Couldn’t agree more as long as your having fun (and your safe)on the water that’s all that matters 👍
Cheers buddy 👍
If they don’t like your videos then don’t watch them simple Keep up the good work George 👍
Thanks 👍 mate
Be nice to the cows George! Of course they are surprised to see so many kayakers at once! Hadn't heard the canoe song before. Nice that you got the rain post-paddle instead of mid-recording on the water 😂
I wish I had the video turned on when I was near the cows because they were going crazy that's why I moved a bit further up before speaking to the camera. Glad you liked it buddy 👍 yes only just got home and the heavens opened and it was coming down bloody heavy, perfect timing for once.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Hehe. Most a-moo-sing.
@@AirOnTheWater lol
As much as I like paddling by myself, it’s always better with others
Well no offence to Bobby who is a nice bloke. But I disagree. However, I have always been a loner who prefers there own company. But you will see him again on the river with us at some point.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT haha got it 😂
Cracking video George with great music 👍
Thanks glad you enjoyed it 👍
1:17 Nobody has permission to use that slipway now. Health and safety . They have got us both ways. Damaging flood defence. And health and safety. If you don't come under damaging flood defence they get you with health and safety.
The health and safety manager told me they don't mind if kayaks or paddle board use that slipway. However Motorboats such as jet skis are completely banned.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT here is the reply I got from the environmental agency when I asked about permission to use the slipway. Hi Tim The Hull & Humber Asset Performance Team have advised the following: I believe there has been a slight misinterpretation of the signage on-site at the slipway which simply reads “No Unauthorised Access” We have stopped the use of the EA land and slipway for two main reasons:- The bank is actually a flood defence embankment protecting local homes and businesses from flooding and has been damaged by many vehicles driving onto it either for parking or with boats on trailers for launching. We have a duty to protect all our flood risk assets and keep them to their required specification, that’s why the bollards and barrier have been reinstated. The second reason is that we have a duty to protect people from harm on all our assets and carry out Public Safety Risk assessments on them. The PSRA Inspection highlighted that we have no way of knowing who is using the slipway and how competent people are. We are not resourced or funded to manage who is using the slipway to ensure they are competent and using it safely and the EA is unable to carry the risk of somebody having an accident using our land/slipway so the decision was made to prevent access to all users. Unfortunately, for these reasons we will not be issuing any authorisations to any individuals to use the land and/or slipway. Lovely to see you out, but still so disappointed you didn't get your Scottish trip.
Already planning another. Cheers buddy
😂 hahaha 😂 suits us at the moment. We're in France and short on data so I haven't been able to watch your videos 😢 We brought our kayak here, it has been interesting! Thanks for the laugh 😂
Thanks, Hope you're having a great time. Some beautiful spots over there for kayaking.
@THE-RIVER-RAT there are. The only problem is that most of the rivers we encountered can only be paddled one way. Still managed some lovely outings and paddled on the Dordogne and the Lazere but had to hire kayaks as current too strong to paddle upstream.
😂
11 seconds? Really? Don't you think you could have been more efficient and shaved it down to 9 or at least 10? Time is money! 😏😂
Haha ok 8 seconds next time 🙂
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Good plan!
Was looking forward to another vid then George!. So they are sat there watching your video with remote in hand. There's a fast forward button or even a stop button but would rather slag the length of your video ? Block em George.😂
lol Good idea 💡
Oh no. Not good at all. Gutted you never got on the water... more gutted that the Scottish facility couldn't provide the info for paddlers.
Cheers buddy, however I still love Scotland and I'm already planning another trip, but this time I'm going to make bloody sure I have a place to park for a few days. In fact I have already checked out one place but they wanted to charge me £60 a night just for parking, so that's out But I will find somewhere.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT I'm sure parking at Milarrochy bay car park is free. There are toilets there too. Also I'm sure you can park over night. Check out that one. Is on the east side of the Loch and the islands are more accessible from that launch point.
@@JamesFleming888 Thanks James, I will check it out. Cheers buddy.. Yum yum

I agree about the paddle stance and technique, and really gear and everything else being irrelevant. The important thing is that you have access to ice cream in connection with your paddling trip!
Agree 👍 I forgot to mention that mobile ice cream shops should be able to track you and be there at a moments notice lol
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Yes, I was thinking that! After all the times you've pointed out that I forgot this and then you forget! 😂
Good flyover :) Weird with the cold you guys have! I would have expected this weather to be over here rather than there.. but at least we had some crazy consecutive days of hail, rain and thunder in the past week.
The way it's going I think I'm going to be in a dry suit all year. Can't remember ever having to put the big gloves on in June.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Yeah, that's rough. If it's any consolation, before this unusually early warm spell we had a massively cold winter and spring. Unusually so with almost no access to water even at sea in January-February.
