Hi guys👋, just to clarify. The council takes place in the year 101 AC. Rhaenyra was already born by that time. Aemma was pregnant with one of her children that didn't ended up surviving. Plus, between the Council and when Viserys becomes king two years pass, as the old king dies in 103 AC. The line of text specified that the rest of the episode takes place "during king Viserys's tenth year as king" but that didn't necessarily mean 10 years have passed between the first scene and the rest of the episode as it turns out. Thus, Rhaenyra is 14 in episode 1. Hope this helped👋😅

OMG guys!!! You don't know how happy I am to be able to see you react to this masterpiece! As a self-proclaimed expert of the ASOIAF universe let me share with you some info about this episode and the story in general that you might find helpful or just interesting : 1) Let's start with the Targaryen family tree, which can be pretty complex to remember, especially at this point of the story, and some general info on the first scene. The old king you see in the council at the beginning is King Jaehaerys I, fourth king of the Targaryen dinasty in Westeros. My Goat became king at age 14, after the death of his rebellious uncle King Maegor, that had taken the throne by force, and ruled over Westeros for 55 years of prosperity alongside his sister/wife Alysanne. Unfortunately tho of the 13 kids he had only 2 ended up surviving their parents but they couldn't become heirs since one was a maester (that can't hold tytles) and the other one was a banished princess. The deaths of his two eldest sons and heirs in rapid succession is what made the succession an issue. The council of 101 AC that we see open the show was to determine who would become the new heir between the children of those two sons : Rhaenys (only daughter of the first son) and Viserys (eldest son of the second son). So yeah, Viserys and Daemon are first cousins of Rhaenys. As they are with Viserys's wife, Aemma Arryn. She was the daughter of another of the old King's daughters so that's why she had the signature Targaryen features. Basically, the Targaryens that are left after this episode are 4 : Viserys, Daemon, Rhaenys and Rhaenyra. 2)Now we talk about the Hightowers. They are one of the most prominent Houses of the Reach and their seat, Old Town, is the center of the kingdom's primary religion, the Faith of the Seven. Otto is the younger brother of Lord Hightower and he is the Hand of the King. His daughter Alicent grew up with Rhaenyra and the two are great friends. 3)The other most important house of this period is house Velaryon. Velaryons are another house that came from the Valyrian Empire, just like the Targaryens, but unlike them, they are not dragon riders. This is why they still have the signature hair of the Valyrian. In this period they are the wealthiest house in the realm, mostly because of their lord, Corlys Velaryon. Corlys is known as one of the most legendary sailors in the whole story and his many travels made him the richest man in the kingdom. Corlys is married with Rhaenys Targaryen and they have two children : a daughter (Laena) and a son (Laenor) that you briefly see watching the tournament. Now that we talked about the three most important families, I'll delve into some smaller details about the episode : 1)The two dragons we see in the episode are my girl Syrax (Rhaenyra's) and my boy Caraxes (Daemon's) nicknamed The Blood Wyrm. Syrax is around the same age as Rhaenyra and she was her first rider. Caraxes is around fifty/sixty years old at this point and a total menace, Daemon is actually his second rider. His first rider, Aemond Targaryen was Rhaenys's father. 2)Viserys named his son Baelor in the episode. That was actually the name of Viserys's father. 3)At this period of the story the realm has been mostly at peace for almost 70 years, something unheard of before this point, so thanks to that events like this episode's tourney can more easily turn bloody due to years of repressed violence and a lack of chances for men to prove themselves in combat. 4)The timeline of the story is divided between before the Conquest (BC) and after the Conquest (AC). The Conquest is referring to when Aegon I Targaryen the Conqueror conquered Six of the Seven kingdoms and started the Targaryen's reign of Westeros. The council in the opening is called the Council of 101 because it took place in the year 101 AC. Viserys became king in 103 AC and this episode takes place ten years into his reign, so in 113 AC. 5)Lastly, the huge skull of a dragon in one of the last scenes is the skull of Balerion nicknamed the Black Dread, mount of the Conqueror and the mightyest dragon the Targaryen ever owned after they left Valyria. Viserys was actually his last rider, as he claimed it in his youth when Balerion was already centuries old and he died just a couple of years later of old age. Balerion was the last living being to have been alive before Valyria collapsed. Thanks for reading my comment, I'll be around for more in the other episodes. Feel free to comment if you found some mistakes.😅 Bye👋

(You should probably learn a bit about Targaryen traditions beforehand, just in case... or just watch Game of Thrones as soon as you can, just DON'T get spoiled, guys!!)
The dialogue here is so amazing. Between Otto, Viserys and Daemon it's so engrossing. Which is even more impressive than early GOT since unlike it that had the source material to aid it for half the show HOTD is all based on basically a summary. Barely any line to actually pick, for the most part it was just a series of events told from varied prospectives. And it somehow works just as good.
