- Hi, Rat fans just wanted to give you an update on my Kayak, after the end of my last run on the River (2nd January 2023) I told you I had a problem. Well, it turned out to be bigger than I thought.

Hi George, sorry to hear about the fate of your first Itiwit X500. Sounds like you did everything reasonable to try and diagnose and repair. Unfortunate with this fault, whatever it was - as you say, that sounds highly unusual, first I've heard of this, so definitely a bit of bad luck there. I can understand the sadness and that a particular kayak might feel special. But I'm sure you'll remember it fondly and make many new great memories in River Rat II or whatever the new yak might be called! Best wishes.

Cheers Patrik for your support and idea about contacting DECATHLON, to be honest it really didn't cross my mind lol But have to say they were amazingly helpful and the customer service is second to none in my opinion. Also like you I have never heard of anyone having such an issue with the X500
Rotten luck, but I'm glad Decathlon stepped up and did the right thing.
The one thing that worries me with these boats is that you inevitably get sand or grit into the boat, and once you deflate it there's nothing stopping that from working its way between the deck and the top of the inflatable chambers. I could quite imagine a small sharp stone getting in there and being forced through the material.
May be but I have to say I think my problem was a one in a million chance, as I have never heard of anyone having such an issue with the X500.
Funnily enough I'm making a video about puncture repairs and leaks at the moment, just waiting for the glues to cure.
Would be interesting to know what the problem was, maybe the keel seam, something that can't be fixed DIY. Glad you're getting a new boat.
If you don't want to use permanent marker on River Rat II you could always try decals, that's how I put sharks teeth on my other boat
The decals are a good idea But already done the name in marker, however not drawn a picture of a rat on the back yet like my first one, so have to look for a decal Cheers... I was thinking the same thing about the leak has to be in a part of the boat they can't reach. Cheers mate looking forward to seeing your video and I hope you don't have any problems.

You won't be disappointed with anything you get from Decathlon as there is a 2 year warranty on just about everything. 👍
Hi, just stumbled on your video concerning the leakage in your Itiwit 500. i found the otherday a video from a german paddler who had a leakage just at the side of the hull horizontally where you can see that two "sheets" of material are glued together. The owner thinks that it´s at the folding area. Sorry for my English! All the best with your new x500. Bernie
Thank you for the information. Much appreciated. However, as it happens I did get it sorted, well that is to say Decathlon sent me a new Kayak. However, I have sold that now and upgraded to a hard-shell kayak the PakAyaK.
I looked at buying one of these kayak's but the disadvantages over my Ridgid kayak were too great. Thumbs up to you channel always good viewing

I have to ask apart from the time for setting it up and packing away, what other disadvantages did you find.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT I use my kayak in rocky area's which would puncture an inflatable. I also feel bracing in a rigid boat is better. I used to work as a mould and pattern maker and I built my son at university a sea kayak that comes apart in 3 section's that he could store in the cupboard of his students digs.

If the hole is in the floor, you can try using tubeless tire fluid. Latex based. For example, produced by Schwalbe.
Thanks but turned out to be more serious but as it comes with a two-year warranty they're simply sent me a new one
@@THE-RIVER-RATA warranty is a good thing. I got into my single itiwit 500 today for the first time. I really liked it. The stability is quite good. But I didn't like that the back of the seat is under the curb, and the curb rubs the back a little. Does it not bother you? Maybe this can be improved?!
Decathlon is a company that always steps to their customers.
I had a problem with Kayak in Slovenia, I proboably overinflated it. When I was in vacation in Croatia, I took it back to the store there and they gave me money back right away. Didnt even look at what was wrong. Then they gave me extra discount for a better model, because they didnt have same kayak in store.
At the end I got better kayak and apology for the same price. Couldnt be better solved.
Glad it all worked out for you. And it's great to hear another story just on how good decathlon customer service is.
Sorry you're without your rat. Love to know what happened. Must have been a manufacturing fault. Decathlon have been amazing. I've heard so many tales of people with other boats losing literally thousands. Good for Decathlon. Hope you are soon back out on the water.
Thanks and yes back on the river again. My latest paddle will be posted tomorrow and have to say it's a long one but a good one.

Thanks for the tip. But it turned out to be the stitching around the inside of the valve, so decathlon give me a new kayak.

Ein loch bringt gleich dein ganzes Boot um ?! Kalt Galvaniesieren , die Seiten gleich mt langem Gummistreifen und den Unterboden auch Kaltgalvanisieren , wie an Tauchanzügen , genau das selbe Verfahren den Untergrund mit einer Gummimatte zuschneiden und Galvaniesiert aufbringen und das selbe mit den Seiten machen , so kannst Du sogar eine Steueranlage selber anbringen gib den Boot eine kleine Chance es ist sehr gut im kompackten . !!! cool friend ASP installieren !
