My mum always was way too kind to those guys in motorcycles with the pizzas. At least I can say that the ‘scam’ here is that they give you a really bad quality pizza which in the best case it is totally tasteless with almost no ingredients at all. They never hurt us or stole anything from us, and honestly I don’t believe that was their intention. The pizza was simply awful and we gave 100 pesos or whatever they asked for it. And this has been the case for at least over 20 years. Your theories sound totally plausible but it has never been the case for us.
Just back from Puerto Escondido: EuropCar at the airport tried to scam me twice. They told me the category of vehicle I had booked was not available but would give an upgrade, obviously if I paid a bit. I did not give up, did not pay and finally got a vehicle of right category. The next nasty moment was upon returning the car. As I had not accepted to buy their extra insurance either, they found some weird water marks on the back seat (I did not use the backseat) and asked me to pay 2500 pesos for the cleaning. Again, I did not agree and started filming the whole incident with my iPhone, ofcourse threatening them of a complaint. I did not have time to argue as I had a plane to catch and I signed the invoice with my credit card. Finally, they only ”stole” a 100 pesos extra. I still need to send a complaint to their HQ. Fortunately, I used to live in CDMX and can argue in Spanish but I am pretty sure those guys scam innocent tourists all the time. Be careful, check the car and take photos or make a video of every detail. Or, buy the insurance they are imposing but that is not fair. Btw Puerto Escondido and especially Huatulco are really fantastic.
I've lived and traveled in Mexico since I was 8 years old and the only scam I encountered in all my years was with a rental car outfit in Puerto Vallarta. They claimed I had damaged the car when I had not. Yes, take fotos of the entire car b4 taking it. Thanks for your story.
I also encountered the pizza sales from a guy on a motorcycle. Interesting he also got aggressive when I politely declined. I just rolled up my window, but I believe he wanted me to argue. My guess is he was planning on distracting me then robbing me. I didn’t engage him.
It seems that you're better off in Mexico using Uber to go everywhere. And yeah, simply don't interact with scammers.
Great video. Thank you for sharing this so we can stay alert.
Also watch out for the gasoline scam where you're at an OXXO or other place that sells gas and are forced to pay an extra 100 pesos. You'll tell the person at the pump the amount of gasoline or price and they'll fill it up to 100 pesos. Then you'll say to them "no, dije que necesito un tanque lleno o dije solo quinientos" and they'll just continue to fill it up and apologize. When you go to pay, they'll say, "oh, you need to pay the extra 100 pesos. I stopped the machine at 100 and the machine price reset to 0 when you said you need more." They may also be aggressive and say that they'll get in trouble or that you're stealing. Therefore, you're scared into paying an extra 100 if you don't argue with them that you saw the machine and that it did not get reset to 0 but instead, continued past 100.
I live in Guadalajara and I've seen the pizza one so many times, especially around Christmas and New Year's.
They're usually from Domino's, Pizza Hut, Benedetti's, big pizza places and they are legitimate workers.
They usually park at Mall parking lots, outside grocery stores, pharmacies, Oxxo, Gas stations, Walmart, wherever there's a continuous flow of people and they tell these stories that the got these pizzas that they couldn't deliver because they never found the address, the customer never opened, nobody was there or something like that, usually they sell the pizzas for less than the usual price and say they are selling them because they can't take them back or they'll be scolded by their bosses or that they just have them and can't do anything about them either way.
I've seen many people purchase pizza from these guys and it's a good deal at the end of the day, they're not in bad shape or anything, I've never done it but I've seen some people buy those pizzas. The thing is that they're not bad pizzas, they're in good condition, not "pirated" nor are they scamming you, the thing is that, just like Jordan said, they're people who are stealing from the businesses, they get the pizzas from the employees and sell them on the street and take advantage of holidays when there are a lot of orders and it's difficult to keep track of what is being sent and they ploy to get extra pizzas, then, near the end of the shift, the delivery people go to these concurred places with their work bikes, tell these stories and try to sell these never-ordered pizzas.
Also, I'm not saying there isn't people out there trying to get information out of you or trying to steal your wallets or belongings by posing as a delivery person, that's also a possibility to a different sort of scam but this is another case scenario that's also sort of common from time to time, FYI.
I have lived here in Queretaro for 3 years now and I have learned to never let your guard down. There are scammers and honest workers out there, you just have to trust your instincts and be aware of your surroundings.
In USA cities I’ve been approached at Gas stations several times by aggressive beggars. They usually have a sad story or say I ran out of gas and don’t have money to get home etc etc.
That's happened to me in Canada as well.
I genuinely ran out of gas one time,I asked for $5 just to be able to get back to my wallet. A Good Samaritan( Mexican gardener) helped me and I offered to cut his hair. He said ,no worries! 😊
And they always claim to be from another state but either have plates from the same state or no plates at all.
