends & family. How much can the Berkey process per day? How much can it process before the filters have to be replaced? How many replacement filters do you have on hand?
Please do your own research, my friends to make the best choice possible for your needs and budget.
PS: We also have other methods, in place, to turn raw water into potable water, if/when the need arises. Google SODIS to see one example.

I thought long an hard before buying a Berkey, and agree they are quite expensive, but they are worth it to me. I am very happy with my purchase, from their 'scratch and dent' dept.. Reality is that I do not need hundreds of gallons of water a day, just enough for my pets and myself. And, I love the taste of the water, it tastes so good it encourages me to drink more than I might otherwise.

Next, many people cannot afford a Berkey. Period. Again, IMO, it is important to give viable alternatives. Given them the option of choosing what will work best for them, in their circumstances.
Continuing.... There are only 2 people and currently (sadly) no pets in our home. So, a Sawyer Squeeze ($25-$30) can easily satisfy our potable water needs. Yet... I live in a rural area where many rely on electric well pumps. There's a small, relatively clean, stream on our property. If my extended family, neighbors and even strangers need water, I'm going to do my best to make it available to them!
It's all about choice, my friend. If you're happy with your choice(s), that's great! If it (they) satisfy your long term needs, that's even better.

We have a bidet kit on our toilet. Keeps us very clean and uses a small amount of water. You can find them on Amazon starting around $30. We bought a Tushy. Super nice.
Just found you! I have been restocking on supplies we went through during the first wave of lockdown. Our household was so grateful to have prepped for years, but there were a few items we did not foresee stores having shortages on, so we are building up on those supplies now.
Our small town is still not 100% our Walmart use to be a 24hour Walmart now they are only open till 8:30they can't keep the shelves stocked up

Same situation here. Almost all stores have reduced hours drastically except Costco which is now open two hours earlier than they used to be. And some places are closed on Sunday. Home improvement stores are doing a bustling business. No place to go; might as well fix up the house.

Start now buying 1-2 of ?? weekly. Not a raid on an item but a controlled stocking up.
Personally, I would prefer not to keep risking my health by shopping frequently. When I shop, I get in and out as quickly as possible, and if that mean buying a dozen items that are on sale, it still leave more than enough for other shoppers. I think very carefully, before going inside, and make it a point to shop when the stores are the least busy.
That's what I have been doing.
I think it's a matter of what you can afford and what you feel comfortable being seen doing. Where I live, stocking up on payday(s) once or twice a month makes sense, especially in lockdown, so I stock up beyond what I need this payday each time I go out, and I cruise Walmart dot com several times a month for items that I can't find elsewhere, or which I don't want to lug home on the bus, like four half gallons of hand and dish soap at a time. I don't intend to scalp it later, and we will use it over the course of six months or so, so my conscience is comfortable.

I buy bleach and mix with water I also buy vinegar and dilute with water. You can also add citrus peels directly to the vinegar and it smells really good for cleaning the bathroom and kitchen. Great video !!

If you buy jars of items, pick jars that will be similar to canning jars, or use the same canning lids. The jars are considered “free” since they are reused afterwards.
Oh how Hubby would gripe about my "jars everywhere" that I would wash and save. At least a couple brands of pasta sauce use Ball Atlas canning jars. A tad smaller than a quart, usually, but still take quart lids and rings. Now we can't find canning supplies in stores, but I'm well-stocked!
I bought fairy lights years ago for outdoor ambience didn’t use but I put one sting in a mason jar when we had power outage it was great for lightening up the room so you’re not stumbling in the dark you can get them on eBay cheap also the batteries in bulk hope that helps
I can’t remember where you’re located but if you have an ace hardware check them out… I was able to get a gallon of alcohol and I stocked up on it...They usually keep a pretty good stock here but I’m in Florida
Also, check out the discount liquor stores for Everclear. That is ethyl alcohol so you can drink it, use it as a disinfectant, and even burn it for fuel. Don't bother with rubbing alcohol as it is usually methyl alcohol and is undrinkable.

@@sjordan7085 It depends on what it is. Canned tomato products are nasty a year or two after the bb date, and some food closets will sort by bb date as well, so your trash ends up in their trash.

