Chef Johnny, you've brought back so many memories, some good, and some bitter sweet of my childhood. Summertime meant, Homemade Ice Cream season was upon us. It never failed. Mama used to always cook her own ice cream batter using the Eagle Brand. milk. Strawberry and Banana were the usual flavors. I had a good friend who used to come over to our house. As soon as he stepped into the house he'd say "Mom, you got any Eagle Brand"? Then she'd say "In the pantry Bob". Yeah, he'd eat that stuff right out of the can. Everytime I hear or see a can of Eagle Brand milk I think of him. He was KIA in Vietnam back in 1967 IIRC. Great guy. RIP Bob. Thanks Chef Johnny. Stan
I made this recipe and turned out great. Only difference is I added 1 1/2 cup heavy cream to 10 1/2 cups milk to get my 12 cups. Then the 3 cans sweet condensed milk with 2 Tb vanilla extract. Same kind ice cream maker. Everyone loved it. Thanks Johnny and team.
What was even better than watching you two make ice cream was watching you two get along like a married couple should. A lesson for all married couples that may be arguing with each other for any reason, make some ice cream together, drop what you’re arguing about, and appreciate each other. That way Satan never gets to win. You all have a wonderful time together. MUCH LOVE❤❤!!!

My wife and I had just celebrated 24 years at the end of 2018, then she passed early 2019, we were on our way to catching you guys but GOD had other plans. Thanks for the video. For a creamier taste, replace the whole milk with heavy whipping cream. If heavy cream is too heavy and whole milk is too weak, try using Half & Half instead.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIBBY!!! Hope you had a wonderful day, Ma'am. Thank you for sharing it, and the yummy icecream with us.🎂🥂 July girls are the best, aren't we though? 😙 Sweetnatured too. 😉 Chef is a lucky man. Bless everyone there, keep cool.
Its really hot here (S. OK) too. And after watching that, I've got to dust off the old ice cream maker and get busy. We sometimes cut in fruit, candy bars, etc. Hey, it's ice cream - no way to go wrong!
Every single recipe I have tried that uses milk instead of heavy cream has not been good. It's not creamy in texture but icy and lumpy. Worst of all you can't serve it straight from the freezer. I usually microwave it to soften it enough to spoon out. I have found a custard ice cream meets all my needs for creaminess and ease to serve. My recipe is 3 cups heavy cream and 1 cup whole milk. Heat to 170°f. Do not boil. Meanwhile whip 5 egg yolks with 2/3 cup sugar until creamy and pale. Slowly add hot cream to temper eggs while mixer is running on low speed. Mix 3 minutes. Return mixture to stove and heat, stirring constantly, to 170°f. Do not boil. Strain through fine mesh, add 1 Tablespoon vanilla and cool overnight. Churn per instructions for your machine. Remember nothing comes from easy and a bit of extra is worth the effort 😊
That is an excellent way to do it. I like a custard base also. This recipe was for a quick easy method for those that do not want to take the time you are putting into yours. Thanks for Watching.
Makes me wonder why we don’t do this more often. It’s a small, good thing. Ice cream on a hot day like today. Peach ice cream. When are those Fredericksburg peaches coming in?

What the hell happened to churning by hand. You could not run fast enough to give me a damn electric churn. Been there and no more of that junk. Get you big ass on the floor, grab the handle and churn. It only takes about 15 minutes to hand churn and it will be much colder than that weak junk you have there can churn. To this day I have a White Mountain hand churn in my pantry and it still works very well. They are not cheap but well worth the price. Electric churn. Damn. You can have the old lady sit on the churn while you churn. That is the way we still do it. Motor stalling out. Another reason to have a hand churn.
lol can’t see my wife setting on the churn. Before I was old enough to turn the churn I was the churn setter. Lol good times back then. I did have a hand crank. Had my kids use when they were young. It is definitely the better ice cream. Thanks for watching and for adding to then conversation.
