Have used my Makita 18v grinder regularly and hard for about 10 years now. Performs like new. Took a few uses to run in the bearings and gears, then it did everything that has ever been asked of it and more. Would not hesitate to buy another one tomorrow if required. Also rate the Makita 18v die grinder very highly.

Pro tip, the cheapo tools often lack internal lubrication. You can often get a LOT better performance out of them by adding some (you do not need much) molybdenum grease.

Got several Makita tools bought the fakita grinder for cutting rebar for under 30 pound UK and use 1mm cutting blades. Must say I'm impressed. Had it around 6 months, let the disc do the cutting and don't over load it and use it with a genuine battery. Reason I bought the fake was price difference was substantial in the UK and it doesn't get heavy use.
I bought a makita drill when I was 18 in 1988. Still my primary drill today. Only needed 3 or 4 sets of brushes in that time.
Very useful and instructive video. I have a cheapo version which has lasted 20 hrs before the switch has jammed. So I now have to dismantle it to find out why. Your video has shown me how to do it. Many thanks.

Thanks for an honest review.. seen a few pro Makita YT videos and they do their darndest to rubbish this copy. Yes it does stall quicker but often they try hard with the this than the Makita.. wonder why? LOL.. I still say this is a DIYers tool and cheaper to buy outright than hire for a few days. I have bought brands (expensive) and not used any of them to their potential. This is right up my street. Thanks for the review.. I ordered one (£28 with no battery) and will sell one of my mains versions which are not usually convenient for outdoor work.👍👍

In the USA, the Makita sells for $99 and the Chinese knockoff is $63. The blade guard is superior in the Makita. The Makita gets here in 2 days from Amazon, or I pick it up today at Home Depot. The knockoff gets here in 3-1/2 weeks from Guangzhou. If a Makita breaks I can return it here at no cost (30 days Amazon, 6 months HD. Beyond that, it’s got a factory 3 year warranty. Guangzhou model? Who knows...
I agree that in the states it would not be worth it. But in many parts of the world the makita gear is way more expensive so it may be tempting to some. Some of the knock offs are much better value, i.e, the impact driver and wrench, but some are a waste of time such as the circ saw which is about the same price as a Makita in the states.
Although if I had compared it to the variable speed makita, seeing as the knock off does have 3 speeds, then they go for $165USD on Amazon at the moment amzn.to/3gIiIb5 So that would make it better value...?
Here in Finland, the real makita cost little over 209€ so that's about 250dollars. I got my "fake makita" for 30€ shipped. Definetly would buy 7 of these against the 1 real makita
here in australia the fake one cost 60AUD, AU warehouse take 1 week to ship probably lower for ppl in east. and real thing cost 319$ retail not on sale.
In germany the fake one cost 30€ the real makit around 150€ and my fake one was bought in the 20.12.2020 and arived on the 23.12.2020 and that so short near christmas where amazon cant hold thier targeted arival times and also im qiet impressed what they can deliver for 30 € it works and cuts like an old crapy corded angelgrinder let see how long it hold up but then i only wasted 30 € so not to bad
see if i was working with the tool it's makita brand for sure, warranty, repairable, spare parts available etc.
but as a homeowner , i do have some makita brand tools that i use more often, this copy would be perfect to own and use once or twice a year.
I bought one recently but haven't used it yet because when I was fitting a cutting disk I noticed it made a grinding sound when turning the wheel manually. I have queried the seller about this because I didn't want to use it and cause damage. Does yours make a grinding noise when turning manually?
Good point there at the end about not being anything to copy if no one buys the original, as to who pays for the development etc. And me personally would definitely pay more getting the Makita than the copy but it's certainly better copies than before.
Try to use 6amp battery vs 4 amp on the original it seems that will compensate the difference?
I just bought the 125mm one for £59 UK. The problem i have is the charger for the rip off is just a plug in low current thing. I have a Makita charger but the rip off batteries will not fit in. They do not have the yellow multi plug in the centre.
Having these knock off tools and knock off aftermarket batteries could work for Makita, while you're broke (as i am now) and you buy the knock of tools and batteries, you use them, you're work load increases and you save up to buy the Makita stuff as you feel you need the reliability, you're invested in the brand as you have the batteries and chargers so you buy that brand (Makita, they are the one brand that has a lot of knock off stuff available, all other brands have very little) when you can afford to.
Have recently purchased a 4 tool set with 2 x 5ah batteries and charger, (Drill 1/4" impact driver drill, 125mm angle grinder and rotary impact hammer drill) and received another 5ah battery by redemption for under 1k$ Australian then purchased another 4 6am batteries for $165 each both purchases on Afterpay, so ... no longer does poor man pays twice, but poor man pays in 4 easy installments.
i got my fakita grinder for €26 total, very similar to yours but the button panel is different a bit.

