Yes, this was very informative. Both of you did touch on several good bullet points. Hopefully, you both do another video that includes externship pointers DO's & DON'T....
Yessssssss I need this girl you read my mind this morning I’m tired of hearing you need 5 years of experience when you are newly certified how can you get the experience if you don’t get a chance. Bertram is one of the recruiter that always ask for YEARS of experience. But he’s nice tho. Please help!!! Us
Rauni, we just started a 1-on-1 coaching program to help those who have a hard time finding their first medical coding job, get placed. Feel free to email us at info@renowntalent.com for more info.
Thanks! I actually don't even have the video recorded for tomorrow. I wanted to do a Halloween one I waiting for a little Halloween jacket to come in the mail! I hope it gets here today!
When creating a resume for coding, as someone who will be brand new to the field, the only experience I will have to list will be saying that I was a self employed massage therapist for 19 years. What are your thoughts on including something to the effect of: 'maintaining my own business required a high level of detail oriented documentation and organizational skills' ?
As usual you are RIGHT ON TIME. As I am now doing COC course work. My other question is what are employment assessment exams like? I know some employers give them, and would like some insight. Thank you for clarifying the current standards for resumes. Another great informative session Victoria Thanks so much
@@ContempoCoding Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to hear how it was. I am pushing as best I can I want to take it before he test changes for 2021. I also was wondering if it would be the next Exam to be switched to online which I would prefer? So I cannot wait to hear how it was for you.
I don't have any insider info, but I know the second most popular credential is the CRC so that would be my best guess -- especially since ICD-10-CM updates already happened.
Can you do a video of all the certifications needed to be and stay a certified medical coder? Preferably in a step by step fashion. I am very systematic and when something is not apparent or step by step with detail of how to obtain/where to go to get certification, it becomes frustrating for me.
I really needed this! Thanks so much! I had an assignment in my Virtual Clinical as I am finishing up my coding certificate next month. San Jacinto Community College in Houston offers a career advisor. She told me to leave my two childcare jobs and not even mention my 74 hours in pre-nursing/general studies I completed 30 years ago before having to drop out from crippling migraines. Now those are controlled, I “finished” raising my family and went back for this degree. Thoughts?
Thank you for this. My question is how does one get experience in medical coding as a new CPC if companies are not hiring new CPC's because they don't have experience?
Thanks for reaching out. As you can imagine, I get many requests for advice on experience so I’ve compiled all of my best tips in this UA-cam video: ua-cam.com/video/MKanUdQvhec/v-deo.html I think you’ll find it very helpful. Best of luck!
Great idea for a Topic , this was so helpful to me , studying for my cpc test now and will be looking for my first Codong job soon. I am an Operating Room RN who used to travel , he gave great tips regarding traveling in and out of the country.
Yeah! I've gotten so many inquires lately about being a traveling medical coder and IMO, I think being honest and upfront is the best approach versus "I'll just do it and they'll probably never find out."
Great Video. I have a question. Im currently in school studying for MBC, and my teacher is pushing typing speed and accuracy. I wanted to know how important that is. Do employers look at that? What is a good typing speed? 40wpm, 60wpm?
The speed and accuracy does not pertain to your ability to type. It pertains to your ability to code at a certain pace. There are requirements in medical coding for quality as well as productivity. So you have to meet a certain percentage of accuracy as well as a certain amount of charts or codes coded in an hour. The amount will vary depending on what types of services your coding and your employer requirements.

The problem with fields like healthcare is they grow so fast and can't always keep up with having good employees. When companies don't offer truly "entry level' jobs and will ONLY hire those with 3+ years experience it eventually hurts them. New coders never get to break into the field and gain experience and employers cannot find good coders to fill those lower level coding positions because new coders were avoided. Now you have a shortage.
In Brazil having a picture with your résumé was normal. But I will say, people will discriminate if you’re not pretty enough, hair color etc… I am against putting pictures. They don’t even read your résumé if you’re not appealing or if you look different. Other countries doesn’t it because their mentality is different.
Finding medical coding recruiters can be an essential step in advancing your career. Here are several ways to connect with them: Professional Associations: Engage with organizations like the AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) or AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association). They often have job boards and resources to connect coders with recruiters. LinkedIn: Update your profile to reflect your coding experience and credentials. Use the search function to find recruiters in the medical coding field, and join relevant groups where recruiters may post job openings. Staffing Agencies: Many agencies specialize in healthcare staffing and can connect you with medical coding positions. Examples include Robert Half, Ajilon, and Kforce. Reach out to them directly to see if they have specialized medical coding recruiters. Industry Conferences and Events: Attend medical coding conferences, webinars, and local chapter meetings. Recruiters often attend these events to find qualified candidates. Online Job Boards: Websites like Indeed, Glassdoor, and Monster allow you to search for jobs and may also connect you with recruiters who specialize in medical coding. Networking: Utilize your personal network to find connections to recruiters. Ask colleagues, instructors, or classmates if they know of any recruiters or if they can introduce you to one. Social Media: Platforms like Twitter and Facebook may have groups or pages dedicated to medical coding where recruiters post job openings. Remember to have your resume updated and be clear about your certifications, experience, and the type of role you're looking for when reaching out to recruiters.
Medical terminology, anatomy, ability to do intense medical research on coding and insurance guidelines, basic computer skills, and understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM.
You've proven that you are an expert in not only coding, but give hope and entertainment with your mind boggling conversations!
I love how polished this content was; right to the point and gave me a lot to think about as I finish up my coding practicum. Much appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
