My Grandad tells me the 1960's was the best decade, mainly because of The Beatles and steam trains!
The GCR showed off steam loco's, diesel loco's, freight wagons and road vehicles all from the 60's. There was even an appearance from Dr Beeching protestors and some local scallies to keep the local bobbie's busy!
The Gala featured the following loco's:
8F 48305
9F 92214
BR Standard 2mt 78018
BR Standard 5mt 73516
GWR Hall 6990 "Witherslack Hall" named "Swithland Hall" for the Gala.
Class 24 D5054
Class 37 D6700
Class 45 D123
Railcar "Iris"
Great video which showcases the Great Central’s fine collection of freight wagons. I particularly enjoyed the sequence at Quorn including the rail closure protests!
Captured nicely the essence of the 1960s. Well done, a thoroughly enjoyable video.
Thanks for your kind comment, glad you enjoyed it. It was an excellent show by the GCR. 👍.

Loved the 'Get back to ICI Beeching' placard.
Reminds me of how Ernest Marples, whose wife 'owned' 80% of Marples Ridgway (road and and road civil engineering company), employed Dr Beeching to close all of the rural railways and branch lines, and in so doing destroyed rural communities, so that Marples Ridgway could make billions from new road-building projects, and it wasn't a corrupt conflict of interest.
And prompts me to think that the billions wasted on HS2 could have been better used to reinstate some of the railway infrastructure destroyed by a corrupt politician and reinvigorate those rural communities trhat suffered from the gfreed of Ernest Marples.
Great content and a reminder of what was but is no more.