@@AirOnTheWater I remember your winter/spring, perhaps you should buy a snowboard for next year, just in case Hehe 😀
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Hehe, not such a bad idea! Come to think of it, I have a SUP, should do nicely without the fin...
That'll work 😃
Loving the watch, eh? 😀
Lol
Good to see you on the water again!
Shame your holiday got cut short bud. I'd of stuck around or driven and found another spot. Plan C lol
Easier said than done after being up for 48 hours and finding out your plan B was out because of road closure due to flooding which makes one wonder if you just drive around you could end up driving for hours and hours before you find a spot. And that's when people fall asleep at the wheel. I may be disappointed but I know I made the right choice. 👍
Hi, I have the sf530 with wireless mic which isn’t good for my needs. Having trouble finding which wired mic I can buy. Would anyone here know? Thanks
Any that fits the jack on the cam will work. Hope this helps.
@@THE-RIVER-RATthanks man, is it micro usb?
Really sorry to see this, my friend. So frustrating and unfortunate with the absence of information on signage and online! It's not like you didn't do your research either - I was really impressed by your early video with the Google overview of the site, route and so on. Lots of prep work, anticipation and buildup and then these obstacles get in your way. I'm guessing we're a lot of paddlers that feel your pain. After 6+ hours of driving that is a really unfair situation. Hope you get your redemption with an amazing paddle in the future. Thanks for sharing this transparently as it might help/inspire other paddlers avoid a similar situation. Wish you the best for the next trip, wherever that is.
Thanks, Patrick for them kind words, yes a hell of a lot of preparation went into this trip But just like we often say in our videos you never know what could happen, and in a way, this goes to show that (sort of) If I wasn't so tied and frustrated I know if I had just kept going I would have found a spot somewhere. However, I didn't feel like driving for maybe hours just in case things didn't work out. Next time I will be booking a campsite just so I have somewhere to leave the car, but the only issue with that is they are very expensive up there because I did look into that a few months ago but it would have cost around £100 a night and as the plan was for a week or more on the water, so no way. As it happens today I looked at a different way around, by leaving the car in Glasgow in a safe place and getting a Taxi to the loch for £80 something else to think about. I'm going out for a paddle tomorrow even though the forecast is rain because I'm so annoyed about this and thought if I don't get back on the way straight away it will build up and could even put me off paddling for a while. As they say, if you fall off your bike get straight back on it lol
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Yes, getting back on the bike is probably a good idea! From a safety standpoint it would seem you made a wise choice as getting out on the loch water after lack of sleep and all that stress could have ended badly as well. Unfortunate that it turned out to be this difficult. Hope next time works out well and that you also get some great closer-to-home paddles as partial compensation soon.
@@AirOnTheWater Thanks mate.
Gutted for you George ! reminded me of when I planned to do the 3 lake challenge ( won’t go into details) but it didn’t go as planned you have to love the kayak gods 🤣
Thanks buddy, and sorry your plan's fell apart too. Yes them bloody kayak gods like to have their jokes lol
I took a 1400m/2200km trip from Boston to the Florida Keys, to be met with hurricane force winds when I got there. I still haven't paddled the Keys!😁
Bloody weather hates Paddlers. I went to the Keys about 40 years ago on a holiday and the one thing I remember is it rained a lot (small world)
Sorry to hear about the trip not working out! I always consider the first time to a new area as research trip, so even crap outs are considered a success. Chin up, better luck next time! 🛶🤠 You'll still be able to put the gear to use now that you have it, more adventures to come. 😀
Cheers mate, and yes nothing will waste, in fact I had one of my camping ready meals for my dinner tonight lol. Yes next time I'm going to book a camp spot then at least I know I will have a car parking spot. 👍👍
Could have launched from blamaha i know a lot of kayakers who launch from there almost every monday with no hastle or you could have drove up the a82 to tarbert and parked there and also easy launch , or if your stuck just nip up to lochearn pay for fishing permit and it covers you for camping wheather you fish or not basically the same at loch chon or loch ard , hopefully you manage to return george all the best ... colin. 🏴👍🏻🛶
I could have launched from the moon if I knew about it before hand. Information beforehand is a wonderful thing but absolutely bloody useless when you don't know about those places. However now I will know for next time
@@THE-RIVER-RAT true but i did mention to you about a month ago to try Balmaha 🤷♂️🤔🤣
@@ccwweeman3385 lol yes you did.. But as it happens it wouldn't have been any good I did some checking yesterday because I thought I would go there next time. However, you're not allowed to park overnight and you have to pay for parking and if you're not back by 1600 you get a £100 fine So that spot is not good for me as I was planning to camp on the loch for a few days. But the other spot you mentioned (tarbert) looks like it could be ok, just have to find out how much it would cost to leave the car there for a week. One way or another I will find something for next time. Cheers matey.👍
All that way! could hear the disappointment George.. I think the tiredness got the better of you! Good kip, and you'd have found something somewhere !. Never mind mate.
