Watched this several times. At 1/4 speed too. There wasn't a dang thing you could have done to avoid hitting him. That's a fact Tanner. I know that isn't what you want to hear or ever do , but it's racing. Things are happening so fast. Your line of sight is limited. If you had a super power to see into the future sure you could have avoided it. Not the case. On a brighter note. I watch the way you drive. I watch it regular speed and slowed down. You are getting much more comfortable with it all. You are not "wheeling" the car anywhere near as much. Your steering wheel inputs are much better, more precise ,and smoother. I'd call it less panic steering, where you just are sawing at the wheel with no idea what is happening. You guys are dialing in the set up to allow you a better feel for what the car wants and needs. You are also improving on just HOW to handle the car. The year hasn't produced the results you'd like , true. I think stay positive , appreciate the gains you have made and keep on keepin' on. No doubt you belong. You CAN do this. Be patient Grasshopper ,it just takes time and patients.

I was in the stands cheering you on and it all happened so fast! I didn’t realize I had jumped from my seat to the front aisle and I was on my knees praying. When they announced you were ok there was this relief and realization that I was indeed out of my seat. All I heard..” is that your boy?” I said no but I’m a mama and I’ll claim him. Growing up in a race family and having no local drivers of our own anymore, I’ll indeed keep cheering you on. I’m glad you made it back out for the rest of the weekend, even though it was a tough one. You are well on your way up! I look forward to your next race.

Bad, bad deal Kiddo. I knew you'd be shaken up, so decide to not come back to the pits that night. Glad Austen is on the road to recovery. Watched a few different vids of the wreck and there wasn't anything you could have done. So don't beat yourself up on that.

I was thinking the same thing. Nowhere to go, and happened in a hurry. The other video didn’t do any justice to how fast it unfolded and his blocked view. I have been waiting to see this angle.

First Tanner so so thankful your physically ok and weren't hurt any worse than you were, 2nd also glad Austen will at some point will be OK and back behind the wheel. God was definitely looking out for both of you. Mentally it looks like this took its toll on you and actually had me alittle teary eyed at the end of the video. It all happened so fast that there's nothing you could have done to avoid what looked to be a vicious accident. Your emotions at the end of the video showed all of us how Great a young man you are. Prayers to Austen on a full and complete recovery. Love ya little buddy!

Tanner I want to say that you have great skills driving and I know you would NEVER intentionally hit or wreck anyone and as hard as you hope and pray there are wrecks that happen that are unavoidable and this was definitely unavoidable!! I'm proud of you for being concerned about your fellow driver and in you think your hit was hard, your competitor took 3 hard hits and I commend you on your concern for your fellow competitor and for keeping him in your prayers 🙏 That speaks volumes on what a wonderful human being you are. This truly was an unavoidable racing accident. They happen. Hang in there and keep praying and you will succeed not only in racing but in life. 👍😁🤗❤️🙏 Keep being you because you are awesome 😎🤗❤️🙏

You will probably be soar which is normal when your in a car wreck. If you start not feeling good always seek medical attention. But you look good , i could tell you were soar. i would just take it easy. good luck for night #2. You got this and you can do it.

Glad you came out ok, I think us here, you're extended family, were worried for you as well as Austen. Glad to hear he'll be ok too. I'm guessing his 1st hit is what caused his injuries. It was the same type of full speed head on hit I took that sent me to a trauma center, unable to walk for 2 months and ended my racing career so very happy that Austen will be ok. Very good job to end the long week on a positive too.

You did a great job at Skagit. The hits were costly and unpleasant but you came back and got into the top 15 on Saturday. Skagit is notorious for hard crashes because it is such high speed. You are getting a lot of laps in, you have good equipment, you are learning to setup and fix the car -- it's all part of racing. Sure wish I had gone up to the race. Hopefully the Hip National Bank has you covered -- wings and axles aren't cheap.

I for some reason late in the feature got down from my seat and walked over to the pit fence right infront of 3. It just so happened that that was the restart right before the crash. I remember being worried for austin after seeing him get shoved towards the pit entrance wall pretty much dead on and before I could even process what just fully happened I saw your car come out of no where and hit him. The youtube channel
Cali Dirt Video caught wreck on camera from a really good angle and you could see me react to each hit seperately. I couldnt believe what I witnessed I really thought austin was seriously hurt, so glad you and him are fine. Can't believe austin didnt get a concussion in all of that

