I used to do split-screen races with my uncle in Gran Turismo 3, it was the second game he gave me for PS2 in 2001. We'd always do either Super Speedway or Test Track because he only knew how to turn left, but with boost assist on, it actually made for some fun times and close races.
Never did multi player, but in the days of GT1 and 3, my buddy and I would take turns driving on endurance races. One would drive, while the other would "pit crew" and watch gas and tires so the driver could just drive. And maybe give out some reminders of upcoming turns. Of course, that was in our late teens/early 20s, so pit crew would also sample any herbal remedies... Miss these days for sure!
"by Alex Albon" cracked me up instantly As a South American, Gran Turismo online multiplayer was never really a thing until PSN was a thing. And unfortunately I didn't have many people to share the enthusiasm of racing around me, so I was always a single player guy. Still remains like that, mostly.
We had a race series in gt5 and played in teams of 4 drivers. So it was 4v4 when 2 teams played each other and we had F1 style point awarded, one team picked the track, the other picked the car, and the first team who picked the track also chose the PP limit of the car and they had full tuning so we would study the tuning for the week leading up to the race. I remember my team making the grand final at Grand Valley in the MX5 😂 we won the championship and i recorded it with a handycam next to my setup, it's an old video on this channel and it didn't age the best but brings back great memories.
Hello Steve! My friend group and I still do LAN parties to this day on Gran Turismo. We play GT4 on PS2s to this day. We have racing rigs, team colors & gear. Since GT4 was the last GT with LAN, we decided to stay on GT4 to keep the tradition going. My friend group and I get together quarterly for race night and we've been doing this for the past 26 years. We've got a structured league/season format & a love for racing. We do play other racing games but nothing can possibly outlast GT4. LAN in GT7 would be life-changing for us all!
I am immensely envious, I just recently got PS2 and GT4 and would love some proper racing in it, the Ai are decent but you gotta gimp your car to give them a chance. Id love to race another person
I remember a 1v1 against my brother on a one lap race on Laguna Seca, I won overtaking on the main straight to the finish line, pretty close indeed. just don't pay attention to the fact I was driving the formula car and he was driving the GT500 Nismo GT-R...
Gran Turismo 4’s online servers were remade a couple years ago and I’ve done quite a lot of racing on it. It definitely has a heavy nostalgic feel to it even though online in particular was not something I experienced ‘back in my day 👴🏼’
You're exemplary commentary which is delivered in such a cool and calmly controlled manner never fail to make me smirk. Introducing Ben Rod to everyone's friend 'the grass' lmao. Keep up the great content Steve.
Imagine if polyphony made the effort to have a team of employees dedicated to setting up and balancing 'random' cars around tracks like this, once a week/month.
What I miss the most from early Gran Turismo online racing is the open car selection and tuning. The races were regulated only by PP and weight and sometimes drivetrain. You could have a tuned up ZO6 Corvette racing with GT3 cars. People could run different compound tires too. I really enjoyed those days because you could make really oddball cars compete and it was funny to see.
Me and my brothers used to play split screen in GT2 with my mom, she loved rally racing with the Impreza Rally Car… she pasted away 3 years ago, good memories.
Hello, When I Think Of Classic Gran Turismo I Think Of Something Like This, Viewers here. Nice win. That track looks fun, the first sector is like a flat, miniature S1 of Zandvoort.
I was trying to help my 11 year old daughter go to sleep. She was upset about a fight with her mom. She kept tossing and turning, punching her pillow, until I remembered how soothing she finds your narration. She is sound asleep now as I type. Thank you!
Great video ! That s my first time trying the Sport mode in GT7 and definitely a lot of fun (and sometime frustation). I think you forgot to share your car setup in the description. I m really interested to compare with my (potentially crapy) settings. Cheers
split screen multiplayer in gt4 was amazing with a friend. We had an honour system, if someone spun out or fell behind we'd wait, depending on the size of the error. The only acceptable victory was in a close race, nose to tail, with defensive driving and bold overtaking tactics being the name of the game. Nothing can beat the autum ring with 276bhp class Japanese cars.
One of my favourite gran turismo multiplayer experiences (although not my absolute favourite) was going over to a friend's house to play gt3, he was using a wheel and he handed me a controller and I wiped the floor with him handily despite his claims of being better because of the wheel He didn't like that, so he gave me the wheel (a crap cheap unit) knowing that I had zero experience with one, and he took the controller, and started a new race It took me 3 laps to go from multiple 10's of seconds down to being right on his tail and in contention for first, I still lost, but the race ended up still being an embarrassing moment for that friend because he had all the advantages and was shit talking the whole way round, right up until he found himself having to desperately defend against me 😂 That wheel was awful, it snapped back to dead centre, had less than 180 degrees of rotation, and was gritty feeling and rattly, and that friend didn't keep it long given how crap it was
Watched the livestream. Never has a driver been more deserving of a punting than in the second race, ( I haven't watched that far yet, but I'm guessing it's the Scott Chegg race). Played GT4 online once or twice with the gaming group from a newspaper. It was a little laggy back then, whereas GT7 is mostly buttery smooth online now, but it was a good laugh. Good luck at the weekend.
My dad taught me to race in GT3 for the PS2 when I was like 8 or 9? We once went to a restaurant where they had a kids area with GT set up on their TV, someone said "we're taking turns, but if you win you get to keep playing" needless to say I was there all night ;)
Just started playing this game, mostly from watching your UA-cam video’s! Just got my first bronze time in a time trial! You’re awesome, greetings from Belgium!