MacKenzie Drake : what about canned corned beef. Two brands come to mind: Hereford from Argentina and Mario’s from France. To be honest, I’ve never tried Spam but I once read that it means “something posing as meat” so I never bought it. I’m fussy about where my food is processed. One very large Asian country is out of the question for me. I will admit that I haven’t bought canned corned beef since the 1970’s but bought it this spring. Actually quite good. I dream of a sandwich of canned corned beef with yellow mustard , iceberg lettuce and butter on a soft fluffy white bread. Ahhh. Can have all but the bread. So I guess I will have to settle for a lettuce wrap.

There’s a difference between buying up thousands of tp rolls and trying to resell them and tucking away a good supply of food for emergencies.
It seems so many folk are in total denial that they are not bothering to prepare anything. And, if and when something happens they will expect the government to take care of them, so I am not expecting too many complaints. It is up to folk to take care of themselves, and grow a garden if they can, if they have the means to, and refuse, that is basically their own fault. Not much we can do, if others do not share our values.
True "preppers" were already prepared.. BEFORE the Pandemic hit the states. Now it should be about only maintaing /replacing stuff because the system IS already stressed.
Those who clean off the shelves of a particular product are not being fair. Some, especially the elderly may not be able to stock up a lot. They may be counting on that last box of outmeal. Everyone.. be kind and share. 😘

I live down south. In my city we got plenty of food, toilet paper, cleaners except Clorox wipes, meat, medicine. Even during lock down we were rationed but food kept on coming. I do prep and help feed people in need especially during these times but, I am not going broke. What ever happens let God be the glory.

Buy small cans of Crisco to make Emergency Candles. Buy wicks or you can use tapered candles for the larger cans of Crisco. These candles burn long term if you are using them for 8 hours a day. Initially the company that makes Crisco made candles. Note the flame in the word Crisco.

Here is a tip for you. Don't buy online shopping during the pandemic. Such as, Amazon & eBay seller are still price gouging to sell more than original price. Most store are now stock up with sanitizing, masks, & foods.

My area still a lot of shortages. I am in California in a fairly large city. I spent $150 at Dollar Tree buying what I could to restock my pantry beans, rice, dried potatoes, pasta, canned pineapple and mango (better than no fruit). I’m amazed at how most stores are 50% empty including Walmart’s and Targets in my area.
True, and I also notice that often when I have bought several items on Amazon, the order arrives incomplete, because they are out of stock on some items. It is a bit of a pain having to keep track to make sure that one does eventually receive everything one has paid for. So, given up on Amazon, don't need anything else anyway.
@@sjordan7085 I've found an online store called Thrive Market. It's one you suscribe too, but I made up the cost in the first 2 orders. They have mostly health food stuff. It's good quality food. And they have lots of cleaning supplys. It comes fast, and to your house. Hope this helps.

There is a factory that you can go to, but it is sold through distributers. When I buy it again, I will buy it through Bill and become a disributer, just not ready to do that yet, because I already have a lot of food stocked. It is very good quality food and lasts at least 25 years, some people use it on a daily basis, because they feel it eliminates food waste. But, I never waste food anyway. They have monthly specials, and various discounts depending upon what you buy. I am thinking of driving there and filling RV. I understand they could be a bit behind on shipping orders due to heavy demand and the pandemic.
Thanks for the video. Good points here. Just an FYI, you can't flush tissues unless they are labeled as flushable. Which is rare. If you flush tissues you're going to have a clog or some other kind of plumbing problem.
All the more reason for folk to buy TP instead of tissues, it is cheaper, and serves the same purpose. If you don't like the look of a TP roll, just sew a little bag for it, with a slit in the side or use a round container to hide it.

Last year we spent $300 to unclog our sewer line just near the street because one of our neighbors uses flushable wipes 😠. So don’t flush them even if they say flushable !
@@shellp888 Where I live the sewer treatment plants are complaining that even the treatment plants are having problems due to people flushing baby wipes. And, if people use TP that is not made for use in RV toilets it will block their tanks too. If it doesn't belong in a toilet don't put it there, I guess some folk just don't seem to understand that. One would think such knowledge would be basic common sense, but apparently, it isn't. I am becoming more and more of a recluse...LOL!