Glad to see you guys starting this show! The parseltongue and Scar comments had me rolling🤣 but it was nice to see you slowly start to enjoy it. Feel bad for Carter with the gore. If LOTR is Fantasy then ASOIAF is Dark Fantasy so be prepared for more of that. But yeah the dialogue with Viserys/Daemon/Rhaenyra at the end was great I agree. And if you love this y’all will want to watch GoT for sure.
This is such a good show. There are so many details in each scene. Take for example Rhaenyra's introduction at the Dragonpit. It conveys all the present characters personalities effortlessly and efficiently. It's so clear the young dragon keeper is a novice and his mentor is showing him the ropes and encouraging him. All without any dialogue, just the way they move and look at each other. And the entire time Alicent and Rhaenyra are talking Syrax is not taking her eyes off Rhaenyra until she is told to go as if to make sure she is fine. Goated show in every way, even compared to early GOT it holds up.
You guys are a new find for me . Soooooo I just started watching your GOT 1x1 and I had to stop because you said you watched HOD first! I don’t understand why? But I have to start here. Because it is where you started. You guys better get through GOT FAST ! But I am looking forward to this!
Also, interesting fact that was never done neither in GoT nor in HOTD so its not really a spoiler, Targaryens have purple eyes. The most popular shades were always lilac, indigo or violet. Their practice of incest was kept in part to preserve their rare coloring and ofc white hair. It was quite troublesome in the books especially when a member of the family was trying to stay undercover. The reason for cutting Targaryens purple eyes in both shows was a 'practical decision'. The GoT creators (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) said in s1 DVD commentary that purple contact lenses were too distracting and CGI options were too complicated so they didn't do it. Needles to say it was disappointing for book fans 🥲 what a pity, it would look really cool to see it on the screen...especially knowing that they could really experiment with different shades and try to pick the best option.
@@izattyu6863 yeah, they could have done what they did for Yennefer in the witcher. A mixture of contacts and CGI. Her eyes always look pretty decent, IMO.
Yes you're right. Rhaenyra is 14 in this ep. Her mother was pregnant at the great council with one of the her many failed pregnancies. Rhaenyra would have been a young child during this time.
about the discussion how old rheneara is, it was indeed 9 years later, but the queen at that time was not pregnant with rheneara. Rheneara was already born and the queen was pregnant with one of the children that got miscarried. rheneara is 14 years old in this episode
the reason targaryens marry each other is to keep the bloodline pure and to keep the valyrian blood (valyria is where they are from) alive so they can keep having dragons the more targ babies that are born the more dragons they will have, hope yall continue!! and maybe game of thrones next!! i already have a feeling what team yall will be on!
I’m so excited you guys are on top of this. Didn’t like it as much as GoT because the scope isn’t quite so large, but the benefit of telling a smaller story is that the loose ends are easier to tie up in the end. 🐉
min 35:50 They never say it has been a 9 year gap xD in the first scene, Aemma is pregnant with Rhaenyra (the main actress). So we start 16-20 years after the Council we see at the start and Viserys is 4 years into the reign.
I would love if you watched Game of Thrones after that omg the best reaction ever with all of you! Good luck with House of the Dragon you’ll love it ♥️

I learned about the GOT books through the show and I’m half way through the first book rn and the show helps put the world into perspective for people who struggle to understand the world’s geography. As a self-proclaimed expert of the ASOIAF universe let me share with you some info about this episode and the story in general that you might find helpful or just interesting :
1) Let's start with the Targaryen family tree, which can be pretty complex to remember, especially at this point of the story, and some general info on the first scene.
The council of 101 AC that we see open the show was to determine who would become the new heir between the children of those two sons :
Rhaenys (only daughter of the first son) and Viserys (eldest son of the second son).
Now that we talked about the three most important families, I'll delve into some smaller details about the episode :
1)The two dragons we see in the episode are my girl Syrax (Rhaenyra's) and my boy Caraxes (Daemon's) nicknamed The Blood Wyrm.
Thanks for reading my comment, I'll be around for more in the other episodes.

the way my mouth DROPPED when i saw this title. as a game of thrones lover ive never been so happy
Welcome to Dance of dragons! Lovin' your reaction so far.
Carter just unlock new nightmare. Poor guy
i can't believe this is happening... holy shit
i havent been this hyped since aot for yalls reactions
This is gonna be exciting to watch, cant wait for your reactions 😊 hopefully you’ll give GOT a chance ❤
Let go man, been waiting for this since a while..
This was the moment Carter, Connor and Brig lost their innocence. 😆
Ok fine I will subscribe haha ... excited for this journey.
We were just in Hawaii, left yesterday! Beautiful place. Welcome!
All the guys will find u but that's the problem😂@@LanaFromHawaii808
You guys are a new find for me . Soooooo I just started watching your GOT 1x1 and I had to stop because you said you watched HOD first! I don’t understand why? But I have to start here. Because it is where you started. You guys better get through GOT FAST ! But I am looking forward to this!
Thanks for the reaction! Excited to watch more!
