This album was the death knell for hair metal - Poison, Motley Crue, Ratt etc - and a return to proper rock. I was 13 when this came out, life changing!
I’m 50yrs old and this is my all time favorite stranded on an island and only one CD you can have with you pick. And yes this song is totally about addiction to heroin!!!
I remember my mom and me picking my friend up for school and that day he learned how cool my mom was. He was a known thief from stores. You walk in with him and when he comes out he's pulling all sorts of things out his clothes. He had my mom put this on and she loved it so he gave the tape to her. It was newly released.
that was hilarious how u guys wore those wigs while watching lol its great to see streamers have some fun with their streams u guys always rock out great stream
Appetite For Destruction was the definitive album for GnR. I've never listened to any of their albums after this one, and haven't been a fan in over 20 years, but It' still in my top 10 rock albums of all time.
"Appetite" made Rock Serious & Dangerous again. Use Your Illusion 1&2 told the word that being dangerous is important when it includes intelligence and purpose. After those albums the intensity and cohesion was lost and so was the magic.
Appetite For Destruction is one of the very best albums from G-n-R and you are missing out if you haven't listened to it from beginning to end! Night Train, It's So Easy, Rocket Queen and the much over played Sweet Child 'O Mine...any song on this album you just can't go wrong!
Ok-I can’t🤣🤣The wigs-the wigs!! Epic 🖤Love you guys-always brighten my day🥰 Remember when this came out and my friend and I were walking home from jr high blasting this tape from the boombox she was carrying😁Good times🖤
One of the best heroine songs ever written. Utter banger of a track from an all time great album. Check out Night train for their favourite budget booze at the time of writing and rocket Queen to hear Axl give his girlfriend an orgasm because "the track was missing something". Watched this in the site office and had a few of the tech nodding their heads along lol. Keep up the good work my dudes..
Actually it was Stephen Adler's girlfriend he gave the orgasm too. Rocket Queen is actually my favorite song on the album. I wouldn't really call them hair metal. They did come out of the Hollywood scene, which was where Hair Metal was popular. They used the hair metal look a few times, but quickly transitioned out of it. They went with a more stoner vibe once they got signed and started taking off.
The individuals on the cross on the Guns N' Roses cover - Top (Izzy Stradlin, rhythm guitar), Center (W. Axl Rose, lead vocals), Bottom (Slash, lead guitar), Left (Duff McKagan, bass) and Right (Steven Adler, drums)... Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler are not in the current Guns N' Roses. Slash said he wrote 'Mr. Brownstone' about his he+++n habit at the time.
Duff… you look more like Duff than Axl, Smokey 😆 Listened to this album so many times in my younger days. I drew that album cover on EVERYTHING lol. It makes me laugh now that we got away with listening to that stuff at 11 years old… the sex, the drugs, the alcohol, the profanity. I was ELEVEN! What was I doing?! 😆 I think I turned out ok though 😊
one of my favorite gnr tracks, musically, the subject is tricky. i have been through substance issues myself, so it hits hard! keep up the great work you guys! big love to all people :)
Gymnophobics experience anxiety from nudity, even if they realize their fear is irrational. They may worry about seeing others naked, being seen naked, or both.
I remember my older brothers jamming to this when I was around 4 in the late 80s. I rediscovered it in high school around 2000, and I just had to pick up the guitar. It's been 25 years since then, and I still can't play as good as Slash, but it sure as hell is fun to try! 😂
Fun Facts: At the end of the song in the lyrics: "Shoved it in the bindle and I shot it in the middle And it, it drove outta my mind I should've known better, said I wish I never met her, said I leave it all behind," A bindle is a "dimebag" full of heroin, he shot it in the middle, getting rid of it, and says he wished he never met her (her being heroin) and he just quit it cold turkey. -This song is about how heroin affected the band. Mr. Brownstone is likely to be their dealer. Brownstone isn't a common slang term for heroin, but it is brown, which is likely to be where the dealer got his name from.
This is the only good album, from beginning to end no skips. At the time of release nothing compared. Still sounds timeless. I had it on cassette with the banned internal cover. Nothing but rock and roll attitude from beginning to end. A shame they couldn't keep it going, G'n'R in their prime.
@@terryhall7697 my all time favorite GnR song , Coma, is in UYI. Some excellent songs. But as a double disk album it definitely has some fluff, no way is it as tight as AFD.
STILL my fav GNR album. All killer.,.no filler….i dug your description of their music. The link between pop/hair metal & grunge….they were one of the biggest reasons glam metal died. They brought a grit to hard rock that wasn’t seen in a while. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
In the late 80s many albums would be released overseas 6-12 months before usa to market test. I was on a med deployment (navy) when this was released. I got it on cassette, and yes, had a walkman! I wore the shit outta that tape!
Great Reaction to this Classic Masterpiece.. I know this Classic Masterpiece Song is about Herion but for me it's about my addiction to Alcohol 😞 Im 35 now and it's been a struggle for me, but im sober now , trying to fix my depression and anger and true hurt inside me So one day at a time they say,and i agree,im sober for today,i can't say about tomorrow but im thankful that im sober today, thank God!
In my country (The Netherlands) they say "bolletje bruin" (or they used to say it) that means "small ball of brown" aka heroine (you drop it like speed(or coke maybe) in rolling paper and make it in a little ball and swallow it)..
The music says no, but the photos in the liner notes says yes. I remember how much they teased their hair, I was there when it happened. To be fair, all that hair could have been held up by all the coke they were doing lol. Either way, I blame the label and they quickly shed the hair metal image anyways after the album blew up.
There are no bad songs about heroin. Try China White by the Scorpions. Amazing tension with different aspects of song being in different time signatures.
An ode to heroin! One of their best songs. They attorneys tried to use this song against Axl when he was in court over the Steven Adler stuff. Axl's testimony is here on UA-cam. His answers were perfect. When they lost Steven as a drummer they lost that awesome "bounce" this album has. Matt Sorum was a more straight beat metal drummer. You can really hear how their sound changed after this album. Duff never clicked with Matt the way he did with Steven.
It’s uncanny how much you look like Slash lol! I know him, for 30 years. He just doesn’t age. Love this guys!! ☮️❤️😎🎼 Regardless, y’all look like all my friends lol
Out west in NorCal, we were not really into the hair band scene. Of course some bands were good, but it was just too cookie cutter after awhile. Motley Crue went all colorful and pink. Could not relate to Poison. Then GnR came out and blew the scene away. Not just the higher level of musicianship, but the attitude. Their songs are not about the "yeah, lets go back to my place, we'll have a real good time" party party stuff. They were real. And I don't think any band before them used the f-word more than they did. At the time, our entire South Sac neighborhood was on meth, drinking and music. Most of us played guitar or were in bands.....but we were into the hard core metal and rock. Mr Brownstone explained all of it. "Used to do a little, but the little got more and more" and "Now I get up around whenever, I used to get up on time. But that old man is a real mother fucker gonna kick him on down the line." It hit home for sure. Glad I got out of that world soon after.
Nothing wrong with CD being your favorite when you don't have the background and nostalgic pull us olds have. It's an excellent Axl album, people just don't connect as much because the other dudes in the family were missing
Best debut album ever, every song, not just a banger, but a classic, even sweet child o mine, even though I always skip it now when I put this album on.
Mr. Brownstone = Heroin
Heroin is magical
@@cmyFUfingermaybe so, but nothing that good comes without a price...

But this album has another song about heroin as well
A love song to it
Think About You
It's So Easy next.... the standout and most underated song on that album.