Many years ago, I developed a food storage and rotation system. Fortunately, I had plenty of everything when Covid hit, but some items like wipes and toilet paper did begin to dwindle, so I adjusted and am adding more of the items I use most often. Good video, thanks!

Clorox was also hard to find for a while. Everything you mentioned was also out in our area, Houston, TX. Luckily, I prep and when I saw C-19 jump the China border I knew it was only time before it reached here. For people who take prescription medicine ask your Doctor to write for three months supply. Most insurance companies will fill 90 day supply on maintenance medicine. Antidepressants and pain meds are usually limited to 30 day supplies
Also if you pay cash you can get your Rx filled for a year. My blood pressure meds were 1/2 the cost if I filled them for the year at Costco and did not file my insurance. My doctor had no problem writing that script when he ran the numbers himself.
I told my doctor I needed refills for my thyroid medication for a full year!!! 90 days is nothing if your life depends on the medication, scary how everything is right now!
Im up in upstate ny and things are finally back on the shelves they even have tons of hand sanitizer and masks but i have yet to find disinfectant wipe and got the last lysol spray once until just recently and lucky at dollar tree with both yes the sizes smaller but i got the limit of 4 of both to stock up for winter. I think it will get crazy again this fall and winter so stocking up now. Even getting what i need for my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas yes it sounds crazy but dont want to be searching the ends of the earth for cranberry sauce come November.

I have a turkey and a Christmas ham and cans and boxes of side items we like on holidays. If nothing else we will have a nice family meal with the things we are accustomed to having.
I been doing that too. As for thanksgiving, as soon as you find cranberry sauce, get it, dried cranberries are also good for thanksgiving, you can use it in stuffing, salads , quick breads, desserts, ect.

I honest think a plastic swimming pool to catch water and put bleach in it. And gatorade powder for dehydration.
The only problem is open pools are mosquitoe breading grounds. Covered rain barrels deals with that.

I have seen peanut butter powder in the bins at Winco, but I have never used it.
I froze milk in pint size jars. When you frst put it on the freezer cover the jar with a cloth and rubber band until it is frozen then put a lid on the jar. The milk expands when it freezes.
I lucked up and found 2 70% bottles of alcohol. Now I can hold on to my one bottle of 90%
Go buy some Everclear. That is 95% ethyl alcohol so you can use it for all purposes, including drinking.

Exactly. I was making a list today of the things that went missing for months back in March. That was mainly canned goods, toilet paper and Paper towels, and meat. Still can’t get disinfectant spray or wipes where I am. Great video. I’m late at prepping but I sure figured out I best get that stuff that went missing.

I am having trouble finding canned tomatoes here in the deep south as well. Today I got 8 large cans of crushed and several cans of whole to add to what I already have. I have 260 rolls of TP in the stockpile! My family and I have sat down on several occasions discussing our stockpile list and are preparing a 3-6 month supply of EVERYTHING we use on a normal basis. We have three upright freezers packed with meat and vegetables. We have huge amounts of canned foods, dry beans, rice, flour, sugar, yeast, and basically everything we use. We are the 12th highest cases in the country. Very, very bad here. I am going to prepare for the future as much as possible.

@@donkemp8151 We have a standby generator that runs on natural gas. It has our home up and running in 8 seconds after a power outage. We have a portable generator at our warehouse to plug up two freezers over there.

I have found that where I live there is a canning lid and canning jar shortage! I have maybe one pint jar not filled and a canner load of quart jars left to fill. That's it! I am already buying my lids for next year. I am also buying my canning spices for next year now as well!

This is an excellent video, covering a lot of ground. One serious mistake about water: one can survive on 1 gallon a day if he doesn't cook doesn't wash himself AT ALL. The absolute minimum amount is 3 gallons a day. It is rather impractical to store bottled water for an emergency. The smallest usable container is Aqua-Tainer (7 gallon).

