It has been 3 months since the start of Quarantine, and we decided that we needed to get out of the house sometime. Like every other family, we went to Oregon. We had an initial departure date of 6/24, but since our original hotel in Klamath Falls allowed another guest to extend their stay by another night, we were purged out of the hotel, so instead, we rethought our plans and came to the basis that 1. June 25, 2020, would be a better departure date, and 2. going all the way to Klamath Falls on the first day wasn't necessary, and that Mt. Shasta would be a better place.
We finished packing food and baggage, and we left in our own car by 10AM. We drove the usual way out of Suburban Sunnyvale, via CA-85, CA-237, I-880, CA-262(Mission Blvd), I-680, I-80, I-505, and I-5. We thought about Lunch when we drove past Williams, but we wanted to wait another 30 minutes to get to Willows. I told the driver to get off at the next and only exit in Willows, where there's a McDonalds, but he ignored the notay(short for notification) and we missed the exit. Since there wasn't going to be another exit for another few miles, we ended up getting off at Orland, where we found a Burger King. I've read a couple of reviews and they said to avoid the Burger Kings in California, Ohio, etc. As I mentioned in the video, the burger had an overcooked patty with raw cow's blood injected there.
After the disbeeliefing experience, we got on the other side of the highway at a Pilot Rest Stop to use the restrooms. One travel partner mentioned that the people there in Rural California told her that she didn't need a mask, despite being in the middle of a pandemic the likes have never been experienced since the Spanish Influenza. A heatwave was going on in California during those few days, the temperatures were in the triple-digits, and The Weather Channel thought it'd be a nice day to personalize the advertisements. I'm ok with "It's a Hot Kentucky Day!" AC Unit TV Ads when it's only April, but this? Nah. The Heat Wave cleared the clouds, but we still ascended into the mountains after Redding pretty uneventfully. It was 3PM when we reached the town of Mt. Shasta, but despite it being a town nestled into a mountain forest, the heatwave still came to make it seem like we were actually in East Texas with an active volcano nearby. Our hotel was Best Western Plus Tree House Inn, which had a room for us on the Second Floor, but the worrisome travel partner was back. She wanted a first-floor room so we could easily enter without going through the indoor hallway.
We spent our two and a half hours sleeping through the afternoon, I spent it on writing a Trip Report known as "The Lockdown Getaway: Road Tripping in the middle of a Pandemic". By 6PM, we got hungry, so I was ordering a burger from a chain that was supposed to be in the current town, but we ordered for the Dunsmuir Location without noticing because the Mt. Shasta location was closed, hoping that I would get a better experience than with Burger King. We opted instead for an American-Italian restaurant with indoor dining, but we took out the meals instead to eat by the side of a reservoir known as Lake Siskiyou. There was a place by the dam, but we drove further in, hoping we could get views of Mt. Shasta as the sun set behind us, but we were charged upon entering a hefty fee for the recreation area. After beginning to eat at a picnic table, there was a seagull that was just begging for our food and wouldn't go away.
We left the place, and the final piece of footage shown in this video was us driving along the lakeside road from the recreation area back to the hotel. Without snapping many pictures of the actual hotel, I transferred the first day of images to my laptop and started working on this video at 10PM and only started rendering the project around 12:30 in the morning, hoping to upload the video in the morning. To prevent the video to reveal where I actually was, I scheduled the publicity date to 10:45 AM, by that time I would have left the hotel.
