    every single review on every guitar multi fx unit never look at individual FX only the Amp sims so this is brilliant job

      I recommend the headrush flex prime over this unit. What made you choose this over that given the lack of real cabinet simulation on the boss? If you want to go direct I believe The headrush is the superior option given the better cabinet simulation. I ask only out of curiosity not to put down your choice. I am going to be doing a sound comparison of these two units very soon

    I have one coming tomorrow. Can't wait explore some of those amps in greater detail. And I like the near vertical placement of the unit you have set up. I hope I can manage something like that.

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  Місяць тому +1

      I actually find the amps to be rather weak in comparison to the headrush, tonex and spark. That being said the effects are great! I hope you're having fun with the unit. The vertical layout you see was created by me via the editor and is impossible to recreate in real life. I just laid it out this way so you can see it visually more easily. The screen at the top right is unedited

    I am hoping Boss will put out a firmware update on the reverbs.
    I really enjoyed the amp sounds in this unit, especially the JC-120, Twin, Deluxe, Tweed, and Diamond Amps. I also enjoyed the fx tremolo/vibrato, as well as the delays (space echo,) but the reverbs sounded just “meh.” Hopefully Boss will fix it. The only reverb I truly enjoyed was the “ambience” and maybe the “spring” reverb.

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  19 днів тому

      I have always said that boss is not up to par with modern reverb technology. Yes the amps sound great but the paired impulse responses don't sound very good to my ears. I might be being a little harsh.

  •  21 день тому +2

    Hello! If you turn on only send from the amplifier, wouldn't it be better?

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  21 день тому

      The Princeton reverb has no effects loop. Also the gx-10 has amp simulations in it.

  •  21 день тому +1

    Você já ligou ela no send ou no in do amplificador?

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  21 день тому

      This unit contains both time-based effects and effects like drive. To properly utilize it with an effects loop you would have to use the divert function. I'm also testing this with a Princeton reverb which has no effects loop

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes there is but it doesn't function the same way you would expect and you have to program it manually. I wouldn't say that it sounds that good no. Then again I don't like any pitch shifting.

    Great review! I recently got a BOSS GX-10 effects processor, but after attempting a firmware upgrade, the unit got stuck and now won't boot. I've contacted local service providers, but they couldn't fix it, and there's no warranty support here in my country.

      @@GearSounds If you google: "boss gx-10 download" You will reach system files. I followed the procedure to connect to PC, copy system files to GX-10 drive and eject (for windows). It starts counting up to 50 and stops. I tried this several times and waited on it but no luck. I tried this on Windows 10 and Windows 11 Machines.
      Service said there is no quick fix and the board may need replacement. I am waiting for the repair price and duration info from them. I think I will give up on this unit though, because it is so vulnerable. I don't want to go through this risk every system update, in the future. It is not a fail-safe system. I really appreciate your attention, thanks.

    So overall how do you feel it sounded straight into a tube amp?

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому +4

      Into a tube amp, pretty good but it does NOT hold up on a solid state amp in my opinion. A tube amp warms up the digital drives though, even though I still won't use them.

    • @LuisJimenez-pb3ge

      Did you set your high and low cut? The drives sound better when you cut down the highs to around 6.3khz

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому +1

      I have heard people reference this but here at Gear Sounds I can never adjust defaults or I'd be falsely advertising the pedal. This includes not updating pedals or not fiddling with EQ or compression to make the pedal sound better. If it sounds bad out of the box, that's what you get here on the channel. That being said, I actually don't think this would be a good idea anyways. Please link me to a video of somebody that does this so I can evaluate. If the drive sound better on a tube amp then Boss and Roland would have adjusted it that way from the factory.

    • @LuisJimenez-pb3ge
      @LuisJimenez-pb3ge 2 місяці тому +1

      @ that’s not true, Boss released the GX100/10 knowing there are a near infinite amount of amps/frfr/headphones that it can possibly be plugged into. There is literally no way for them to program the pedal to sound exactly the same across all forms of amplification. But hey, I love the tones of my GX100 and have gotten pure compliments regardless of how I’m running it that night.