Still annoyed but shit happens. Maybe better luck next time 🤞
Aaagh, what am I going to watch on UA-cam! That is utterly maddening, but hopefully you will get away soon. I have just booked a campsite to take the x500 to West Donegal later this summer, hope that comes off.
You should be fine as you did it the right way. Yes, next time I will book a site.
There's a kayak club in there, they must have some arrangements in place. Get in touch!
I will look in to it thanks 👍
Oh man.. 6.5 hours drive and the gates are closed 😢😢 it kinda reminded me of a movie scene where zombies start running out of nowhere 😂
Class video, look forward to the next 2!. Come in handy if your phone fails with battery trouble or no Internet to help. Great this George 👌
Thanks 👍 glad you liked it
Nice that you've found a good watch and app with GPS functionality (and a major bunch of data there!) at a good price! I've been using a smartwatch for a couple of years and having the GPS track and speed/length from the trip later has been instrumental for my overall paddle log. Also, voice prompts during the trip telling me whenever I've reached another km, average speed and total distance so far has been very helpful. I have a Samsung smartwatch where the kayaking function is garbage with minimal data, but if I set it to biking, it gives me the info I need 🙂 As you say, it can be great to see later where you actually paddled, either to find a nice spot or to identify some tricky passage among a maze of islands. For Scotland, as you say, this should be a worthwhile investment that you'll be glad you made!
Hi Patrik, Yes it's a bloody good time saver (Pun not intended) as I have a great paddle app on my phone but apart from running the battery down it was a pain getting the phone out each time I stopped or if I wanted to check my distance, so I'm glad I found this because as I said I almost sipped it as its a Running watch. Thanks for watching matey.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Same here, used to use my phone, real hassle as you say and also a safety issue as the phone is a safety tool and low battery at the end of the day is not a great situation.
@@AirOnTheWater You're right there and that's another reason why I like this watch the SOS button that sends a text to whomever with my GPS coordinates and a message telling them to send help. Hopefully I will never use it a part from a test every so often.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Indeed!
I find my Garmin with a paddle app invaluable. Speed useful for judging current and navigation has got me back to the harbour in fog. And it automatically keeps a light of my trips. You will love it on your big trip
That's why I wanted Garmin They're the best when it comes to GPS I had one in my truck and never got lost.
Yes please!
Glad you like it, and I guess the yes was for the compass video 👍👍
Definitely yes!
I thought you might like this app, Bobby. and I guess the yes was for the compass video 👍👍
@@THE-RIVER-RAT 🤣 absolutely right George
We have the "Canua" App in German which has a direct connection to a cloud-based log book. It's cool but still as a lot of bugs. I track my kayak tours with my smartphone and just upload the track.
The compass video would be great 👍
Thanks, I will get on it.
Good music in this one! Didn't realize "Africa" works nicely on the water. If any consolation re the weather, my recent trip on Sweden's second largest lake had warm weather (almost too warm in a t-shirt) turn into windy and hard work (almost too cold in a paddle jacket with hood) in 30 minutes! All in all, it's been unusually warm here though, admittedly. Glad the Pakayak issue was solved! Didn't realize you had a paddle holder on the side of the kayak. Seems convenient when it doesn't stop holding the paddle 🙂
I figured out why the paddle jumped off once or twice there was a big branch behind me in the water that was moving backwards and forwards with the current and it was catching the back of my paddle and knocking it off Haha. Yes it's always a good idea to carry more gear than what you actually need just in case. Thanks for watching Patrik, I'm glad you like the music.
I find a GPS watch invaluable when I paddle. Mine is a Fenix 5, which was already out of date when I bought it. It still works well and is bombproof. Along with the Dozen Paddle Data Field it gives me useful data. Speed is extremely handy for judging tide, flow, time to next destination. No substitute for a chart, but it has saved the day when weather closed in. It also gives me a logbook of my trips which I can annotate.
Have to agree with you, can't beat a map and compass, but for the other stuff it's great. I'm just doing a review of the app as I'm so impressed with it, having a video record of your route will be cool to look back on.