I woke up this morning in Australia, to read a story concerning the Chinese government complaining about Australia breaching international laws, by extending visas for Hong Kong students in Australia, due to the political unrest and new Chinese imposed laws in Hong Kong. Then I watched this video regarding a product made by yet another Chinese company, with no regard to intellectual property nor international copyright laws. China does not play by the rules and too many governments around they world turn a blind eye to the problem. The hypocrisy by the Chinese government concerning international laws, is what they call, breathtaking. One rule for them and another for the rest of the world. I'm very happy to pay extra for the real thing and better quality, while avoiding the support for Chinese copies and those companies internationally, that profit from selling the copies. Just my opinion. Thanks for another interesting video.

I managed to get one in Germany for just 57 EUR INCLUDING the battery pack and a charger. So far so good.
I also have orginal Maktia equipment, but I am getting disappointed sometimes at the quality. I spend 35EUR for spares for a Drill (Brushes, Brush holder and ball bearing holder (did get melted). For the same price I would get a new copy version...

@@jonasv368 Yes still working well. Positively surprised about the quality. But even there are different makes of copy out there. Mine had even a cutout where the original makita name plate is supposed to be (empty recess).
Ohhh, forgot, the charger gave up on me. Battery is still good, but cannot be charged in original charger (I used my Model RC charger for it)

Are you any closer to part 2 of your 40v impact review yet? Surely you've managed to get hold of a battery by now. 40v fully available here in the UK now but literally not a single review as yet
I was all ready to get the 40v gear at launch on July 1st here... then at the last minute they pulled the plug. There is a few tools kicking around here, but not enough for public release yet, just demos and the like. Some stuff is now to be released on August 1st, whilst the remaining items are to be released on September 1st... but who knows. Covid has stuffed things up a bit. Hopefully I will get some gear at the beginning of August.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Active Energy battery (for Parkside, Ferrox, etc) has a dual 20v/40v model. Very interesting, man. I got one battery myself. It will be 5AH with a 20v-tool and will work as 2.5AH with a 40v-tool

you are also forgetting about the Star protection that Makita has to stop any over discharge on the battery
the battery will protect itself from over discharge in tools that don't have star protection
The real test would be running the other grinder for 2-5 years and then doing a comparison, my bet is you will get the exact same performance from the Makita. Most new tools are going to work for at least the first 5 minutes- the different grease profile, battery stress etc will not have an immediate impact but there is a reason one of those tools is heavily used in industry and the other isn't
I did mention such things in the video several times. My guess is in 5 years time, one of those grinders would have been long recycled.
I went for a job at Makia UK in Telford, Now i must say that ive worked at many Japanse factories which have all been run tip top however, It was a joke, Induction day you had to complete a "screwdown" test, They wanted us to train on the older model shells and NOT what we would be doing when we got to the shop floor! The induction guy stated that they "used" to make and balance there own armatures but that now they imported them from the "far east". Problem is when you contract out work quality slips a bit and it is then at risk of being copied! KP P, I think if the tool has only cost say $/£40 And it lasts 4/5 years then it has only cost you $/£10 per year! Then get another! Genuine Makita (NOT WORTH IT ANY MORE)
Maybe if you just want for round the house and stuff all use it and dont want to spend the bucks. Might do the trick.

In Australia the Makita cost about $320 and the Banggood version about $70 shipped to your door.
In Estonia we can get it to doorstep about 150€. I dont get it why it is so expensive on big market like yours? that is closer to china than estonia and europe.

There are difference , real Makita uses wrought steel gears , knockoffs use cheaper powder metal gears
There is alway the price you pay for that brand tag , it also covers warranty .

I started to upgrade to Makita tools from Craftsman. I never buy retail price and always on the lookout for deals that comes at least 3 times a year in Home Depot or buy good condition pre owned from bored weekend garage wanna be mechanics.

Do the chinkita combi drill. I've got one for the crack and its lasted way longer with the abuse I've given to it at work (commercial/ Industrial electrian) cost £50 or £60 when the next genuine heavy duty combi (DHP458) now costs £100 to buy

Thanks for the great video. I also have one genuine Makita and have just bought a 'Fakita' 115mm grinder to save me constantly changing between cut and flap wheels . 115mm is a common size in the UK, we don't see many 125mm models. I've done the external visual comparisons and spotted only a few differences, so interested to see you show the internals. The missing battery monitoring terminal was one of my concerns, thinking it may be detrimental to the battery. I'm reassured by seeing you demonstrate that the fake also stops when voltages drop. On my machine I've found the genuine tool has a far better spindle brake than the fake.