Yeah. It could have been realistic like Liz Taylor. Subtle.
@@izattyu6863 yeah, they could have done what they did for Yennefer in the witcher. A mixture of contacts and CGI. Her eyes always look pretty decent, IMO.
i would kill to watch this with you boys. im so excited for this series
For a little bit of perspective dragon's in this are essentially equivalent to modern day nuclear weapons.
LETS GOOOOOOO bruh I'm so happy you guys are watching this
OMG! Can't believe you're reacting to this show! Can't wait for the rest of your reactions!
"I love how these dragons listen..." If you only knew lol
23:40 his face, the look lmao
Unexpected but appreciated. Loved this S1. Excited to see y'all's reactions.
Never seen *Game of Thrones!* damn y'alls minds are innocent, so ripe for corrupti.. I mean converting, lol.
😂
Yes you're right. Rhaenyra is 14 in this ep. Her mother was pregnant at the great council with one of the her many failed pregnancies. Rhaenyra would have been a young child during this time.
Studio Gek: An Unexpected Reaction.
about the discussion how old rheneara is, it was indeed 9 years later, but the queen at that time was not pregnant with rheneara. Rheneara was already born and the queen was pregnant with one of the children that got miscarried. rheneara is 14 years old in this episode
omg yesss so excited for this
The King and Queen were first cousins
Carter looked like he was gonna throw up 🤣🤣
Daaaaang two of yall haven't watched GOT? Must reaction! Guaranteed new subscribers in bunches 🙏
Whaaat, Now some GoT content as well? You guys are a gift that keeps on giving.
Just found this and so excited to see it again with you guys. You absolutely need to watch GOT after.
This is gonna be GREAT. Can't wait. New sub
the reason targaryens marry each other is to keep the bloodline pure and to keep the valyrian blood (valyria is where they are from) alive so they can keep having dragons the more targ babies that are born the more dragons they will have, hope yall continue!! and maybe game of thrones next!! i already have a feeling what team yall will be on!
This show is amazing. Can’t wait for season 2
I’m so excited you guys are on top of this. Didn’t like it as much as GoT because the scope isn’t quite so large, but the benefit of telling a smaller story is that the loose ends are easier to tie up in the end. 🐉
25:29 I like how this also applies to Daemon
you guys for sure need to do game of thrones next
I am excited out of my mind about this
Nice! Great series to react to , particularly to get ready for part two
We need that Game of Thrones reaction
i am so ready for this
Milly Alcock was already in her 20s during filming. She just looks pretty young.
min 35:50 They never say it has been a 9 year gap xD in the first scene, Aemma is pregnant with Rhaenyra (the main actress). So we start 16-20 years after the Council we see at the start and Viserys is 4 years into the reign.
I need to hurry up and finish the show so I can watch this with y'all
Been waiting for this
I need episode 2 rn
I would love if you watched Game of Thrones after that omg the best reaction ever with all of you! Good luck with House of the Dragon you’ll love it ♥️
This is crazy! I just finished the avatar reaction sries on y birthday, then the next day this gets dropped online, just a few days after the show aired on Flemish television! I'm getting spoiled...
I love hearing that this is very easy to get into for newbies! Very looking forward to seeing the reactions!
cant say i expected this reaction but im so glad yous are reacting to this and maby got as i love the got universe
So excited! I love this series sooo much!!
Thank you for showing everyone's names. I never remembered who was who.
Great reaction! Would love to see you guys continue with this and GoT.
I love Carter's reactions.
Dear lord, respect for going in so dry. But this is one where a little bit of research makes it more enjoyable lads.
The books are absolute fire also.
Don’t forget to not talk over the dialogue, guys. That can make or break your views. Thnx for the reaction. I’m always scoping out reactions to GOT and HotD and it’s great to find another source.
HEYO FINALLY ONE OF MY FAV SERIES REACTED BY YOU
Just thinking of Carter's future reaction at Game of Thrones intro episode lmao.
The last episode of this season is insane hope you guys continue the series
Omg I love this show🎉glad to rewatch it with yall
You guys ABSOLUTELY need to watch GoT. It has the highest peaks of any show ever created imo.
i think AOT had that spot already
29:00 yep major incest. there's tons of kids. just wait till you see what the fuck happens. the first season was crazy.
I learned about the GOT books through the show and I’m half way through the first book rn and the show helps put the world into perspective for people who struggle to understand the world’s geography. If your interested in the GOT world before the show the audible book “The world of Fire and Ice” explains the kingdoms and people mentioned in the main show in such a detailed way that it shows the clear love for the show. For a history major like myself I can tell this is a passion project because of the history parallels and world building based on real world stuff I just live this show sm!
The feeling these shows give me is yet to be topped. Actual top tier media.
“This guys the king’s yapper.” I know that’s right!
Game of Thrones would be an absolute banger of a series to watch with y'all!
oh wow didn’t see this reaction coming, extremely pleasant surprise
first person Ive seen correctly identify a flail, instant sub my good ser