My mom got scammed by one of those gypsies in the Us
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I saw a video of pizza workers in Mexico taking slices of pizza out of the trash and putting in their pizza boxes. I didn’t know what was going on then, but now it makes sense.
Thanks for all your informative and helpful videos. I'm visiting Mexico at the end of the month, so will definitely binge watch all your mexican videos!
That’s so funny I was thinking the answer is there is no pizza😅
Another great video. Thank you Jordon from Colorado. 😀
I had the side mirrors stolen off of our car, they tried to sell them back, but my wife said to get out of there. Turns out those mirrors cost $1000 to replace with Chinese replacements.
this is very common in some parts of Mexico... Instead of pizza it is usually cakes... The "cake seller" usually says that he got a big order but out of the blue it was canceled.. so he is trying to sell them at a lower price, etc. It seems to me that it is just a technique for people to buy the items out of pity/sympathy... of course then one sees the guy multiple times telling the same story...
Es lo que le digo al Wey pero solo quiere vistas en su canal.
@@robertharket1439 I think he presented useful information. Of course he wants us to click and watch. That doesn't necessarily discount the quality of the information. There are scams in every country. And sometimes people are really just trying to sell cakes in the parking lot and think the sympathy angle helps.
¿Y tu crees que van a cocinar 5 pizzas o 5 cakes solo para venderlos half price?
Theyre scoping you. They're studying you. Pizza is small money.
@@dianedales234 its not true maybe this guy only wants ur atention (likes) thats bcuz its in mexico he doesnt have a job hes only youtuber
Never a dull moment in Mexico
Thanks for great info
I used to deliver pizzas when I was in college years ago, and quite often, when someone would order a pizza and then not be there to accept the delivery, I would go by the common area of a college dormitory building where people were watching TV, etc. and just announce that I had an extra pizza for sale. I never failed to quickly sell it. I used to think that we (the restaurant) should just make a few pizzas and go by the dorms and sell them. Something about seeing and smelling a hot pizza motivates people to buy it even if they weren't planning to order one. I wonder if what you experienced was just a technique for selling a few more pizzas on a slow day. However, that doesn't excuse being pushy or rude about it. PS - the place I worked was called "Captain Kirk's Pizza" and our motto was "We beam it to you free." :)
I used to live in an apartment complex, and there was a local pizza place that got the bright idea to just send someone to park outside the leasing office (with their permission) and set up a little booth selling some cheap pizzas at the time most people returned home from work. That guy got so much business, it was crazy. Who can resist the convenience of stopping your car just moments from home , dispending a few bucks and having a hot pizza ready to go. genius.
Good morning! I see you're doing great. I haven't watched your channel in a while.
Hi good morning! Thanks for coming back!
I wish I could grow a mustache like Jordan.
Good tips, unfortunately there are always cheats out there
It's rhe same in the US. When someone tries to talk to me that clearly wants money I act like I didn't hear them and keep walking. Works everytime.
testing connection
They're in Mexico City, I actually bought one of their pizzas for $50.00 pesos. It was literal s*** pizza.
It feels like the whole planet is going back in time to feudalism and when traveling going anywhere meant bandits were highly likely to rob and maybe kill you on the way.
Yes, it does!
Not the whole world. Mostly LatAm. There is a reason so many of them cross the border to the US illegally and even risk their lives to do so
I know what you are saying about inconspicuous parts missing from your car.. the cover for the screw that holds the safety handle on the passenger side is missing ..had to be a mechanic ..I NEVER had work done to it ...I'll never find that part for a 2008 car that's been discontinued
We do not use valet parking and if they don't allow us to park our own vehicle, we don't eat there. The restaurant or business doesn't want to take responsibility for anything that is taken, so if they don't allow me to park my own vehicle, then they lose the business. That is their problem. There is NO restaurant or business that is that important to me and many more to choose from. If they are going to use valet parking, then they should guarantee your vehicle is safe--it is their property and employees after all.
Same here, I'm from Mexico City and I refuse to go to places with valet. If you want me to go to your business you must have a parking lot where I can park myself.
Same. I’ve been here almost 20 years, and I may have valeted my car 3 times… each time probably cursing the person who invited me to such an establishment, as well as myself for not having looked up the parking situation before accepting to go there 😂 it’s definitely possible to never valet your car in QRO
The pizza scam has been around for years.. maybe who knows someone did it to me 10 years ago, I know my family had something like that while I was younger maybe 20 years ago lol
Thanks I just moved to Tijuana , good info 👍🏾
How are you finding Tijuana? Has it calmned down there?
@@mexicanspec yeah it’s calm. I’m in the playas area .
@@kingachiever That is good to hear. When the Jalisco Cartel took it over they instituted a curfew and it was rough. They must have moved on now.
