Sympathy affects what the slugpup is willing to attack and eat. Low empathy makes the pup less likely to attack enemies in a dangerous situations and if it's below 0.89 it's more like to eat living creatures such as baby noodleflies and centipedes, but if it's above that it won't grab living creatures even when you try to hangle it to them.
By the way did you know you can do a glitch that allows you to be other slugcats other than hunter gourmand and survivor to get pups What you have to do Step one load your game as survivor Step two find pups Step three sleep in a shelter with your pups Step four exit the game when the shelter is finished (wait 10 seconds) Step five enable jolly co-op Step six switch to the character you want (make sure to be on the survivor campaign) Step seven load your game up Enjoy! You can do this on other campaigns but I recommend survivor so your gameplay isn’t so peril…
You can start survivor's (or hunter's or gourmand's) campaign as any slugcat through co-op and you will still get pups. Its not a glitch, pups will just spawn on these specific CAMPAIGNS rather than spawning according to the slugcat you're playing. I used to play that way before I got the "slugpups for everyone" mod.
