This video will show you how much better OpenToonz is compared to Animate. It has more brushes and more flexibility and has a bitmap alternative other than Animate. Animate is most likely to be puppetry with vectors while OpenToonz is more for traditional animation (frame by frame). OpenToonz is also free which makes it more accessible to everyone. Even though Toonz has no objects compared to Animate, this program could be all you need.
Hi. Thanks for including some clips from my channel here.
Regarding the OpenToonz review, you're showing mostly out of date versions of OpenToonz in this demo; some here are 3 years old. The last 2 versions (for 2 years now) have had a horizontal timeline. And in the latest version, this is shown in the first room that you see and use, so the xsheet really is just a separate option that most new users won't ever see, so I wouldn't put that down as a problem.
But overall, this was a good summary of some of its features. And I'd say, after using both software, I wouldn't use Adobe Animate if it was free. OpenToonz has all the features I need and then some.
Thank you very much for the thourough feedback Darren! We really like your work, keep it up!
We actually thought of mentioning that to highlight the effort of the devs that made the interface a lot more accessible with every new version. We're looking forward to seeing more of your work ;)
Big fan bro ❤️ thanks for making me fall in love with OpenToonz with your tutorial
@@samratix2497 Thank you. I'm glad I paid a small part in that 😀👍
I agree OpenToonz is better... but Flash.. (Animate CC)... is nostalgia.... BTW, love your vids.. 😀😀
@@zoro_kun_no_chichi I still remember how hard it was just to reduce opacity of a layer for using it as rough sketch/reference. There wasn't any option for that. No way of drawing rough. Even in flash onion skin didnt have any color, we had to change the color of previous and next frame for that, I wonder how could anyone pay monthly for a software like that.
Opentoonz has a horizontal timeline option.
It seems Opentoonz beats the shit out of Animate.
Yeah
I know. They showed such terrible shit for Animate. I already use Opentoonz but if this was my first time seeing it, I'd be sold over Animate any day.
Opentoonz is way much better
True
I agreed
I like it but theres no symbols
Bro can we use opentoonz animation in after effects just by changing the video format
Great for beginners too
As always, skipping to final thoughts is not a bad idea for those who don't have time.
hi,
Could you tell me which software can provide faster workflow in creating sprites sheets assets for making games?
Here are all of my keyboard shortcuts for Adobe animate if anyone wants to see:
A = undo
S = redo
Z = zoom in
X = zoom out
K = paint bucket fill
I = eye dropper
Q = select/free transform
N = straight line
L = lasso
H = hand tool
O = onion skin
/ = insert blank keyframe
F6 = insert keyframe
F5 = insert frame
1 = regular tween
~ = shape tween
Shift-Y = pencil tool
Enter = play
\ = test
Ctrl-S = save
Ctrl-R = import to stage
Ctrl-alt-c = copy frames
Ctrl-alt-v = paste frames
Shift-F6 = clear frame(s)
Shift-F5 = delete frames
; = merge layers
V = selection tool
C = camera
There may be others, but I’m too lazy to check. Byeeee!
This is actually awesome I finally got acusomed to (Aa) and learning this feels like god's blessing regular tween and shape tween seem really useful thx for the help :p

OpenToonz is going to be what I use mainly due to the cost or lack there of despite the learning curve. Regardless my smooth 🧠 is gonna have a bit of time self teaching itself this or any software. Thanx for the comparison vid!
Bro can we use opentoonz animation in after effects just by changing the video format
what about the exporting or the convert to symbole
I love the idea of free software - not keen on spending $$$ on courses to learn free software
And what about comparing OpenToonz to Moho Pro?
1:35 lol that watchmojo watermark XD
You can't mention Studio Ghibli without mentioning WatchMojo ain't it?? xD lol
Love seeing my friend BlendedPlanet here!
The fact that OpenToonz still doesn't have standalone re-usable clips baffles me.
Deal breaker.
It does! Though the terminology is different. Any timeline (scene) can be placed into any other timeline as a sub-Xsheet and transformed (tweened) if required. Changes made to the original scene cascade through the entire project.