@@mexicanspec yeah there’s rumors that Sinaloa cartel is going come up here , not sure how true that is . But it’s been calm so far .
@@kingachiever I doubt the Sinaloa cartel will be going there and challenging the Jalisco cartel.
Yeah the pizza thing happened to me while walking near TEC
We were in Jardines de La Hacienda
I don't know if you have heard that removing the area where your screws are missing is a way of getting into your car computer. Meaning they can open your car without keys and even drive away with your car without your key fob.
Hahaha.... no pizza from a motorcycle and NEVER use valet. Went to a fancy wedding at the Four Seasons in CDMX a week ago and parked for free one block away. Once in Dallas some punk a** valet went on a joy ride on our rental car and scratched it. That was my lesson to avoid them at all cost!
Hi, thank you for the years you have provided us with your videos. I do have a question, has nothing to do with scamming! Wife and I are taking a trip to Mexico very soon. We are only visiting and not applying for residency at this time. We want to go for 1 month spending 1 week at a time in 4 different cities. So, QUESTION, all we need is our passports and hotel itineraries to substantiate our 4 week stay? Correct, or am I missing something here?? Thank you.
Mexico immigration went through a phase of being strict and not giving a lot of visitors the full 180 days. But now, it's back to normal, where almost everyone is getting 180 days. It's highly unlikely that you'll have to show your hotel bookings but in case they ask, that will be good to have. They'll probably ask how long you're going to stay and maybe where you're going, but any additional questions would be unusual.
@@TangerineTravels Thank you so much. I have subscribed and love to watch your videos. Very entertaining and informative. Say Hi to your beautiful girlfriend and maybe we will see you while visiting Queretaro!
Well, I unintentionally avoided both of those by not owning a car.
Mandatory Valet? Which Mexico are you living in, man? Sure as hell it is not mine...
Maybe the boxes are empty.
I go for the 3rd scam option
I have experienced the pizza scam twice XD
Dayum. If it's so bad just move back home. All I hear from ex pats in mexico is scam this, robbery that, corruption this and police bribery that, yet they stay. Are things worse in the US????
Speaking of cars... can you do a video of what to do in Mexico if you're in a collision? How do you report, deal with police and the other people involved, whether it was your fault or not. I heard the police take both people to jail and sort out the details later, is that true?
You call your insurance carrier, someone comes to the scene of the accident, and it's worked out on the spot. If someone is killed or severely injured, it's another matter.
i have confronted this guys, my guess is that they operete some sort of dark kitchen and thats the way they sell it, by the way i did fell for it, pizza is super shitty, same city
Not sure the first one is a scam. Sounds like their just selling over-ordered pizza to get a little extra money.
Take care and avoid conflict until you have no option.
Yeah, just drive off. I am naturally very suspicious by nature so I do not fall for schemes and scams. Maybe it pays to be a little paranoid?
When I'm in Mexico I hate it when you pull up to a stopsign or intersection and some dude with a towel or dirty rag sprays water on your windshield starts wiping it off and then says you owe him 200 pesos or something. All the while I'm saying no, stop, please I am ok.
Yeah that's annoying and they're all over the place across Mexico. I've never heard of one of them wanting 200 pesos, maybe in tourist areas or something where they're really trying to scam people. Usually they just expect a few pesos and they also usually obey the finger wag saying no. But sometimes they don't
I'm from Mexico City and as usual had one of those guys today, though this was one of the times he didn't care and sprayed all over. I have to admit I got mad and in strong language told him I already said NO. The guy already has his script to try to make you feel bad, he has "good wishes" and so on.... mf this is one of the things I hate about Mexico.
They have those guys in Toronto too. But usually they don't proceed washing until you say yes. Canadians are more polite
What’s the name of the channel of the guy from Merida you had on with you please I forgot the name
It’s Jose Arteaga Travels
Thanks so much I’m suscribe but couldn’t find it
What are people going to come up with next😮 be scammers are becoming very bold. Here in LA it's becoming an epidemic of homeless people butt usually around supermarket parking lots it could be a lady with kids sitting on the pavement begging for money as people walk in and out I don't fall for it, they've been caught then walking around the corner into a brand new Lexus or Mercedes and they're not even homeless that's how they make all their money to buy all their rich cars it's absolutely disgusting, so people beware 😏
I hope the pizza guy comes...I'm hungry
Pagas impuestos mexicanos?
I've seen that done here in the US, with the pizza thing. The pizzas are always low quality, borderline tasteless. my experience pretty much like @Luis Oseguras
Good call Jordan always decline always say no thanks. Keep walking
With all do respect Jordan. Their are A lot of begger's Scammer's and Homeless in the usa. Only in the State's they have no excuses with all the Government assistance. But thanks for sharing👍
There's a 4th possibility if they knock on your door. The pizza could be tainted with a drug that could knock the recipient out, or worse. Then the perpetrator breaks into your home after you have passed out and robs you blind. Do they really think that a person would be okay eating pizza they didn't order coming from who knows where? It would be not only crazy but extremely dangerous!