I had a very positive customer service experience with Pakayak as well. A seam in my bag started to give way shortly after I purchased it. I sent an email with pics and they sent me a brand new replacement immediately. Super service. I'm going into my second season, I've dragged it up and down the east coast here in the States, and seals and hinges are all still in great condition. Tight as a drum. I'm glad you're enjoying yours. I enjoy your videos, thanks!
Thank you for watching and glad you liked it. Yes, the PakAyaK is an awesome boat and the PakAyaK team are great, with great customer service, as you found out.
What a song I love 80s music
Me too, Glad you liked it.
I thought that yesterday! But when I got back they were 3 other cars parked up! So kayak n paddleboards must be ok 👍. Hope your watch works well nice vid George.
Yes kayaks and SUP's are fine to launch from there. Yes the Kayak app is awesome, it gives you every bit of info you want from time taken to distance and how many stokes and a video map of your paddle and a hell of a lot more. So I will be doing a review in a day or two, because I'm sure someone will want one. The best bit is you don't even have to have your phone on.
@@THE-RIVER-RAT does the app come with the phone? Sounds like a subscribing app to have this much info.

You should run out and buy a lottery ticket with timing like that you can't miss. Thanks buddy, yes after receiving numerous insulting messages I thought I'm going to say something in the hopes that if anybody else gets embarrassed by this problem may take a small bit of comfort in knowing that they're not alone.
I understand and appreciate what you are saying. I was diagnosed on the spectrum at the age of 51. I hid from the world. I hit depression. I had to face the reality that to heal started with me.. I started my channel early this year doing what I always wanted! I now support families with autistic children. Thank you for opening up 😁
Hello and thank you for your kind words. Just like you I hid my problem and learned lots of tricks how to make sure no one found out. But then I thought why should I be embarrassed I'm great at other things and it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I wish you well on your journey and your channel, and you have my respect. I just remembered I watched your video when you tested the Coleman Cobra tent in the mud, that was a great video 👍
Too right! You can drive a HGV, that takes skill. I struggle to parallel park my car! I think it’s good that you have done a video like this. Certain people have no consideration for others, they don’t stop and think. Like you said there are more considerate, polite ways to put a point across. I made a polite point about my condition in my first video made, then it’s in my “about” section on my account.
@@LH-70 You are right about some people having no consideration for others and you not not believe some comments I have had about spelling mistakes, so if my video helps to point this out and give people an understanding that they are not alone who are still embarrassed and perhaps have been bullied then that's good enough for me. As for your parking I'm sure it's not to bad But as they say practice practice practice x
Good for you - well said. Thanks for sharing this, you make some great points and I learnt something new. These sorts of trolls are sadly lacking something in their lives and aren't worth getting bothered about but it's harder for some younger people to realise this.
Thanks much appreciated 👍 that's why I decided to post this video in the hope it may help others or at least let them know they're not alone.
I’m ok with words and spelling but I’m number dyslexic
That's the thing buddy where not all perfect and some people are better at somethings than others, just like numbers as for me I may have trouble spelling Numbers but I'm pretty good at using them. I always say the world would be a bloody strange place if everyone was the same Especially if everyone looked like me lol
Thank you for sharing your personal experience openly and transparently, George, and shedding light on this important topic where more awareness and understanding is always needed. Generally on the Internet, people being considerate is sadly not always the standard. Interesting to hear about the "learning patterns" trick using a keyboard. That makes sense. I call it "muscle memory" when it comes to some things that aren't spelling as well, like putting in a PIN code for example and kind of remembering the movement of the fingers before actually remembering the code. About the video with all the text you mentioned, thanks for openly pointing out your experience - it was an eye-opener and while I still need to include a bit of text every once in a while (when recording voice isn't a great option), I'll be trying to avoid the "massive text" thing. You weren't the only one who made a note of it 😎 Cheers and best wishes!
Glad you found this interesting Patrik and yes it's muscle memory indeed, as it happens that's how I remember how to spell your name. As I say I do get a lot of comments that are very rude but for me it's just water off a duck's back. However this time I thought No I'm going to say something and hopefully it may just help or give a boost to someone who is still embarrassed about having this problem. As for your videos, you dont have to change anything my friend there great, and if some of us have to take more time to read what you have written that ok I think of it as practice. BUT If you ever make a 5-hour long video with writing all the way through it I will send Ninjas after you 🥷🥷🥷
@@THE-RIVER-RAT Hahaha. If I ever see a team of ninjas climbing in through my balcony I'll know where I went wrong 😂 And yes, I think it's quite important to shed light on topics like these, so well done.
@@AirOnTheWater Thank you Patrik very nice of you to say.
There are just rude trolls out there. You do you. Still flying?
Very True. I still have planes and some Drones and even a few Helicopter's But I don't really use them anymore now (Old eyes lol)