Yep I still cannot find clox wipes,even Walmart does not have wipes nand tp still wipe out.
I have only seen the store brand wipes, and those are super limited here. This is my last pack of Clorox from my stash. 😉

It's not all about getting full either. Getting nutrients is the most important thing of all. I've been fasting & training my body to only eat a few times a day very small amount of food. However I'm stocking up on Vitamins and Protein Powders. We will need these things more than we actually will need food. With everything that's going to hit soon you aren't going to be able to be going out tending to a garden either.
Just came from Costco this afternoon. No TP, and paper towels were flying off the shelves. Have people gone through their stash already?

I had trouble getting cleaners. So I tried to get plastic spray bottles to make my own solution and apparently everybody else bought them also.
I forgot, one last comment, Get seeds that you can keep sealed well in the freezer, and they will last longer. Emergency Preparedness a store that sells emergency supplies, used to sell #10 cans of seeds that reproduce their own seeds, with like 16 large packets in them, enough to sow a football field. Growing your own food will be maybe a real necessity, and if you grow more than you can use, you can bless others.
I use so little salt because I use lots of other types of spices. The 26 oz round box of salt in my cabinet has a date of 10/09 on it. A word of caution, if you have to use tissues, paper towels, etc. instead of toilet paper, do NOT flush them. Toilet paper is designed to break down in your sewer pipes. The other paper products are not and can clog your toilet system.
Exactly... plus... those baby wipes that say "FLUSHABLE"... DO NOT BELIEVE IT. They wreck havoc with both private septic systems AND municipal systems.
You should eat salt in sufficient quantities or you might end up developing a thyroid problem. Iodized salt is a necessity.

I had everything. I walked in the store to get one item when SHTF, took one look at the lines and left.
Pasta Honey spices like Tumeric Garlic Salt Cinnamon etc and Sugar . If you have room and yeah you can make room for it is a chest freezer or upright freezer . With that is a 3500 watt generator and at least 50 gallons of fuel . If you can afford it buy some longterm storage gas in those 5 gallon cans , it is ethanol free and will last 25 years unopened and over 2 opened . 68 dollars each for five gallons but when you have to have some fuel it's worth it .
I would love to see a video of the entire process of canning meat , maybe you could do a how to video on that . I am looking at a decent piece of land and I want it to provide most every thing I or we may need in the way of food . Thanks for your informative video , take care !
Be the "grey man" (person). If soup lines form or everyone goes to the food bank - get in line. If they require wearing the masks, find some thin opaque material to make your own so it will look like you're complying but can still breathe. If you're not losing weight like the rest of the area, wear clothes a size or two too big to "blend in". The goal is to be as unnoticable as possible and slip under (their) radar.

The closest thing to an H1N1 is HEPA filters - like for vacuum cleaner bags or HVAC filters. Just slip it between the layers of a bandana.

Ohio: cooking oil, yeast, flour, tolietries, cleaning products. Anything pasta or tomato related also gone. Meat also gone and now back to the tune of $50 for 4 small steaks. Find any spot in your house and stock up. I have no basement or attic and garage is way to hot in summer and way to cold in winter so all my preps are in the house. I just put 12 cases of bottled water behind my couch (I have more other places but that is my newest spot.) Moved it out a bit. Everything hidden but easy to access. Same for a hutch in a corner. Angled it and piled up stuff behind it. Get creative and stay home and use your preps. 😃
Emilia, a board across preps behind couch becomes a sofa table. You can put cover on or not.
Under bed is also good if you are strapped for space. Great job already!