Changing cutting to grinding discs, finding the racket/spanner...
Less hassle to use a second grinder with dedicated flap disc for basic clean up.
I also, can’t justify 5x the cost for the real Makita model - for convenience.
Instead of just using the tool to review, you should buy the tool that measure rpm for the grinder and the tool that meassure torque for the impact wrench so that we all know the real performance of these banggood tools vs makita

I use them to cut tile. Just add the tile blade and it's much better than the stone/tile saws bc it's easier to maneuver on the tile. Maybe a bit less safe, but definitely gets the job done faster.
And I came here to check the noise on your makita grinder. I just got one from Ebay and it sounds weird, not smooth. But sounds like you makita also does that noise. Not 100% yet if this is just how it is or if this is a defective tool.

When it's off and I manually turn the blade, it clicks. idk what this is.
That's normal. It is because it is brushless. The clicking is the motor jumping from magnet to magnet. All brushless tools do this.

I know this video is 2 years old. But couple of things re the electronics. The extra wires going to the motor in the real Makita are sensors. They tell the controller exactly where the motor is, the rpms etc. Where as the knockoff is just guessing. This is why the knockoff fails in the stall tests. Once drops too much RPM it loses sync and shuts down. As for some of the other things i noticed. Is on the knockoff the wires from the battery go directly into the controller. And the switch is just telling the controller if its on or not. Where as on the real one. The battery positive wire actually goes via the switch as well. This means (unless the contacts in the switch have melted together) Off means no power. Other than the smaller pilot wire that also taps off to give the controller a constant feed. So you are not just relying on the controllers electronics to keep it off.
I would also be rather suspicious of the knockoff over discharging the batteries. Makita batteries have very little in terms of low voltage cut off. And rely on the tools to do this. In the case of tools that lack the 3rd pin. This is just done purely voltage wise on the tool. Works fine for lower draw tools. For tools which do have the 3rd pin. The battery tells the tool 'HEY THATS ENOUGH' and it is then up to the tool itself turn off. This allows in the case of a higher draw grinder. The battery to account for voltage drop with load. Where as on the simpler tools it will just see its reached voltage level and cut off. Regardless of if the battery is actually dead. Or just dropped down due to higher load. (might also be some of the cause of the stalls as well)
Pedal switch is for a reason - if you have an emergency, just loosing control of the tool will turn it off. With slide switch, you will get your hand cut off first. The discomfort is worth the security.
Always preference
Variable speed on the chinkita is nice for blending and finishing welds. Grease looks like generic garbage dough
you did a mistake, the are angle grinders not a impact drivers "15:30 min"
3 leds can be showing on both batteries but that doesn't mean that both batteries are holding the same charge. One may have only just moved from 4 to 3 leds while the other may only be seconds away from turning to 2 leds.
....or another way of looking at it. If each of the 4 LEDs represents 25% then 3 lit LEDs could equal as much as 75% or as little as 51%. i.e. 1% more would move the 75% into registering 4 LEDs while 1% less would move the 51% into registering only 2 LEDs.
Came here to say the same thing. Seems odd that, after all the effort he put into comparing other aspects, he didn't just charge both batteries fully, before doing the endurance test.
About 2 of 3 led used in indicator - it’s about electronics manufactoring process. It’s chipper to use the same part (3 LED module) twice and use only 2 of 3 light points, then use two different parts. Cheers! :) 21:15
Is 5 inch common over there? 4 and a half (115mm) is by far the most common here in the uk. Some of the really old boys call them grinderettes as they reserve the word grinder for the 7 or 9 inch.
In Germany 125 mm is mostly used today, at least for commercial purpose. You still get 115 mm here, but it's more for the DIY segment. You also get 150 and 180 mm here (both are rare), but the most common big ones are 230 mm.
Sure you can use 115 on a 125 grinder? As the spindle size must be the same?

Ah great, i bought mine for 55 euro in the Nederlands Europa, but there was no lube crease in the head, so did it my self.