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому +1

      As a sound engineer I have to correct your assumption. First of all I have to say that's a straw man argument. I never said that they programmed the pedal to sound exactly the same through every single amplifier and the fact that you would assume that shows that you not only don't watch my channel but have no idea as to the level of knowledge I contain within my tiny brain. Pedal manufacturers manufacture pedals for fender and Marshall tube amplifiers. They do not manufacture them for full range speakers nor are pedals meant to be plugged into full range speakers. Can this unit specifically have a separate and different output setting so that it can go through solid state, full range speakers and headphones? Yes absolutely but I never said that it couldn't I just said that by default it is tested and set up for two amps. This is simply a fact. Why? Because most guitar players will send this through a tube amp, this is a giggijg musicians tool. I have worked with several pedal manufacturers in the manufacturing line, some of which I can name and some of which I can't for contractual reasons. When we make pedals, we make them with the hot rod deluxe because this is the most popular amplifier in the world. The second amps we take a look at are the Princeton reverb and the deluxe reverb. Guess which amp I played this through? The Princeton reverb. Boss set all of these drives up for the hot rod deluxe and fender amplifiers by default. How do I know? This is what every pedal manufacturer does. Pedals are set up by default for a fender tube amps. Why? Fender tube amps are the most popular amplifiers to send pedals through. How do I know that pedal manufacturers are setting up pedals for fender tube amps? Because I know that just like the companies that I worked for they aren't stupid. They know they needed to sound best for what is most popular. What you are suggesting is that, boss is not only stupid but they set up the pedal in such a way that it sounds bad on the most popular amplifier. I have to respectfully tell you, that is simply an untrue statement. No guitar pedal out of the box, especially from a large company would not be set up for a fender tube amplifier. Please point me to the location of the erroneous information your referencing. As a sound engineer and consultant, I'm very curious where you heard this erroneous information.

    Hi, I just ordered a new GT1000 Core. Some tell me the GX is better. I only need a desktop Fx unit for recording, my performing days are over , a broken neck kida ruins things. What is your opinion on it. Thank you,be well.

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому

      If you only want a desktop unit for recording I would suggest a Spark 2 over the GT 1000 core. The GT 1000 and GX1000 are much better suited for gigging or live performance. The Spark 2 is a much better recording device at home given that the amps and reverbs sound much better than the boss unit. The boss unit is good for delay and modulation as well as setting up a pedal board that can get you all of the way there for live demos. I just don't think it sounds amazing in a recording context if I'm honest

    Can I add a wah effect to any patch?

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes you can, use the same method I used for the looper at the end of my "create a patch" video. First put the wah pedal on your pedal board on the very left hand side. In real life it would go on the right hand side but this is backwards in the pedal. Then. Instead of selecting the looper control, Like I do in the video, select the expression pedal control and then choose the WAh pedal.

    Im here for the slicer thinking it might have a decent amt of options. Figured out that the GX-10 is limited, I'll stick with my SL-2. Watching ur vid ive figured out that the GX-10 in general only has basic configs don't sacrifice tone, but Boss products shouldn't have tone sacrifices. The touchscreen makes it expensive, and I don't need it. I'd prefer a lower price without the touchscreen and its software. They should've included Bluetooth capability.

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому

      I think at this price point it has to have some sacrifices. It might be possible that they don't want to compete with their other pedals. It does have Bluetooth but you have to buy a separate module and attach it. I like the fact that Bluetooth is not included from the start. This means you only have to pay for it if you need it or want it and I suspect most of us won't. I would give this a shot. The drives don't sound good but everything else sounds amazing to me.

    With the same amount of money, Headrush MX5 is better value

    • @GearSounds
      @GearSounds  2 місяці тому +1

      That is only true if you are after amp and cabinet simulation as well as reverb. Besides the reverb in this unit is actually pretty damn good but you're right, the head rush MX-5 has better reverb and better amps but I don't think that makes it a better value because everything else about this unit is better than the headrush. I have played both for hours, extensively for reference.