Sub-Xsheets ARE the same as (and in some regards better than) re-usable clips in other software.
So if i wanted to animate a anime scene or opening what do i choose ? Opentoonz or Adobe ?
We would highly recommend Opentoonz for that specific case, especially if you're planning to use your drawing skills (you'll be amazed by the GTS scanning system!)
@@InspirationTuts2D thanks
Thanks, GOD bless you.
There is a fork of OpenToonz called Tahoma2D which some might find easier to learn as it includes a horizontal timeline and a few other nice extras.
question for opentoonz: why is it so big like the ui? and how to make it smaller?
You need to set your pc’s interface’s size, or dpi, you need to look into display settings for that
Which software is best for making anime ?
opentoonz
opentoonz was the animation solfware that made futurama, heck yah
I use both of them. Opentoonz is more intuitive and easier to learn, spend one day to check some tutorials and you can learn most functions in it, but adobe animate is overwhelm complex with it mess interface
4:12 MRBEAST?!?!?!?!?!
Who else clicked the cuz it had a Naruto vs Sasuke on the thumbnail thinking they did it in opentoonz ? 😂
Anyways good comparison . I was looking around for a nice comparison between these two sof
Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it! Apparently I'm not the only huge fan of both (Naruto and animation) xD lol, glad that I'm attracting my fellow community
Opentoonz vs Grease Pencil pllease....
Wait opentoonz has brushes!!?!??
The free one
I looked down on the comments and I have to agree with a couple others.
The effort to find something big such a Naruto and than comparing it to the basic tutorials in adobe really is not a fair comparison. Please do plenty of looking around before comparing products, it shows a biased point of view. It's unfair for everyone who's looking into which to spend their time finding one right for them.
Given the price tag animate has and a plethora of issues (like constantly autosaving and making me pull my hair out whenever it does so while I try to undo and redo something) I would say it gets the crap it deserves. Like, Opentoonz has all the features animate has and more to boast with little to no issues while being free, unlike animate which costs you a lot when compared to
@@stickmanreaper4628People just love the more commercial shit smh
Opentoonz footage: extremely technical, polished Ghibli animation.
Adobe Animate footage: *Generic badly animated corporate art*
Was there _no_ examples of good animation you could have used for Adobe Animate? I'd never pick it over OpenToonz, but hot damn, you guys were being pretty unfair.
I know I'm late on the comment, and certainly agree with. I found some that might be a plus. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Grojband, Tom and Jerry show, Aggretsuko 2016-18, Eliot Kid, Teen Titans Go!, Rick and Morty, on the shows listed also had Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. However because the limitation of adobe animate, I'm not surprised that the listed also use other programs such as after effects, photoshop, toon boom and maya and others. Though these are more towards tv series and pro's doing work, not just hobbyists or beginners. In the end, It'll just be preference.
However It is a shame this video leads towards a biased opinion rather than actually trying to compare fairly.
I go with Sasuke this time
Has anyone had any malware issues with this? I'm just overprotective over my new laptop haha, I freak out over every "malware risk" desktop message. It looks like a great software though
Opentoonz is 100 percent safe and abobe animate!! I’ve never had any problems with malware issues:)
@@mrzippy4393 thank you!
@sulk5578 lmfao I get the same way
As much as Adobe sucks as a company, their software is incredibly reputable, would trust it on any PC. Opentoonz isn't quite as well known of a brand, but you've definitely heard of at least one or two major productions it's been used for. As long as you download either one from its actual official source, there should be no malware issue. And if you get it from there and your antivirus flags it, it's a false alarm. That just happens from time to time
Opentoonz is the more professional way if you want do animation like in Japan.
Opentoonz 👍
Who came by seeing thumbnail of naruto vs sasuke
Not me 😑
Me
Me
not me
I thought it was about which program was used for naruto
If any of y’all boys want to work on anime together hmu! I’m down! Only serious business no greedy weirdos either. I’m doing this because it’s my passion money a come anyways!!! 🤗