You gotta be glad you r ok and still in one piece to race tanner.and thank the guy upstairs for this one.. you know once you have to start in the rear anything can happen and the race is really goin on without you so it turns into self defense more than a real race .. not a night to really race but a nightmare to drive thru ... So many fast cars top drivers and a much faster track than Chico.. you gotta be way more reserved and count a night gone and go only for points with a stay alive attitude.. it's no diff than cart racing if you are behind 5 it's stay alive... Especially when you know there are three or more slow guys up in front somehow.... But in this case there were what 4 cars that were in wrecks caused by driver error and probably driving over their head and not being as aware ... You were just a passer by that had nowhere or notime to do much. You were very lucky.. stuff like that is why I would call it quits before Id race again and be gunshy if not ...so alot of races are just over before you start so to speak and just race to finish and put yourself into a mode that is safer to keep you and your car in one piece for the next event.. this is not gonna be a very profitable outcome for you now .. so just settle down count your blessings and get in some drive time.. as expensive as those cars are u canalways buy another but it's you that can't ..... So what I'm saying is unless you have a tree in your backyard that produces sprintcars.. just know when it's time to fold and wait for the next deal... It's life or death in those cars pretty fast and only the strongest or fastest live to fight again... you are gonna have alot of battles before you win the war usually and the most important thing is to stay alive under any and all conditions... I would consider yourself as fast as any already tanner it's all a matter of keeping alive in those gladiator battles.. and knowing what you want to risk... You are a smart racer and there is as you know something to learn from this one..Be careful and think just where you are in your career and settle in ... You don't need to push yourself to the limit all the time ... Concentrate and become more smooth in these type of situations and just race to grow in your confidence and skill. You are are already naturally fearless so it's just a matter of time to hone in on yourself physically and mentally when the odds seem against you especially so with the competition that's out there now.. you can do it just stay wise and aware of the night.. just like how you keep track of the tracks changing conditions.... There are still many races to go for you..the most important thing is for you to be there for them ..and ps . Don't forget to say that prayer for yourself beforehand.. you have come a long way very quickly . I just want to see you succeed in this type of racing without getting hurt .. Ijust know I woulda quit when I was your age and not put my life to risk in a sprint car after seeing such narly lookin accidents that seemed to happen the same way at least once a year growing up in Knoxville Iowa... After watching the third one I said to myself nothanks too many crazy drivers around me to feel I could even feel comfortable to race around.. F1 motorcycles or nascar I would be ok with tanner but what you race no way hose brother. Drive safe somehow in those... You really need lady luck in your kinda racing... If you need some cash to give her I gotta few bucks you can have... I hear she eats up money like it's going outa style tanner... You and Carly both take care out there and be smarter than you may need to win the war.... U definitely don't want to get hurt if you can help it... You are still young and have a long time to go in this particular niche of car racing... And don't forget to water that 🎄🎄 in your back yard that grows sprintcars.lol... good 🤞😊.

Skagit was a home track to me although I never raced we lived in Surrey, BC which is just across the Canadian border so this was one of the tracks we went to alot. Funny thing is we found it because of the rest area on I-5 nearby we could hear race cars on a Saturday night I forget where we even were going but we went to the track and enjoyed it many times after I meet and have a picture of Kasey Kahnes sprint car

Very glad to hear you're ok man; it was definitely a big hit. Visibility certainly doesn't look the greatest from your camera and its up higher than your viewpoint. I have been told a lack of visibility is the hardest thing involved when racing sprintcars from drivers. Also on a lighter note; it's more repairs for you guys. You and your old man will be able to centre the diff by eye soon 👌😁 These things are part and parcel of motor racing unfortunately. Its very impressive to see the amount of effort and time that smaller teams put in to racing; gotta take my hat off to you guys. Keep on racing and I hope you will do a video of the car strip down to assess the damage (like past videos). What months of the year is your typical season of sprintcar racing btw?

I have to say though one of the things that I love about midget and sprint cars is how safe they are. When you can hit and get hit that hard a still survive that is a great thing. I'm glad to see that you Tanner are ok and will obviously continue to get better on your way back to being 100 percent. I'm curious how does your family react and handle you being in wrecks like that? Thank you for sharing this video with us. Have fun take care

My mom struggles with it for sure. The wrecks are scary for sure, and it stuns them just as much as me. Will maybe talk about something in a video about that.
And Austen is recovering still. He has a road ahead of him, but is expected to heal.

@@TannerHolmes I thought so. I met my best friends from my childhood in Lemore, Ca. At the Lemore jet bowl. Not sure if it's still called that lol. Anyways their uncle raced full Midgets when we met them. Fast forward to many years later at Madera it's a 1/3mi. paved track their uncle got into one heck of a bad accident with flips and the whole 9yards I remember my mom think thinking that we needed to get his mom away from where she could see what was going on directly. Boy she was scared as hell that one of her babies was hurt real bad. But after a little bit the announcement was as made that his was ok and obviously going to be taken to Madera General hospital for further evaluation. Needless to say we all breathed a heck of a lot easier hearing that. Of course his parents went to the hospital while the rest of the team gathered up the car and the gear and headed back to Fresno where we all lived. He came out all ok though.

Wow! Having seen the video from Cali Dirt the day it happened, I was dreading seeing your Vblog about it. That in car footage really showed how sudden it was.
You said you felt stunned for an hour afterwards.....that feeling is actually a medical condition called "shock" that the brain puts you into when there major trauma to the body. It's normal but, also needs to be medically assessed. Were you examined by a doctor afterwards? I certainly hope so. You will start to feel the the affects of it a few days later. Wishing you well from Australia.

I was checked out by the staff at the track but not at a hospital. The shock was real. Luckily I was alright, not even that sore!

In the racing world wrecks happen I've been at two different tracks when 2 drivers were fatally injured and last night I was at Lebanon Valley Speedway for a 44 lap feature. Before the first lap was completed a driver named L.J. Lombardo on the front row was running side by side going down the backstretch Lombardo pinched the guy on the outside into the wall causing a end over end flip all the big block modifieds on the front were involved except Lombardo who caused massive amounts of damage taking out half the field. A bad call of L.V. officials allowed Lombardo to continue but happy to announce no one was injured surprisingly!!! Eventhough machinery and metal were flying all over the place causing officials to be running all over the place and sirens screaming it was the worst crash I've seen at L.V. since the last crash in the same area where another driver was killed many years ago. I was there also. When the crash started I preyed Lord Jesus protect them. Thankfully race cars have become much safer through the years.

Hi from New Zealand again, a question, what is around your right foot in the qualifying footage ?

    • @TannerHolmes
      @TannerHolmes  2 роки тому

That is Just how the pedal is built. Or if you are talking about next too it : that would be the fuel pump, and torque tube

Tanner, I dreaded you having to do this video and reliving the accident. I found Austen Wheatleys very brave update early the next morning out of concern...for both of you. But I am not a driver, only a fan so no encouragement cliché', platitudes or euphemisms from me. God bless you both.
