After watching this a second time, I'm convinced this is going to be a legendary drum machine. We will be talking about this thing for decades. It will be the sound of so much modern music. Roland has topped all of their previous drum machines with this one unit, and at the same time rolled them all into one. A vast improvement to the TR-8. In fact, I would not have bought the TR-8, however the TR-8S is almost an entirely new machine. It's like they skipped several steps and this is now what the TR-8 should have been from the get-go. Also, Roland- this guy knows way too much. He should be playing stages at Burning Man with his knowledge of electronic grooves and the machines that are used to make them. Give this guy a raise, or at least, send him to a festival to play some tunes.
I've been saying the same thing about the TR-8S. It does a lot more than one would assume a drum machine could. LFOs, substeps, polyrhythms where each instrument can run its own number of steps, automation, etc. It will be legendary, guaranteed. I've also been saying the same thing about the Novation Peak. These things have always been targeted at a niche market, so there will come a point where Roland will discontinue it. Basically my advice to anyone considering picking up the 8S is to buy one now before they end up on eBay twenty years from now at four or five times the price, similar to the TB-303, 808 and TR-909. And once you buy one, take damn good care of it.
Good intro video even 3 years later. The great news is that with the recent release of the TR Editor and the 2.0 upgrade with FM as well as the TR-6S last year, Roland seems to have committed to this product line for a while.
This video sold me on this piece of kit. You went into so much detail. Thank you. That tape delay is just plain sick, and it looks like such a solid piece of gear
I owned a TR-8 for 2 days... then I saw this thing on demo and immediately upgraded... As a beginner to this stuff, this is like handing a Ferrari to a 16 year old - yet safer. It's certainly more machine than I have any idea how to use... but give me a few months and I'm sure I can make all kinds of trouble with it. :D
Amazing amount of features in this drum machine and this video shows you a lot of them. I especially like automated motion on the hi hats, or multiple filters on each sample. Popping on and off motion for sudden timbre change is a good idea, also can pop on and off a filter in the master section to create a sudden bright to dark mix change. Time these effects to picture/video and I'd say you have an interesting audio to visual soundtrack. I'd like to try this in a normal DAW synced to picture workflow to see how this might sound/look. A live DJ to picture kind of workflow then record the result as your percussion part. With the idea that it saves time sequencing without stopping.
Trig and parameter locks would be great (yeah, yeah, yeah). Thanks for the last update Roland, the step looper is a lot of fun... keep upgrading this thing!!! I love it, but it has a ceiling in a way that a teenage engineering or electron piece of gear doesn’t.
1hr into the video..he’s still adjusting the camera lmao..who’s getting those angles?? Cause we aren’t! Lol ⚡️It’s probably for the lecture so people can see.
Really wish all three knobs were assignable. 905 of the time the "tune" knob is just taking up space... Maybe if it was course tuning it would be more useful. but making all three assignable to 3 diff internal params would be AMAZING!!!
Genius work incorporating Eurorack, looks like a lot of fun! So I can have multiple triggers to various modules and if so, I would lose some voice functionality on the drum sounds? Either way, I can utilize a semi-modular synth with clock input, seems like a no-brainer with my current set-up.
you dont lose voice functionality as you can assign drum sounds to any open output if you wanted. or you could just have all the sounds go out through the master outs?
Might be a beginner question: if you have an A thru D pattern built, for example, and are on sequence A twisting knobs and changing each instrument sound as you might in a live performance... if you then switch to sequence B which was an exact copy of sequence A, will the sounds revert back to how they were originally setup for or maintain my edits from A to ensure smooth transition? I have this issue with my Korg Volca Sample. When I move from instrument to instrument and twist decay for example, it will abruptly switch to which ever percentage that knob was turned and therefore ruin the flow of the song. Hope that question makes sense! I cannot find anyone talking about this issue in any demos/tutorials anywhere.
One of the best product demos I’ve seen recently. The demonstrator was fantastic. And without doubt the worst I’ve seen and heard from a technical perspective. If I was Roland I wouldn’t ask ADSR to host another workshop. Why the GoPro’s weren’t set up and tested beforehand or why they needed replacement or adjustment for the entire workshop is beyond me. The sound mix was amateur and some of the the synths were drowning out the excellent and incredibly patient speaker. The GoPro footage wasn’t seen for more than a few minutes and the vast majority of the audience was online so the really great Roland products were not shown at their best. At the very least a tightly edited video copy, masking out all the ham fisted camera fiddling could have been made to post here, with GoPro footage and more product inserts. As a professional music production company this video is not a very good advertisement for ADSR.
Can you use the Roland tr8s as a profesional interface too? I'm working with Ableton, I would love to have a tr8 but I don't want to keep adding weight to my gear without considering the possibility of taking some of it off. In this case, it would be the sound card. So, would you use tr8s as a professional audio interface or not?
So true! That constant adjustment of the gopro is very annoying guys. You could do that ahead or just have someone who knows to adjust it in one attempt and send the beginners home. You prepa6a one hour great demo and used a stupid tripod with all the wires flying in front of your guest . Also should you have that hall reverb on the speaker lav mic?
bcdjrise 1hr into the video..he’s still adjusting the camera lmao..who’s getting those angles?? Cause we aren’t! Lol It’s probably for the lecture so people can see.
You can see how uncomfortable he felt when the cam guy was fucking around next to him all the time! I would have packed my stuff and piss off from this place! But i guess he is to nice and didn't want to let the audience down and also Roland

