I don't think I missed any major ones, but if I did, comment under this with what you think I should have covered and I'll shit on it real quick for you
My dad always told me "If you can count how many times you've fallen off, then you can't ride". I think this was more relevant to dirt riding but I think it still holds true in some aspects of road riding - if you don't exceed your limitations how can you ever expect to surpass them.
@@greatestnitemare6626 was gonna say this is the dumbest advice for road riding. I think he forgot the end goal is to not die, not progress as fast as you can by disregarding every risk
I’m glad I found this. As a beginner learner, I’ve heard many of these maxims before and thought most of bs to a degree. Especially the loud pipe one. I honestly thought too “Just own that you want loud pipes”, cause that’s what I want. Awesome to see a seattle moto channel too! I don’t see many Washington riders
"You never see a motorcycle outside parked outside a psychiatrist's office." I love riding. I'm even still in the honeymoon period of skill acquisition and novelty. But shit got real recently and I've been seeing a therapist about it; that's been helping way more than thought-spiraling while riding. And now when I ride I can focus on *that* rather than the rest of my life.
I love this channel. I like that you blend motorcycle content and literally all the other stuff I care about. I wish I knew more people that aligned with my ideals more closely.
How about; 'you'll never see a motorcycle parked outside a therapists office'. As if you know where all your local therapists parking areas are, and as if no motorcyclist receives therapy.
Hey there,, your favorite Harley Rider hear once again.....That one about loud pipes, yea, I am with you it's BS. Maybe 50 years ago it was more true, but with today's vehicles with the windows up, then cranking there stereo and playing with there cell phone, they will not hear you until they hit you. I have a Vance and Hines 2 into 2 scavenging headpipes, but it's into a stock muffler. It works just fine and I can hear my stereo & CB. But I do have a 135db airhorn, now that they can hear. The one I think you missed is one that I do use "There are old riders, and there are drunk riders, but there are no old drunk riders".........
I have a story I'll probably never get around to telling where I was fucking around on the highway with someone and then pulled off with them, and they pulled their helmet up to reveal their snotting, drunken face, and was just totally floored that someone would be on their bike in such a smashed state. That's a risk I will never take.
I’ve had moto-people tell me great advice, and moto-people tell me awful advice. For me it’s about experience and research (and pushing oneself). I tend to go with good-enough gear, PAYING ATTENTION, a combo of humility and arrogance, and having fun ... and voting. (I assume you don’t care, but I’m not into the current hair style (for no reason other than it’s hit**r connotations). But I like the flags and cardboard poster.) Please keep up your stuff. I enjoy it.
It was in the results, yes, in the top 10 ten of the list when I searched. Every time I saw squid tips, I was like, fuck yea, it's that alex guy, his videos are the shit. Then, I subbed.
"Ride like everyone is trying to kill you" has been so far from my experience. I've been riding for about a year now and have rode about 2000 miles so far. Have I had a couple close calls where someone didn't see me? Yeah. But for the most part, car drivers are super considerate. They'll choose to wait until I pass them before joining my lane - even if the gap is perfectly safe. They'll wave me through 4-way-stops if we arrived around the same time. And people tailgate me way less often than when I'm driving.
Loud exhaust will help notify others at high density, low speed traffic. Like pushing your way, between the lanes, to the front of the line at red light stop. At the highway? nope.
I've just been going through your back catalogue. My first instinct was to be repulsed by your username, but there's very little you say that I can argue or take umbrage with. On reflection, your username is perfect. Nice going, my man.
I’m making a group for my local riders and in it I have a bunch of your videos in a folder for new riders to watch and learn lots of stuff keep up the great work love these videos
Hey bud, great work. Loud exhaust are not the answer to safety, but why not invest in a loud horn? I have Denali Soundbomb air horns on my 2 bikes; Ninja 1000 & MT09. When in doubt blow your horn, especially when you see someone unpredictable at a crossroad etc. And especially if you see a Prius 🤣 Edit; loud pipes guarantee hearing loss. It happens, there is just no 2 ways about it. So, always wear earplugs. Because when youth runs out (which is really our life's night of inebriation), then the hangover is a lot worse when you need hearing aids 😕
Oooh spicy one, I found you through the video you did on the rider who was attacked and shot her attacker. I was looking for info about concealed carry and motorcycles
No old bold bikers is a substitution of the phrase no old bold pilots. Bold in that case means taking risks you have no hedge out of if it goes wrong or any part of the execution requires some great feat of skill beyond the norm of what everyone else is typically doing. Basically taking more risks than everyone else doing the same function.
I kind of agree, the only context where loud pipes help is when traffic is slow and echoes can make you noticeable to drivers ahead of you. If you aren't riding on the m25 at 5.30pm, your loud pipes are mostly just noise pollution
Its amazing the barrage of knowledge thrown at you when you get into motorcycles.. but I notice when you truly migrate from armchair admirer to licenced rider you really begin to peer between the corn maze of useful and terrible life altering bad advice .I am still very green only a couple thousand Miles on my bikes.I absorb what i can and attempt to sort out the nonsense .I love this channel great stuff btw.
The best helmet for you is a helmet that has a good rating but also fit your head perfectly. For some that is a $600 helmet, for others it could be $100.
@@Championedd as a I said if it has a good rating, ie it is certified. If you buy a $600 helmet that did not fit correctly it could come off in an accident or not provide the correct internal cushioning regardless of rating.
1) RIP the trans flag falling down halfway through 2) I didn't see you rank the numerous maxims about "riding a bike improves my mental health." Where do you think that one lands in your list?
There were too many to give a single ranking too, but taking your statement there, riding can absolutely be a valid aspect of a mental health regiment. However extending out into ‘Cures’ is F tier, as mental health is complex and unique to each person.
The people that quit riding because of a crash. Why did you start riding in the first place? Did you think you will ride till your 90's without a single incident? 😂
5$ head => 5$ helmet. So the folks who buy $1000 think their head is only worth $1000? I think my head is worth about everything I own, and more. But I can't spend that much? What's a guy to do?
Agree with everything except riding like everyone is trying to kill you. I live by that motto. Riders I know agree that these fuckers will try running us off the roads on purpose, I'm new at riding and have already dealt with so many assholes who get a thrill out of it. Also a lot of drunks, methheads, rude, impatient, incompetent people, no turn signals, road ragers, old blind snow birds (but maybe that's just Floridumb culture)
