It's interesting how both Joker and Bruce both comment that the apartment is nice and has lots of space. It's a clever way to draw a parallel between two damaged, psychotic people who just happen to operate on different sides of morality.

Michael Keaton was a phenomenal Batman but he was an even better Bruce Wayne.
Personally he's my favourite Bruce Wayne while Conroy is my favourite Batman.

I couldn't agree with you more. Bruce had to make Vicki understand, bar none. He was being self assertive. And it humbled her enough to make her want to listen. No harm in that at all.

According to Bruce, by the time the events of Batman Returns started, she did the dumping.
She tells him later that she has loved him since the moment she met him. They only had one date so it would have sounded wierd to say " your a real nice girl & I love you " but I totally can buy her loving him at first sight since that happens a lot. She also said " are we gonna try to love eachother ? " he does say " I'd like to " so I think he did love her but couldnt bc he followed with one if my favorite lines that sums up bruce perfectly " but hes out there ( joker ) & I've gotta go to work. Shows his obsessive need to protect Gotham & save people bc he could not save his parents as a child. I thought viki was Bruce's best relationship out of all the batman films. Selina was so messed up as she became cat woman. I never really watched batman forever but I know he was with chase meridian but I don't remember if they got together. I refused to see that trash batman & robin . In the dark knight series he never really got with rachel & she loved Harvey at the end. I only saw Parts of dark knight rises so I cant comment on him & that cat woman. In the latest batman did batman played by affleck have a love interest? I know a new batman reboot is coming out with robert Pattinson. Are they just going to keep rebooting batman. I think it was ended with dark knight. It was cool to see batman vs superman & justice league as a new angle. What are they possibly gonna do with yet another batman franchise. Same with spiderman. After Tobey Maguire did the 3 movies I thought spiderman should have ended. I guess they will do them forever like how the comic books dont end.

This is my favorite Batman movie at all times 😎
When we again watched the film (as a young intellectual) we found this scene to be a good example of dialectic cinema: the shots of Kim Basinger are largely uninflected, with Keaton's performance forming the negation. All praise to Ms Basinger's acting.

Batman 1989 and Batman Returns are constant reminders that Batman was done right once. I know it's hard to believe, but Tim knew what the hell he was doing. Even without being a comic buff. The results were perfect, with only Batfleck being the next best thing.

I've always loved it. Weird mix of heavy industrial iron and brick - like an old railway bridge - crossed with soft pastelly art deco. But then I love all the architecture in this film!
@@stuartwesthall It tells a whole story, too, about how Gotham used to be a magnificent city where art and culture flourished, but it was so long ago that history has left it behind, with the elite clinging to their nostalgia for a golden era that's getting further and further away by doubling down on an old, dated aesthetic. Bruce is probably the only rich Gothamite who hasn't accepted that his hometown will never be the grand old city it used to be.
It's a nice apartment - Lots of space
His frequent and dramatic finger pointing and hand gesturing is pretty fun and fascinating to watch here as he attempts to explain his other, darker side to her...Only keaton could pull these mannerisms off and deliver it like this.
Bruce and Joker make the same observation upon entering the apartment about it having lots of space. It was a nice little touch to show how they're not so different.

Michael Keaton I think for his role had to learn kickboxing for the role of Batman. I think Vicki Vale was based of Marilyn Monroe.

The sheer humanity that Michael Keaton brings to Bruce Wayne is wonderful. Kevin Conroy's Bruce Wayne is pure confidence and he would have exactly the right thing to say - no hesitation. Bale's Bruce Wayne is a smart ass but would have some poignant speech before the big reveal.
Keaton's Bruce Wayne is this fumbling mess who didn't even devise a plan on how to do this. He's more Keaton than he is Bruce Wayne. The movies could never be canon because there's way too many misses but as an enjoyable, likeable performance in a very entertaining and memorable cultural phenomena, it's great.

It's a new "feature" of the 4K release. Some harebrained asshole thought it was a good half-baked idea to add a tint of teal, and an inferior SFX (sound effects) track to replace the one the original filmmakers put in the movie. Best to give this stupid new re-release a miss and hold back to the much truer and better previous Blu Ray re-release.
I can't believe this movie is 30 yrs old and it came out in 1989 and Prince did the soundtrack to this movie and Batman items were flying off the shelves and Jack Nicholson was the perfect Joker! He told Heath Ledger don't do it! Jack Nicholson made this movie he was the REAL star!

I tried to put myself in Vicki's shoes and try to guess what I would think Bruce was driving at, and honestly, the first thought was "he has a fetish that he's turned into a lifestyle." You know, like those furries who get surgery to look more like their fursona, or someone who's a full time sub or dom outside of the bedroom. Isn't it funny how superficially close that is to the truth? I mean, they both might entail wearing lots of black leather or wearing an animal themed mask.

Michael, I'm sorry. I already pick someone else who is beautiful then Kim Basinger who played Vicki Vale. But Terry Farrell is a good actress and model. And she played Jadzia Dax in Star Trek Deep Space Nine. But she didn't cast as Vicki Vale in this movie but she didn't appear anywhere in 1988 and 1989. She wasn't even there.😢😢😢😭😭😭She-- She was in her last 80s movie was "Crazy Legs" Aka "Off The Mark" she didn't know when she coming back on the screen that time that year. I can't watch this.😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 The only Batman movie I put on is "Batman Returns" was the 1992 version of Terry Farrell. Until Batman Returns coming up, Terry Farrell will be merge. I use the Youcut apps and Video Merge apps on the phone. Batman Returns came out last year the same year is one of Terry Farrell movie like "Hellraiser 3."