They should have more races like this in the daily race A slot for those of us who are less consistent when racing closely with others. I feel so bad racing in DR B and having pace but losing my nerves in close quarters at high speed in Gr. 3 and ruining both my race and someone else’s. This race is a perfect low stakes training ground for racing closely and staying calm.
Used to play Gran Turismo 2 with my cousins, on the CD 1. They had all cars on one save because of game shark, we used to have great time playing. looks like so long gone now.
I actually had the auxillary network adapter that screwed into the back of a PS2 and played GT4 online. I even got to participate in one of the Nissan driving academy time trials with it.
My mate and I used to live on GT4 2-player races. We’d drag our memory cards round to the other player’s house and almost invariably end up on Le Mans, no chicanes with our best Le Mans cars. Unbelievable times.
For me. Even playing this game since GT first launched, the quintessential GT experience is racing with SNAIL on the GTPlanet forums in GT5. GT5s physics were a lot of fun. Drifting was so good, and never felt the same once PD changed up the tire physics. And losing shuffle races, that sucked too. I sure do miss those days.
I had a really fun race of Daily A today too... though I was running a stock set-up so I'll have to have a play around with that! :) Awesome video and racing Steve :)
Could be wrong but i think there is a whole career track for this exact type of racing on gtsport, i did all the career races quickly but these were still fun!
My dad, sister and I would play Grand Turismo 3 on PS2 all the time- I remember taking the classic beetle on 2-3 lap races around the nordshleife! We called it “the pig track”
My first memories of playing video games includes GT1 and Crash team racing on the PS1. We use to have these 2 controllers with little wheel nobs on them and a trigger on the bottom for the gas. We lost the memory cards really early on while having the system. So we only ever had the starting cars and tracks. But me being 4 years old didn’t care. I just liked driving fast cars on a race track. 🤣. (I actually don’t remember how old I was but it definitely was before Kindergarten.) With CTR we would leave the console on while we were away so we could come back and continue later.
Dear PD, Please make an online championship featuring fun low HP cars like these instead of big fancy championships with GR3/4, Super Formulas, and Red Bull X2019's. This is better racing than 99% of your daily B's and C's. MX-5 has an official IMSA series, Radicals are always great fun, what about shifter karts? Not everyone wants the same boring GR.X around big international race tracks. People will forgive races without strategy or weather if the racing between everyone is close, genuine, and enjoyable. - The real fans.

I finally get an anonymous mention, and it's a more negative comment... I hope you know I still enjoy your races, but I wish more were like the first race on this video. Sometimes you even finish on 12th place but you still have incredibly tense and fun races for that spot, and it feels better than you getting an effortless first place (like in the last race of that stream)
Honestly I feel like GT7 is missing a lot of THIS. There's a dozen track day cars and enthusiast specials that seem to be completely absent from any daily race, one make race, time trial... Anything I have a shifter kart, a radical, a civic, a 1500 formula car... Any one of them would make an amazing multiplayer championship.
The difference between the Americas and Europe in GT7 multiplayer I personally find quite fascinating. You'd think it'd be broadly the same, but clearly it's not. Wonder why that is ...
As a player in the americas, I feel like there are far more players who don't take it seriously enough which is fair I suppose since it's still just a game.. but it can be very frustrating just trying to keep SR up when people are constantly dive bombing or just plain driving into you. Just try my best to avoid the carnage lol
Just a shot in the dark but could it be that the more serious people here are much more likely to do iRacing instead of a console game? PC gaming is huge, and there's more people who can afford all that iRacing entails. Most who buy console just want couch games and no hassle.
True, there are other things in the world going on but your videos are a welcome distraction and form of entertainment which we need amongst this doom and gloom.
One time I did multi-player online people kept dive bombing each other crashing out everyone. Immediately got turned off and just stayed with single player. I loved the endurance races, did you ever play them?
You can tell the American and European servers are much different enviroments by the behavior. The blue miata driver was making mistakes all while he was in front of SuperGT even though he was successfully blocking him for several laps, probably losing his cool thinking that SuperGT is going to push him wide like the grey miata driver did right after, so when he makes the wrong call on the same corner he could have snapped or could have actually perceived that he was forced off his line. this race is looking very fun tho and I'm thinking I'll have to hop on.
Cheers from the lovely frenchman ! It was a nice battle, and yes your move was legitimate.

I love that thing to bits! One of the most enjoyable cars in the game.
Not if you watch the Mazda MX5 Cup at IMSA races.
Fully tuned with NOZ it is actually the fastest car on GT7 😂
Its the most overrated car ever made.
@_SpamMe YES, this is why I love that they have this race this week, because of the MX5 cup.
BenRod deserved that, in fact, i'll go as far as saying that he deserved to have a meet with Barry R to have a talk
Crazy to see this video and having done a few races with BenRod myself today as well.

Hahaha. Just commented same. What a hard worker he is.
It often happens when using a controller. The left stick accidentally gets pushed in while steering triggering the headlight flashing.

Barely any opportunities to race 'your' car only in gran turismo, unless its changed since i last played.
That last corner is the most important corner of the entire track! So much time to be gained there!