In Australia you use metric and imperial both?
He's in new Zealand. And the majority people under 80 use metric, unless your a pipefitter or a mechanic that works on American cars.
In Australia, everything is nominally in metric...
...but most of our plumbing and electrical parts and fittings are actually manufctured in the original imperial sizes (otherwise nothing would fit together) and then labelled with a nominal metric size. Although is is weird looking for 1/2" copper water pipe and fittings, but seeing the items labelled on the shelf as '15mm' even though the manufacturers printing down the length of the pipe clearly says 1/2".
Things like welding consumables are also still made in the original imperial sizes (MMAW electrodes, TIG tungstens, oxy/fuel tips and hose fittings, GMAW contact tips and drive rolls) and marked with the closest size in mm (or sold as mm size, but still marked inch size), unless (usually) they were originally designed and manufactured by a European company (like shielding gas input fittings, parts for TIG and GMAW torches).
yes we kinda use both. but length wise it is metric mm or m. but socket/screw size we often end up with imperial for some reason. i hate that but got used to it.

And I use imperial tools as often as metric.
My 70 y/o home is ofcourse all imperial. So bloody stupid,, a piece of 12mm wood is generally 1/2" Waterpipe is still made in imperial but most copper and pvc is not.
And in my industry a wheel has 5x114.3, 5x108 [worse just under] or 120.65.
And yes,, that is 4.5, 4.25 and 4.75" in reality. Though then you have 5x120, just to confuse things and you can alternate the two. Which will be a problem.
Then tyres,,, made in metric widths but imperial diameters,, eg 205mm x70 aspect x14"
So the whole bloody world is a mish mash.
So I’ve got one of those knock off Makita grinder’s at work pretty awesome up till today the drive mechanism I guess they put it on with Loctite LOL let loose so I JB welded it sit long it lasts this time

Screwfix offering the Makita with 2 × 5amp batteries +charger for 250£ Would it work consistently with no stop using the 2 batteries ? or would it destroy it ? .
There’s probably no real danger Makita will go out of business. A huge percentage of the tools they sell would be sold to companies on purchase orders. And a large mining company for example is paying a lot for its humans and is probably not interested in tools with questionable reliability. It’s just not worth it to them. Imagine saying to the boss sorry boss you’re losing $100,000 an hour because I couldn’t get this machine working. The boss asks why. Because I used a $50 angle grinder from eBay it’s almost as good as Makita it looks the same. The blade was a little bit wobbly but was feeling lucky today. If you are using something like this for work it’s probably because you haven’t really thought about the consequences if there was an accident and you had to write a report or make an insurance claim. Could be some sticky questions.
i don't think any reasonable person would be expecting to be supplied on an oil rig, for example, with one of these.. this is DIY market like me that a Makita would be a waste of its longevity. I do have some branded stuff an well underused.

"Makitas exclusive Automatic Speed Change Technology automatically adjusts speed and torque during operation for optimal performance" that is why Makita is more powerful, software makes a difference in power control/sensing, not a motor power, winch is the same on both machines 😉 Does anybody know Makitas output torque or motor power? if gear ratio is 1:4 than motor RPM is 40.000 at no load!

Would be great if you placed the components on a weighing scale rather than just guesstimating which was heavier.

I don't think the value here is as good as the other knockoffs. The geniuine Makita grinder is often on sale here in Europe for about €100-120, I am not spending €55 for the knockoff then, the €55 is also without sales tax.
€100-120 is about AUD $200-240, but Banggood sells the knockoffs for $65-90 (€33-45)...

Some of these cheap copy electrical tools have a design life of less than an hour in total of work. Commonly less than ten hours. For some people that might be two years' worth of very intermittent work.

Bare 18v brushless grinder here in UK is £149. So don't know how decent that is compared to other countries but I buy Makita here as their service is second to none.
the build quality from makita is a lot better you can even see the difrents the fake 1 looks like cheap plastic to me

The fake makita using the same motor as the original makita...i don't believe any much different in the product capability except the price is way much cheaper for the fake one...i would rather be fake than original
Interesting stuff, are these copies worth it, yes and no. If you going to use it at home occasionally, maybe, just be mindful that as far as I could see there is only a 30 day warranty on the cheap one, you have to call to see if it falls into the 180 day warranty so chances are it wont, then your probably going to have to pay to ship it back. The Makita in the UK looks to be around £100 more expensive so you could buy three, but if all you do is cut a bit of steel tube and flap disc it once in a while do you really need three, then if you use it for work like I do, you dont want to wait 8-10 days shipping and the potential of even longer if it goes tits up. You get a years warranty on the Makita and most decent toolshops with swap it out without much hassle same day if they've got it in stock. So worth a punt for light use if your willing to risk losing £40 but I think I'll stick with the genuine one for work.
1. Fakita will die because of some stupid weak point, as chinese copies usually do.
2. You did not check wire in Fakita engine - 100% copper or aluminium covered by copper
3. Makita have speed feedback so controller can push more torque if required.
