    Another great video, if nothing else you've done well by keeping these in circulation and not in a landfill somewhere

    I think that's a good result. You had the fun part of unboxing, testing and playing a load of gadgets and while you didn't make that much profit, you got more practice and experience. Buying old tech is a lottery but it's a great feeling when you get a good result like the Acorn and Firefox game. Also, £30 for the Zipstick, I'm sure I bought mine for a tenner as a kid! Thanks for the video.

      Thanks Matthew, I agree. It's not about the money it's about the experience. I enjoy owning the things once unatainable to me, and get satisfaction from a repair. It was more of an exercise/illustration of the realities than anything else. I'd usually have repaired both PS1s for example. Normally I don't object to spending £20 to save a £10 item. I found it interesting that the older stuff made the most money. Anyhow thanks so much for your comments and continued support to the channel. It really does make a huge difference. Thank you

    I had 2 of those 6 button pads around the same time I got my mega cd 2 back in the day, can't remember If hey came with the system, but they were ideal for Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2. Great videos pal, I forgot to comment on the last one, I love these videos, keep them coming buddy!

    Great video and it's always nice to get a little something back for all the hard work. Still, its's a great feeling when you can breath a little life into something that's been left idle for 20+ years.

      @RetroTechRepair  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, you said it. It's really a hobby and to be honest, this video was a little bit of an experiment. Usually I don't object to spending £20 to save something worth £10 and feel a little bad not completely repairing some of the stuff here. You are correct that the joy comes from owing and experiencing something you could only ever have dreamed of when new and from keeping it out of landfill and giving it a future.

    Really glad you made this video, I wondered what happened to all the items. For me personally, it was nice to get a close look at a few things I'm less familiar with. Keep up the excellent work, hoping now you've splashed out on the editting software we'll see even more content! Cheers

      Thanks Skyway. Glad that you enjoyed the wheeler dealers style follow-up. The move to final cut Pro from Adobe elements speeds things up a bit but it generally takes a full week of of my spare time to make a video, that's if I don't have to pause for parts and the repair is straightforward. My skills are improving though which is rewarding. Hope you are well. Thanks as always for your continued support and encouragement.

    One of the reasons they changed the original playstation was because the laser assembly was temperamental and was terrible for breaking in one way or another, and the 6 button megadrive controller was brought out because of all the complaints over having to hit start to switch between punch and kick in street fighter but whether yours is from the mega cd or not i dont know as I've not got hold of one yet. Good video

      LOL... it has, I have quite a large collection of DVDs, I love the pictures. All the action shots and all the information on them. Some describe a plot (although the stories are short) and some even list a whole load of other successful boxes the actors had appeared on, but I often wondered what the shiny round thing inside was for. I didn't realise they were removable. So I took all the round things out and threw them away. Now my DVD collection weighs a fraction of what it did before. Do you know though why they bother putting those things in if you can just remove them? Anyway thanks for the tip.
      Seriously though. Thanks for this and your other comments. Really appreciate it.

    Buying by the pound LMAO :D
    From what I remember the six button Megadrive controller was a later controller that came out because the SNES had a six button at launch.

    Oh my, that is a lot of repairs RTR. Very enjoyable to watch though. ;) Did you change the cables on the xbox 360 drive first? (ignoring the inner engineer and going for the simplest explanation first). It looks like its difficult to make a profit on old spares or repair kit, once you factor in the hours of work repairing, packaging, posting etc. That said, I have a ton of keyboards to repair now, so will find out myself also.

    • @RetroTechRepair
      @RetroTechRepair  3 роки тому

      Hi Wee, Glad you enjoyed the video... the mystery of the xbox 360 will all be unveiled in another video... eventually. You are correct that there was no real profit here, but I thought it a fun exercise. The joy is in owning (briefly), experiencing and enjoying this retro tech. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your vids. Trailer looks good VSS-30? I had one of those and a Casio CS01 but both worked so no "repair" video and since I can't play them no video. I wish I still had them they have doubled in price in the last year.

    • @WeeInnovate-uk

      @@RetroTechRepair thanks RTR. If you mean the latest intro sequence, (sorry for the detailed answer) theres a brief shot of a yamaha pss a50 being repaired (quite a few of these DOA) and a yamaha sy 35 open. The other keyboards featured are a casio sk60, sk-1, mt-31 & mt-40, a casio rapman, yamaha mk-100 and yamaha mp-1 (music printer). The music was a casio mt-220 & sa35, yamaha a50 & mk100. Do have a vss-30 also, for another video.

      I think that's the video, I saw a sampling keyboard. I did by a VSS30 but it worked right out of the box so since i can't Play anything I didn't really have a video. If I do another keyboard perhaps I'll send it your way after.

    • @WeeInnovate-uk
      @WeeInnovate-uk 3 роки тому

      @@RetroTechRepair Yes, for sure, if u have keyboard repairs, give me a shout. I can’t play either, I just puddle about, hit what sounds good and its amazing what you can produce with 80s keyboards and a simple daw, like cakewalk. U should consider trying again, just for fun. FYI, I plan to do a sampler comparison at some point - casio sk-1, 5, 60, 200, yamaha vss 30 & 200 - ignoring the hype, theres pros and cons of each. Still some bargains to be had on ebay too, and you’re well accustomed to ebay. I usually have best luck making offers rather than auctions, how about you?. ;)

    • @RetroTechRepair

      Thanks Dan, there has been a bit of discussion around the pad, but I think its basically what you said, some games could utilise more buttons. Also some suggestion that the SNES had 6 buttons so the mega drive had to... Interesting stuff. Anyhow thanks for the insight and your comments. I appreciate you taking time to comment. Thanks

    That black DualShock controller is PS2, not PS1 although PS1 did have DualShock but it was in standard grey or light grey with the Slim console. I mean how would we play Spyro without DualShock?

      @@RetroTechRepair You could but only for PS1 games since the controllers were detected as what they were if I remember right. Some PS2 games may have worked with the old controller.

  • @SLRModShop

    You got the 2 most unattractive PS1 unfortunately. SCPH-100x has a bad laser assembly and always draws power (plug it in, DO NOT use it, wait an hour, place you hand above the PSU...) and the SCPH-900x doesn't have an I/O port and is not compatible with the Xstation (and no I/O means not compatible with the PSio either). I know it's a job lot, but as an FYI, only go for SCPH-7xxx or SCPH-5xxx or PSone (just to grab the laser assemblies as they are the best available).

      @@RetroTechRepair Yes, there are consoles to avoid if you value your time.
      All example below include full cleaning and general maintenance:
      OG Xbox = Spend 8 hours, make £25.
      PS1 simple modchip = 2 hours, £5.
      GameBoys = 2 hours, £15.
      Gamecube = 3 hours, £10.
      and so on.
      I'm including everything, cost of parts, cardboard box, bubble wrap, IPA, etc.
      Some aren't that bad, you can make £7.5 an hour selling gameboys! If you can sell 10 per day you have a living wage ^-^ Gameboys cost £40, you need to spent £900 per day to live off of gameboys! Not kidding, IPS screen cost £45, GB cost £40, add to that a capacitor here and there... Multiply that by 10 per day so you can pay your rent...
      The only way to make money is to go for expensive mods that few people do and people are fond of. I spend around £800 per week on modkits alone... £60 per month on packing material ^-^
      Basically, if one doesn't LOVE modding, it's not even an option. You need to be passionate about it.
      Check my website if you have one minute to spare, I cannot even afford to keep a single console I'm selling for myself... I'm not kidding, I don't personally own any of the consoles I'm selling.
