I can’t believe they got it up. I would assume it popped the line when it fought out of the water once the water buoyancy and water displacement helped. Plus if you don’t have a net to help, the hook is probably gonna pull out. Hopefully they had a crab net to help.
Barbless hooks give the tarpon slack and the hooks come out and the fish swim’s off most of the Tarpon we catch our to big to be removed for the water so we use barbless hooks to release them.

@@ADITADDICTS if the fish your reeling in and it has the hook than yes you technically letting the fish out of the water and it’s illegal for tarpon over 40 inches to go out of the water.