Would you mind commenting more on how if someone is getting in your face (calling you rude), to call them rude back could get you in trouble? As a trans person the one thing I've learned in life is that if someone is trying to bully me, show them that you aren't aren't afraid and if they get violent that would be a bad decision on their part (Bullies depend on you being afraid, otherwise they leave). But it sounds like things are different in Mexico?
They might have a weapon and provoking them could get you shot or stabbed or something like that
HI again Jessi. Another thing that could happen has to do with the law in Mexico. If a vehicle has any kind of contact with a motorcycle or a pedestrian, the vehicle is always at fault no matter the circumstances. The pizza guy could claim Jordan hit him and they would take Jordan away without question. It is best to get away as son as you can. Emotions can get the better of you but not engaging is the best.
@@mexicanspec Really?!? Wow, that's great information to know.
@@TangerineTravels Yes Jordan. It is crazy to drive in Mexico. If you don't already you need to increase your 3rd person liability and your legal defense on your insurance to 3 million. Doing that will insure you are not on the hook in case anything happens. It may cost more but it will be worth it in the long run.
Stonewall in the future for your safety. Don’t engage. You never know if he has buddies watching the interaction
Who would eat that pizza of unknown origin?
"No hambre" is the best answer.
I used to eat burritos out of the trunk of a lady’s car🤷♀️
All incoming calls, people, emails, sms, whatsapp offers are potentially scams. The police in Queretaro is good compared to many other cities in Mexico, if you had got the plaque number of the motorcycle, the detectors on the avenues can get this guys caught.... Saludos de Jurica
I doubt the cops would waste their time with something like that. You would be reporting a guy trying to sell a pizza. That is not on their radar.
Yeah, don't talk to strangers and that eliminates 99.9% of things like this.
Yeah just stay home and hide under your bed for the rest of your life and you'll be fine.😉
So sorry this happened to you. God bless.
I like Pizza.
ON CHRISTMAS EVE I WAS UNDER A RED LIGHT AND A MAN DRESS LIKE SANTACLAUSE ASKED ME FOR MONEY, I WHEN REFUSED HE CALLED ME SAN OF THE GUN IN DURTY LANGUAGE, I CLOSED MY WINDOW AND RUN AWAY AS FAST AS THE GREEN LIGHT WENT ON.
Quit SHOUTING
Even the Beggar used the same method to get money.
Easy out. Tell him pizza in Mexico is shit and you are not interested.
Vamos jordan. Estas sobre reaccionando y poniendo mal a Mexico. Es normal que los negocios tratan de buscar otra forma de vender de puerta en puerta. Mexico no vive del seguro social y todos los dias se levantan a" perseguir la chuleta."
I don’t think so Dorian. Go look at all of the countless other videos that he has done. They say nothing but great things about Mexico. He always presents your country in a very favorable light.
Come on, there is nothing wrong with being on the side of ‘good’ and telling all people how to be safe. Trust me, it’s worse in the US.
Bueno, I hope that after all these years living in mexico, you are now speaking fluently Spanish. If not, I am wondering. You cannot live in Mexico just for the amount of $ that you are saving compare to your country. And the worst, is that you spend your time making videos about the possible SCAMS in mexico. A nosotros, no nos gusta.
This is why I continue to go to Nicaragua for 10 years in a row. The people don't do this kind of crap.
It was peckeroni pizza
Learn a few phrases in Swedish, and when someone you don't know approaches you with something sketchy, ask in broken Spanish if they speak Swedish, then say a few things in Swedish. 100% of the time, they won't know even one word let alone enough to scam you. It works in other countries as well, although not always at big tourist sites. I had a one of the endless stream of peddlers approach me at the Pyramids in Giza, and when I spoke to him in Swedish, he flipped right into that without skipping a beat.
Tried that. It works. I just use German. Learned that trick in Tijuana in 1990, I think
I don't know, man. The culture of scamming and general criminality is so deep in that country that one day you're going to have your guts ripped open.
I think this video is a, como se dice, a colossal dud. I'm just saying...
So the first one, buying bootleg pizza, yeah they were scamming. It is easy to not buy stolen stuff, just say get lost, or more polity "No gracias".. The second story, I think the car mechanic is trying to be hero and building up his own bill/credibility w BS. Stealing stuff through an vent? You can't reach in and do anything, like spin a tool or pull a part out. I call BS on the car mechanic.
Oooooh scary pizza guy!!!! I'll trade you scary pizza guy with the crazy magat gun toters that's happening in the US.