I'm just west of cleveland and i've not had much trouble finding all of the items you mentioned. cooking oil, about $2.50 per quart; yeast, $4 for 4 ounces of active dry; flour, pillsbury is $2.50 for 5 pounds; plenty of tomato products on the shelf, less than 20% higher than normal, clorox wipes are not on the shelf here or anywhere else; most cleaning products are still here. The exact same 3-ply masks i bought at my local grocery was 2x the price at home depo
SuperSaltydog77 : I’m several hours south. Was out tonight at 3 stores. No cleaners to be found. Luckily I have vinegar and dawn on hand. As well as bleach (not together). Wanted tub cleaner and microban. I found flour for nearly $8 for 5 lb. Got a jug of oil. No yeast still. Found masks at sams and aldis. Luckily I have a nice stash of food on hand. Just never expected flour and yeast to go so quick.
Our store shelves were empty of childrens medicines as well as adult Advil/Tylenol etc.. You mentioned salt, but a different kind of salt is one of my "go-to's". Epsome salts. It's a safe bet to stock up on anything the household uses that is non-perishable, including auto parts/fluids.
I found out that you have to be at Walmart right when they open in the mornings, for Clorox wipes.
That's not necessarily true, I'm a Wal-Mart cashier. Save money and use old fashioned cleaning supplies...wipes won't save you from this fake pandemic.,your govt is the real threat.
You can easily use diluted bleach water as a cleaner, or a steam cleaner just uses water or vinegar water. A few different options :)
Still enough stuff in the shops in The Netherlands. The only shortage we had in the first Lockdown was toiletpaper and paracetamol.
But prices of everything have gone up 10 %.

Buying facial tissues in cardboard boxes is a complete waste of money when TP does the same thing for a lot less. If you want to save on TP, buy a bidet, or you can DIY one from an empty dishwashing soap bottle. Leave a little soap in the bottom of the bottle and fill with warm water. Voila! Learn to do without paper towels, another waste of money, sponges or clean rags can be used instead. If you want to be a bit more fancy, fill a pretty basket with cheap washclothes and keep it on your kitchen counter to use instead of paper towels. When I was a child we had cloth hankies and used cut up rags if we had a cold often made from an old sheet.
Make your own soap and cleaners, easy to do, and many instructions on UA-cam. One does not need to consume meat, I haven't eaten it for more than sixty-five years. Most Americans have far too much animal fat and protein in their diets. Protein of high biological value can be found in veggies and by combining rice and beans. I love home made soups, cheap to make from Organic veggies grown in my garden, nutritious and a good way to increase one's water intake. I love 'Better than Boullion,' to flavour soups. And, I buy Salt Free Veg Seasoning, like Mrs. Dash to cut down on salt intake. They sell it at my local Grocery Outlet. A one pound container for $5.99. Similar at Walmart is almost $25.00 for the same size! I bought six of them for my storage pantry.
I adore pickled beets, so bought them and almost all of my storage items from Grocery Outlet, prices are always half if not, less than half of the prices in conventional grocery stores. They sell Organic, Keto and other items for special diets. The foods are surplus from regular grocery stores, and are not expired dates. Some items my say, "Best Before Date" I bought four cans of decaffinated coffee 2.5 lb size cans for .96cents a can. Can't beat that! And, no need to use coupons, because they don 't accept them. As I live on Social Security, I have to be very frugal.
If you don't make your own bread, or have a breadmaker, you can buy bread and other baked goods from Bakery Discount stores for a fraction of the cost regular grocery stores sell it for.
I have more than enough food and supplies to last one to two years, probably more if I ration it carefully. That also includes enough to help my grown daughter and family if necessary. I have camping equipment, generators, extra fuel and petrol stored in metal cans with fuel stabilizer. Prescription eye wear with spares, first aid items, cough drops etc. Sewing machnes that are electric as well as a treadle, materials and supplies, nails, screws, hinges, and hand tools as well as electric incase I need them. I have bought spare oil and oil filters for my car and RV, as well as fluids and wiper blades. I own an electric bike as well as two others, that have been tuned up. It would be a good idea to buy tire repair kits. I started with the basics and refined as I went along. Now, I just look for gaps in my food storage. I have all the toiletries and feminine items I need as well as clothes, and shoes enough to last this lifetime and the next. 'How To' books will help add to my skills if the Internet goes down, because the libraries are still closed. I believe in being resilient and prepared to the best of my ability. Self-protection has not been over looked.
My animals are well provided for. I have enough Timothy hay to last my rescued rabbits for several months.
I have a small dehydrator and buy veggies and fruit from market stalls to dry at home. I also like Winco's dry products that are in their bins. Prices are great, because you are not paying for packaging. You can save containers from foods precviously bought, and refill them for storage. They even look attractive on the shelf. Picking wild blackberries to freeze or make pies and crumbles with saves money. My favourite prepper item is my Berkey water purifier, I have bottles of water stored and have started using empty plastic cat litter bottles to store water that I plan to use for tasks other than drinking. Bottles are free, and it costs nothing to fill and store them.
If I can do all this on minimal income, anyone can. All it takes is a little planning and making the effort to focus on goals as funds and being creative allows. My daughter used to make fun of me for having items for my little grandchild on hand, but there has not been a peep out of her lately. I have prepared for future birthdays and Christmases. Santa's Workshop will be opening in a week of two. Always better to shop in advance, rather than pay full price in time of need. For those with children, finding other parents interested in sharing or passing on children's clothes can be benefitial. Being prepared brings a feeling of peace, so I suggest it to everyone, because none of us know what the future may bring. We can only hope for the best, and prepare for the worst!
I'm truly happy that you are so prepared, but I think this video is for those who are not, and the advice will serve that demographic well.

