Love Reston. But I don’t like how it’s split by the toll road. I wish there were better walk ways & paths connecting Reston south of the toll road to the town center. They need to build more pedestrian bridges.

Reston is awesome, but yes I agree. It would be nice to connect some pedestrian bridges. That could be helpful. Knowing the officials in Reston I’m sure they are working on ways to make it even more connected.

I lived just across the Fairfax County Parkway in Herndon, and worked in Reston about 15 years ago. I still go back semi-regularly, as I have friends there. It was a great place to live (if expensive, even then). I imagine with the Silver Line expansion on the Metro, it's even better. A big part of why I left at the time was that it was so removed from DC if you didn't drive, and I didn't. I was always baffled by how awful the traffic was, however. I mean, traffic in the DMV is ridiculous, anyway, but there's so much great walking and cycling space, yet everyone drove, even when it was just around the corner. I know car-brain is a big problem in the US, but it's usually enforced by anti-pedestrian infrastructure. Reston was great for walking, but it seemed like nobody did it. I wasn't the only person who lived within a 20 minute walk of my job, but I was the only person who didn't drive.
The biggest thing I miss is easy access to the W&OD trail. I used to live just a stone's throw from it. Now, it's a 45 minute trip for me, so I pretty much never get to it.

Great pros/cons list, and I would say very accurate. My wife and I live in an apartment in the RTC for a year now and love this area for all of the reasons you mentioned. Yes, primary con is the housing/rental prices. And while there are a lot of business's in Reston, including many large headquarter's buildings, most are for defense industry and IT-related jobs (Leidos, Peraton, Oracle, CACI, etc.). Not a bad thing, just something to be aware of. And, we actually have two Metro stations now; one near the RTC (west side of town) and one near the east side of town. Lastly, one con is a number of wandering, drug-alcohol using people who can sometimes be disturbing to be near, as they sometimes are intimidating. Mostly around the metro stations and sometimes in the RTC. Thankfully, the RTC has security guards patrolling 24/7, and if one of the vagrants is causing problems for anyone, they will kindly usher them out of the area. Overall, it's a great place to live.