Sorry there is no way the tr8 s sounds “album ready” out of the box. This thing needs heavy external equalising and external effects to make it sound full and decent in a mix.
TR-8s masterclasss? Or hand and minicam show with a drum machine demo just happening to go on in the background? We may never know........other than that constant fecking distraction, a good demonstration.
I have a question. I have this idea that the TR’s are mostly used for EDM and hip hop genre and the like. I have one burning question because I can’t get to test this machine at any of the local stores where I am right now: Can this TR8S be used to write a drum sequence for a complete pop song like you would traditionally with Roland R8 ....where I can chain different patterns with or without fills, right from intro through to the verses, choruses, outro(if any) till the end of the song? Tq. Really appreciate this.
you could definitely write a pop song with a machine like this. marvin gaye's sexual healing is a prime example of how a drum machine of this format could work within pop. Here's a playlist for more TR-808 inspiration: open.spotify.com/user/2wsm5s5j9gqu847omo2g35k4r/playlist/3g1P1NzXWxJSBTEmavPHyp
The TR-8S does not have a song mode per say but it could easily be used to write an entire song. You would need to have some minor interaction with the machine to make it step through the different sections though.
This is an awesome video. Whoever that guy is with the GoPro's needs to be fired though. Stop fussing with them. It's distracting. Get better cameras that aren't designed for mountain bikes. Using GoPro's for video production is like saying you want to be an Olympic cyclist and buying a unicycle. . The way the TR8S is explained in this video is SO much deeper than anywhere else on the internet. I had no idea. This thing is insane. I'm getting one ASAP.
Dude. Camera guy needs to go away. So terrible.. Set your stuff up BEFORE the presentation. Questions should be done with a mic so it's audible to people. The presenter is rad and the unit is badass for sure. I have a TR8S and its sick. You can automate changes so parameters of sounds morph and its recorded. Vast possibilities
I subbed, watched for a bit, then unsubbed. Those constant adjustments were too frequent, ineffectual and distracting. And for what. Im trying to look at dude's face while he's talking and its all sausages, wires and tripods, oh my. Love the facilitator, watch him continuously elsewhere - but WoW. 😂
I actually stopped watching this video after about 15 minutes. The chap fiddling with the cameras is so extremely annoying. ADSR Music Production Tutorials, can you please make a new tutorial for the TR-8s and make sure you use professionals to record it this time please. Because the content of the tutorial was o.k.
you guys are too unprofessional. how many times do I need to watch this guy adjust the camera and walk behind the presenter? why does the presenter keep repeating himself? Why don't you have a track list or some game plan to follow? You guys need better preparation. Get it set up before you start the cameras, please. Prepare your material before you start talking and have a workflow / track list as if you're performing a concert. I bet if you look at the statistics for this video, you're losing people 10-15 minutes in.

