We had our grandchildren with us at Mass last Sunday. During communion we were singing this song when I glanced at our two beautiful grandchildren and I was overcome with Our Lords Love and my gratitude for Him.
Yes we also sang this today - Saturday evening mass - for our communion hymn. I fell in love with the musical notes of this song within a few seconds - it being played during communion is a much grander stage
Is it nearing 10 years for this concert?! It is so nice to have a recording of it, to relive it. I am on the far left, turquoise top, with St. Joseph's Choir led by Jamie Loback. Still a beautiful piece.
In recent years this has been done for Ascension Sunday. Communion is a logical time given the second verse. I've also done it at weddings, including my own and also at the recessional at my wife's funeral. And obviously done it at my concerts.
I got a bit choked up in verse 1 because I was thinking about my wife who was in poor health. You can see her from the back when the camera pulls away at 1:18. I recorded this song on my 2nd CD which came out in 2011. Sadly, my wife was not alive to hear it.
It kind of sounded like I just said it being played made communion much more grander but really what I meant to say was the song being played at specific instances compared to others really makes the song pop out - communion being the most grander stage of all if your a christian
The lyrics are theologically astounding! This is also played frequently at a Catholic church in Chicago -- at Old St. Patrick's on Des Plaines in the downtown area. Just wish the piece would be played at a quicker pace. It comes across as a dirge and it's hardly that. Pianists need to step it up!
Not just pianists but conductors 😂 lol. OSP is known for its weddings and this piece is popular for those. We did it for ascension Sunday. Yes it's one of those tunes that is very solid also for funerals and confirmations, especially at post-communion considering verse 2. The lyrics - wow!
