  • It's a new week and I start two new projects.
    The Dragon 1/72 scale Saturn V and the AMT AMTronic concept car.
    A car and a real space model? What could possible go wrong?

    Plastic kits have always errors. I recommend Real Space Models drawings of this Rocket.

    Boy, am I late to this party.
    Lou, for all those fill-drain fairings on the S-II and S-1C Forward Interstage, I used my completed Airfix Apollo-Saturn V to locate those parts. I drilled out the holes that were indicated by indentations, and had to fill some that weren't used. Others, I cut off the locator pins and cemented them on by Mk. 1 eyeball.
    For certain omitted details, I ordered parts from Shapeways. I didn't go nuts, just bought up things that, to me, were small but glaring.

    Thanks for the heads up, Saturn V is paid for and on the way, didn't know about the issues. Decals got, you should get commisions for that kind of thing.

    Very cool new projects, I have the Dragon Saturn V in the stash so thank you for directing me to the decals. I also have the very old second issue of the Large Revell Saturn V kit. I'm really digging your work on the Concept AMTronic car. Cheers.

    Oh I got a great idea how to display that Saturn 5 , Assuming that it has nicely detailed engines and upper bulk heads I would do it like you might see in an exploded view diagram with 2" between each stage. Then I would display a fully stacked smaller S5 model to left of it and the 1/32 scale (monogram?) Apollo capsule with Service module to the right.... Just a thought.

    Thanks Lou, I love your videos. They're an inspiration for me to go build something.

    I have that AMTronic car kit too. My plan is to build it up using the Star Car from Last Starfighter as inspiration. If you offer the paint masks, I'll get a set!For the rocket, maybe adding magnets to the stages will help keep it as stable as possible.

    The cheap AMT Saturn Five is the same. I went here for help, but to my surprise you’re having trouble also.I don’t know why they do this🤷‍♂️

    OMG Lou I nearly spit my coffee at the ever so slight sarcastic tone in your voice at their comment that "actual lunar module is not transparent." Thanks for the laugh and the thoughtful work.

    Love your review on this GIANT Saturn V kit. It is gorgeous but, it is humongous!!! Ha ha. I'm working on the Revell (Germany) 1:144 kit now and that was is pretty large. I am buying some custom F-1 engines for it through Shapeways.com though because, the factory kit engines are severely lacking in detail.
    Great job on your kits! I can't wait to see your finished Apollo!

    First...this rocket was Loued...sprued...and glued.....(ha haaa, made ya verb there Loucif). Second...I suggest that you (DO IT!)...scratch build a gantry in...'stages'....make a build series outta it...of course not all at once, just a section here and a stage there and make it as plain or complicated as you will...I think as a fans and subscribers we would love, love, love to see you tackle this project to challenge your technical and artist abilities and make an interesting series...spanning say 6 months to a year, and also turning this giant tube of plastic into something Extra Special and Unique. Come on....Come on doit!...DOIT!...DOIT NOW!...Come on...BUILD ME! I'm Here!...BUILD ME!!...I'M HERE!!! BUILD ME!!...BUILD ME!!!...I'M HERE!!! a little movie lingo encouragement for ya Loucif. Everyone who reads this far and agrees....please encourage our friend to dooo iiit!

    Lou, do you have or could you have a mask set for the Revell 1/96 Saturn V kit ? I have one I want to build and having mask would make it oh so much better. Would love to buy such a thing if you have them.

    Hey Lou…There are a some questions that are giving me fits as a modeler - would you have any approach that would be helpful (or to anyone reading):
    1. How do you cut neat windows on the AMT USS Enterprise D Saucer Section? - I have tried melting, picking, and all other forms and I just can’t get neatly formed windows…
    2. How do you motorize the engines on the AMT USS Voyager?...Ive seen this done once…has something to do with micro stepper motors from RC cars…
    3. How to you motorize the landing ramp on the AMT Millennium Falcon?again…am seeing this more and it has something to do with micro stepper motors from RC cars…
    4. How to you “pipe” in vapor exhaust AMT Millennium Falcon? Thought this was a neat trick…as seen in the cloud city landing scene in ESB…
    Any thoughts or a point in the direction of someone who knows and would be willing to share would be great!

      David,
      you are way above my pay grade on these questions. you need a professional special effects guy. I just throw paint at plastic and hope it sticks.

    That's a massive kit Lou! It's a shame about the poor design and instructions, I hope their upcoming real space kits will have a better design!

    I have a Saturn V on my to do pile and you have my sympathies over the poor design
    I bought some resin parts to replace the ribbed sections as they are apparently wrong but the good part is the resin has spaces marked out for the external parts

    Hey Lou, Isn't the ring between stage 1 and 2 removable (as in the original 1:1 rocket), which allows all the detail of the engines of the 2nd stage fully visable?
    I know thats how I made my 1:96 Revell model of the Saturn V

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  6 років тому

      ring BETWEEN stage 1 and 2? nobody told me there was a ring. in the instructions and on the box, the stages are pretty well defined and i've glued them together in complete stages.

    • @BNTmodels
      @BNTmodels 6 років тому

      Yes, check www.reddit.com/r/space/comments/3jdhc6/construction_of_saturn_v/
      There is an interstage ring between first and second which is not connected, in the famous in-flight video from nasa you see this ring ejected right after the 1st stage drops back to earth and before the engines of the secend stage ignite.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  6 років тому +1

      by jove, you are correct sir. I know that video well. unfortunately, i will not be able to recreate that as my ring is rather firmly glued in place. ah well...

    Who doesn't love a big ole Saturn V? Interesting troubles you've encountered and bested. Isn't that AMTronic designed by Syd Meade? I recall drooling over that as a kid, but my hard-as-nails mother gave me the big "no" as it cost more than a dollar.
    If that is Mr. Mead's handiwork, one can see the relationship to the Spinner. One can also guess that Mr. Mead doesn't mind his passengers playing kneesies or toesies.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  6 років тому +1

      Eliot, I've scoured the box and the only name i see on the art is Greer.

    • @MrChief101
      @MrChief101 6 років тому +2

      Oh no; I meant the model designer. Futurist and sci-fi designer legend. Helluva guy, just recently got his movie design book. He's been a lot busier than I would have believed (he can't be cheap!). But before all that, he used to be an industrial designer. One project that was built, for example, was a luxury yacht for a Saudi prince! Now where the car came from or what it was for is a mystery. He did work with Raymond Loewy on the Avanti automobile. He also did concept work for GM at the 64 World's Fair. A serious dude.

      I love me some Mead, I have a couple of his art books. but this is more mead-iochre than mead, i'm afraid

    Hey Lou! I admire your courage in tackling the Saturn V in 1/72. It's a mighty beast. Kind sucks though that Dragon dropped the ball as far as the instructions go. I made their kit of the Command Module/ Lunar Lander and thought it went together pretty well. The only lacking was in their colour call-outs. The LM is most definitely not silver, gold and black. Here's a great reference that I found that may be of help to you.

    p.s. Can't wait to see what you do with the AMTronic. Is it going to get a thorough Aztecing on the outside to go with the interior style?

    Dude, you needed to do your homework about this Saturn V rocket before you build it. You should have look at real pictures of the Saturn V so this way you would know where all of the little parts go. I was warn in advance this is a poorly made kit from the get go. Your video prove that. There's a guy I know who is also on Facebook who has a 3d printing makes the Saturn V kit better quality and detailing. He can make the kit in just about any scale you want it in except 1/12 ,1/6 or 1/1. Thats too large for his 3d printer to make.