This comment didn’t age well 🥴

Even non-Roland samples sound better with this machine! It's really really cool...
TR-s8 is an incredible machine! So many possibilities and hands-on control! Totally worth the price.
This video sold me on this piece of kit. You went into so much detail. Thank you. That tape delay is just plain sick, and it looks like such a solid piece of gear
Amazing!!! But maybe do camera set up before the presentation!!!

Do you feel like you moved up too fast? I got the tr8 a couple months ago and want to upgrade but feel like i may bite off more than i can chew
System 500 is amazing!! Love the sound of it. Great demo, much appreciated.
Peter is the MAN!!!!!!! I have the TR8s
Great demo! But what was the suggestion yelled out of things to do in Denver there in the first minute or two?

14:00 Pretty cool how quick you can build a good beat with this thing.
Trig and parameter locks would be great (yeah, yeah, yeah). Thanks for the last update Roland, the step looper is a lot of fun... keep upgrading this thing!!! I love it, but it has a ceiling in a way that a teenage engineering or electron piece of gear doesn’t.
I. DO. NOT. NEED. MORE. GEAR. BUTTTTTTT. This is definitely an awesome machine.
Bart Benton man me neither, fuckkkkkkkkkk🤣🤣🤣 gotta get this😩😩😩
We NEED an instructional video or BOOK....not just a small manual.
1hr into the video..he’s still adjusting the camera lmao..who’s getting those angles?? Cause we aren’t! Lol

I've tried so hard NOT to buy this , because i have the TR8 ,,, but i give in ...... i must have one !!!!!!!!!
SJ Same here I had the TR8 and had to sell it. TR8s is definetly what the TR8 should have been at launch.
Genius work incorporating Eurorack, looks like a lot of fun! So I can have multiple triggers to various modules and if so, I would lose some voice functionality on the drum sounds? Either way, I can utilize a semi-modular synth with clock input, seems like a no-brainer with my current set-up.

I just read your comment. I have just got the maschine so will check it out for you, me and everyone.

Agreed.
Thanks for stating that, I thought it was amateur hour with sidekick!
10:19 is just sick, did the presenter create that I wonder? If so, nicely done man.
No. The creator presented that
I have a DS1 boss distortion pedal. Can I run my tb03 or tr8s through it?
If you wearing headphones while listening @ about 17:19 volume up might blow your ear drums 🙀 & 8bit sampling only?
JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAA..Buena herramienta para la autentica configuracion MIDI y nuestra interpretacion en vivo y en directo en nuestra evolucion...

Someone needs to slap the guy who keeps screwing around with the camera.

You can see how uncomfortable he felt when the cam guy was fucking around next to him all the time! I would have packed my stuff and piss off from this place! But i guess he is to nice and didn't want to let the audience down and also Roland
I would have liked to see step by step video of the keyboard...going slow enough that a novice can follow along.

8 bit samples - hmmmm - nice
im thinking about purchasing one to use with my Ableton push, one concern I have is apparently internal memory is low

Thank you
Euro-crack! Lol that’s about right
Thank you Internet’s 🤣🤣something an old grandma 👵 would say
or reddit?

Who knew a go pro could be such a pain in the ass.....probably anyone who's ever owned one lol
He took the camera in the end. 😂
Should have had all that sorted out before they started the presentation.
Gotta' love "professionals".

Yeah man, the dude on camera duty should be fired for sure!!
Great machine btw!
an overhead view of what you are doing would go miles.....
Can the TR8S be used in a DAWLESS set up
Yes. Most definitely.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m sure this was really good but 12 minutes was all I could take of the guy messing with the camera - which we never got to see the view from anyway.

Well the modular rig is cool 🙄
That guy not being able to align the fucking overhead camera gave me a cancer.
31:33
How annoying is the GoPro guy!!??
Can’t even see what he’s doing
Dont think he can
Great machine. But this dude put me to sleep. 😴
I subbed, watched for a bit, then unsubbed.

Hey go pro tech, go home.
Roland would sell more instruments l if they would show their instruments with someone making nice music with them.. But these weird chaotic sounds?..
