I have owned several bikes over numerous decades. This bike is, by far, my favorite. Nearly maintenance free. Ya' don't have to haul out a massive dresser for short trips. Tons of power for long hauls on the highway. Almost too much power for safe entry level beginners but doable. On the used market these are a great buy and replacement parts are easy to find. I have highway pegs mounted on a low-profile engine guard, and the tear drop handlebars make the bike totally comfortable to ride for hours. I get compliments galore. The bike is really "a best kept secret" among many riders. (Just ignore the 1800 cc, full dresser kind who may taunt you about it not having enough CCs or "not loud enough" or whatever trash talk and ride).

50% of your problem is the aftermarket seat. 100% its pushing you forward so they could get more padding in it. The oem seat is perfect. I am 6ft 260lbs with zero comfort issues.
The battery drops from the bottom. You just need clearance underneath. I can see why you did it while the tire is off though.

low mounted battery also helps keep center of gravity low which equals more stability, esp at slow speeds. if i haven't yet aged out of motorscooting after sixty years 100 thou plus miles and many diff machines, this would be among top three or four choices for my next bike. odd that three on my list would be suzukis ~ but they do make lovely machines.

I feel this video... Im coming off a Honda CB550. Engine blew last fall (sadly my fault), but yesterday I just picked up one of these yr 2000 intruder 800.
I paid 1000, which was a blessing for a guy in my situation. I have knee problems, and i loved sitting up high on my honda but its hard to find tall standing bikes. The riding im adjusting to in comparison, but I'm seeing it is not as uncomfortable as i thought, muscles seem to be already adjusting. I stretch a lot on stops and i put my leg up on the extra pegs alot. Not a super stretch but it helps... In my current situation its way better than not riding and its an awesome bike. One day i will get a more stretched out bike but this will happily do for now. But I feel this video because Im about 6.ft/6ft.1.

I love the look of this bike... buckhorn bars, skinny front tire and tank, king and queen seat... always wanted one... and then I sat on one and it felt awkward because of those controls. Forward controls are expensive for it or you have to get creative or just have highway pegs... and I’m 5’7.... still think they’re cool as hell.. 1400s offer more comfort but are more rare

I'm 66 years old and 5'8" with short legs (29" inseam) and the mid controls are fine for me. I am comfortable both with the seating position and the handlebars on it for trips at least up to some 250-300 miles. The reason I bought it is just because it is a small, not overly heavy bike. I wouldn't, in fact, mind getting an even smaller, lighter, bike. So, everything this vlogger dislikes is a pro for me. Great bike that I put 2000 miles on in the last 3 months alone.

The Suzuki intruder series ran from 1985 to 2005. And actually it consisted of 700 CC and 1400 CC models. I believe that in 1987 or 1988 the 700 was increased to a 750. In 1992 the 750 became an 800 and has been 800 until 2005. The 1400 model ran from 1985 to 2005. If you got that bike for $500 you got a real deal buddy. I have ridden
Suzuki Intruders for 15 years. I would be definitely interested in buying it if you don't like it.

New they were 8000,00 ,I got the 1400 and when it first came out they were called harley busters it would smoke a harley the same size it's got really good power ,and it rides smoother than a 2008 fat Bob screaming eagle edition, I know that for a fact . Course as the story goes, the more you get the more you want. But a small tip 650lbs is 650lbs if it starts to lean straighten your wheel and bite down cause once s bike starts to go down your usually in deep shit. They always go down when you least expect it, and it's usually when you're not moving or turning in un familiar turf or incline.

Actually this guy is quite in the dark on this bike. The 800 is a great beginners to intermediate bike they are not really uncomfortable to ride. In opposition to what he says about the handlebars they are old school and fit ok. The power is plenty sufficient even with a big rider. On the other hand the 1400 is a Real Beast. Definitely not a beginners bike, when you twist the throttle on it you had better know how to hang on. The design of these bikes are fabulous. The ONLY drawback is the tank is only around 3.5 gal so.carry a couple extra gallons and you are in business. I have had two of the 1400's and love'em.

The 03 Intruder VS 800 will be my first bike. My husband found an incredible deal on the bike from a coworker who had this. The coworker bought it brand new as his first bike. He put just a little over 2100 miles on it. After which, he removed the battery, gasoline, covered it, and kept it stored for almost 21 years in a heated garage.
      We got it for $800!
With it sitting that long, my hubby had to clean the carbs. After he cleaned the carbs, put gasoline in it, and used an external battery to test it, it fired right up.
Being a little shorter than 5'4", I was able to sit on it flat-footed and lift it up off the kickstand without a single issue.
We have to get a battery for it and make sure we do all the normal checks on it, but it should be ready for the road.
Heck, even the tires on it were like brand new. No dry rot.

It's a great handling cruiser, easy to balance, you don't have to put your foot down at a stop, and I think it's my easiest bike to handle in a parking lot. I'm only 5'4 and I feel a little cramped on this bike. So if you're shorter than that, this is the bike for you. I have ridden a few bikes with a lower seat but they were underpowered and managed to have a seat that was too low even for a shorty like me. I always liked the look of the first generation intruders, but I owned a 1400 and did not like its performance or handling. Again, I just put an 800 on the road and can't get over its nimble handling. It's become my go-to errands bike. I have over two dozen motor bikes, And I swapped them out like partners at a contra dance. The last year and a half I've been checking out cruisers, and was surprised to find that height plays a significant factor in which cruiser you like. Mostly because of mid, mid forward, and forward foot controls. I've tried out models from the five main manufacturers And at this point consider the Kawasaki VN 750 Vulcan is my do it all choice, and the intruder 800 is my just hop on it and ride choice for this short rider.

@@JohnSmith-cf4gn I’ve owned two Kawasaki and will never have another. Both of them were junk. I’ve had two Honda’s and two Suzuki’s and all four of them ran great. I went to look at a 07 Vulcan I900 sharp really like and after two minutes of running it started throwing oil and I said no more Kawasaki. I almost forgot about my last two it was so long ago. I’ve gotten a little used to this one but still too tall for it. I’m gonna do a couple things to try make it more comfy and if that don’t work I’ll sale it and get a bigger bike. This one is fine for the day cruising and riding with my buds in this area. Just ain’t gonna take it cross country. Hard as hell to find aftermarket parts for it. All my friends are Harley boys but I just wont pay that much for a bike

You had to take the rear tire off to get the battery out.... LOL. Nah, you're not the one to listen to about this bike. 0/10
