Great way to put that episode. But just a few things.
If I remember correctly, team Rocket appears during the race. You could incorporate a battle with them in which you battle with Ponyta and it evolves. Just my opinion.

Very nice, but doesn't Ponyta evolve to Rapidash during the race? Dunno how you'd be able to pull that off though :P. It's good as it is :D.