S Jordan : I still make hankies. Was able to buy some loose woven cotton material at our Princess Auto store and each one makes 4 lady’s size. So when I’m watching telly at night (u-tube, of course), I hand stitch lace around the edges. Bought the lace cheap. If I’ve got a cold though, I am still using flannelette diapers I bought back in the 70’s just for the purpose. No! They were never used as diapers but a nice soft cotton so it doesn’t make my face all red and sore. Kleenex is wood, after all.
@@amieinnovascotia3237 Makes sense to me. I have lots of pretty hankies from when I was a child and young person. Always took a clean hankie with me to school, or anywhere else for that matter. Some of the lace ones are really pretty, little works of art. I also like drinking tea from bone china cups, they are little works or ar too, and make the tea taste better. Can't understand those who drink out of styrofoam!

Mine and my friend’s husband’s maintaining supplies of food and comfort items has always been the source of much amusement. No one is laughing now.
There are no shortages here right now but I expect that is due to the fact that we (most of the world) is still operating on last year’s harvests. We all might be a bit hungrier come this time next year.
At this point, I am fine to feed family (nieces -have no kids myself) and some friends for about two years but we won’t have to worry about dieting. Won’t be that much.
It probably wouldn’t hurt for people in rural areas to pick up spare parts for things like water pumps. There is still a well here with plentiful water and I just need to connect that new pump to make it operational even though I expect to not need it.
My old wood furnace and new wood burning kitchen stove are ready to go with a four year supply of very dry wood cut and split.
I have a cat door into the sunporch for the feral cats and they use it. I put an electric blanket (an older one without auto shut-off) turned on high on the sofa for them and an electric fireplace for the really cold nights. And a huge supply of cat food and treats. So don’t forget the wildlife.
These videos are great resources especially for the younger women. And this one reminded me of items I never thought of.
I'm in Florida and yeast has been impossible to find since the pandemic hit.
I recommend that everyone have some local sourced honey. It doesn't go bad and it has so many benefits from being edible to first aid. It can help with allergies too. Also, baking soda so many good uses. Soap, lotion or whatever you use for dry skin. Last thing, flavoring for water, plain water can get boring, so I got Crystal Light packets. Also, sometimes I mix juice into the water just to give it a little flavor. Good video, thanks.

If you are a canner, buy whatever lids you see. In my area in the midwest, none of the stores have them. A few people are trying to sell a box of 12 on facebook marketplace for $10/box... speaking of price gouging!!

WM is basically out; the one pack at $14+ is basically a placeholder. At that price you might as well buy a box of jars with lids as they are cheaper per dozen.

It will be one of the hottest weekends of the summer, but I am helping out another family, and they need supplies more than we do. Otherwise, I would settle in here at home with a half-frozen bottle of water and wait for evening or a break in the weather. On the upside, I'll get fresh veggies and mushrooms for the dehydrator.

Yoders Bacon in a can is pretty good but now its $30. a can on Amazon, last I looked it was unavailable.

I was shocked the baby wipes went out really quick and you couldn't get them. I have a baby and a young child who is potty training so I need wipes. Thankfully I always keep a nice stock on hand. But I had friends who didn't have any. I was grateful that I was able to share a little bit.
