Amelia Chastain, an arabesque is when you extend your leg back, and penche is when you lift your leg up and simultaneously have your upper body go down. It should look like your lifting your leg so high that your upper body goes down, like a lever. Although if your well trained and stretched it should not hurt
I genuinely wish I could start ballet because I admire it so much and I've dreamed of being able to for so long. The dancers have my utmost respect and admiration they move so elegantly and fluidly it's genuinely beautiful how they move 💕
Anfisa Anastazia it's just the money, y'know? Parents work a bunch but they only make enough for our pets, food and house. And I'm way too embarrassed to ask them because I feel like they'll just laugh or something...
Hold Me Tight gurl, ask your parents to start dance. If your parents actually care about your interests and what you want to do for fun, they won’t laugh. They will try their best to get you in dance. If they can’t, then there is probably some reason like a schedule conflict with the rehearsal/class times idk. Idk your parents though. Point being, ask your parents. If you are too embarrassed to ask verbally, write a note or something idk and put it on their dresser or pillow. If you want to dance, then dance.
I was supposed to start, but my dad’s being really strict about it. I had scoliosis for a while and now that I’m better, I wanted to start ballet because I’ve loved it for so long and I find the delicate movements so beautiful and soft, but he doesn’t want me to risk anything. I get where he’s coming from, but he’s being a little unreasonable. All I wanted was a chance, if something happens then I’d stop, but now I can’t even get that. It’s frustrating and unfair. Go for your passions and dreams, and have courage and faith. Good luck :)
Malou Chan That’s true. 😂 The amount of leg strength you need to be able to pull that move off though is outstanding. On top of that, she’s even doing it en pointe without her foot being sickled.
Ballet is very hard, because it requires strength, flexibility, balance, hard work and more. Honestly, ballet is harder than the other sports I’ve done
@@_junealogy haha... I can imagine... Ballet is hard enough. I would say it's equal, though, because ballerinas have the pointe shoe aspect, and figure skaters have...well...the skates😂
Maren Quaranta I agree with you. My friend does figure skating and I do ballet and we talked about it, imo figure skating is harder to learn (because, you know, gotta get used to the ice) but ballet is harder to master (been dancing for years and still sickle my foot haha). However pointe shoes and skates are pretty different, the skates actually contribute to the, well, skating, and pointe shoes don’t do much besides but look pretty (and cause pain). Just my thoughts on the matter tho
I think that where sport and art intersect you're always going to find the most difficult disciplines. Ballet, figure skating, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, gymnastics, etc. I think it's really hard to choose any such discipline as "the hardest" because they're all so different, and all so hard.
It's interesting for me to see a more modern Giselle where the dancer has her hair in more of a ponytail instead of a bun! I love the way it looks but you can see it starting to whip around during the manege at the end, ouch! How does she not flinch?
I think the only thing that ruins it is the fact that you can hear the sound of her points on the stage. Kinda distracts from the light and flowy vibe.
Sargerine I literally have like a mannerism or something like that! Not really something serious but I subconsciously do something in a beat or count everything
All of her movements are so fluid but there is something about the way she moves her arms/hands that I just find absolutely mesmerizing. She truly looks as light as a feather, like she’s floating in water almost

Stun-Ning. She makes it look effortless. I’ve done pointe. It’s not easy. And those arabesques? From pointe to a flat foot and almost no bobbling, just a smooth transition? Phenomenal.
I watched this performance a while ago and thought it was pretty but just that. Then I saw the same performance by other people and realized that this performance is so freaking amazing because you look at it and just enjoy it. The other performances I saw, I could see the girl struggling which made me realize how some of these steps, although not fancy looking, are actually so straining and hard and difficult to even keep your balance in some of them. She's amazing.
She's just so light and delicate looking which is what makes this performance so enjoyable, although there are a few others who embody the same qualities.

Is this a recent version? Most Giselle wear blue tops in this scene.
I think this is a color balance problem with the video (too much red/magenta). The top is likely blue.
I think this was back in 2003 or 2004 in Japan.
