Fun fact: Goro Taniguchi (director and one of the creators) originally planned for Code Geass to be set on another planet and scrapped the idea because he feared that Japanese public wouldn't understand or watch the show because it was science fiction. It was then that it was decided that CG would be set on Earth. For the same reason, the original antagonists of Code Geass changed. The antagonists were considered to be Africa or Australia, but the U.S. was chosen because it was easier for the Japanese public to understand it that way. Taniguchi added that it wasn't fun to have America invade Japan and that's it, so the creators had the English invade the U.S. first (previously Spain and Portugal were considered the conquerors).
Another less interesting, but more fun, fun fact: around the time I saw Code Geass for the first time, I had signed up for a (terrible) elective on violence and for the exam that dealt with the role of violence in the formation of a nation and the identity of the citizens (if I remember correctly), I took Suzaku and Lelouch's response from this episode as the core of my essay. It went well :)
I ended one of my college essays that was supposed to be about art with the School Days ending. I think it confused the teacher enough to give me an A.
@@DoggyP00 That is one intense power move, my hat off to you
I remember one time we were reading a typical hero's journey book in literature class where right before the teenage MC leaves his home castle, his mother tells him a plot relevant thing and gives him the story's mcguffin, and we were told at one point to imagine a longer conversation between the two after that initial line. I ended up completely ripping off Schmi's last words to kid Ani in Phantom Menace as well as Venom Snake's farewell speech to his cremated soldiers in MGSV, and no one caught on to this bullshit. I got the best grade on that assignment, and the teacher ended up reading it to the class 😂
@@DoggyP00 lol I ripped the plot of Madoka Magika and shoved it into my passing exam not sure how the hell I got the english merit for my cohort but I'll take it.
Btw, does anyone know the OST or the track which plays from 6:48-7:40? I really like this track but can't find it
@@r-aviation2049it’s called ‘Boy from Britannia’, ‘Pessimistic Time’ uses the same melody.
Damn, Lelouch is out here funding the fast fashion industry.
Lelouch just pulled the biggest "Bet" of all time as soon as Zero was allowed to leave.
Not as spectacular as the time he did 9/11 to assassinate one dude, but definitely one of most insane plans in the entire series
Now though, I can't wait to see their reaction to him crashing a wedding and kidnapping an empress ^^
woah i see your comments a lot. kudos to you for being a fan!
It was chekmate not a bet. If they do massacre, new rebellion will be start immediately
1 Million X 0 is still Zero!!
Which is why they're all Zero now
Suzaku saved 1 million lives, and no one will ever thank him for it....
And in the end.... He will be.
By "you're Japanese no matter where you are" he means they don't need a "special zone" to be Japanese. They will always be Japanese. No matter what.
It wasn't about the Special Zone. It was about leaving Japan. He said that as the final push to convince everyone to leave the country with him.
I just realized that the ice berg can also represent the theorized ice bridge that natives used to move from eurasia into finding n.america.
Which makes more sense considering what Zero decides to create after this lol
It would be some cool symbolism if it was intentional. Still, I must point out that this theory has been mostly disproved in recent years, about the same time that the scientific community came around to the fact that it was based on hella racist mindsets that wanted to erase native history and culture. Which is exactly what Brittania does come to think of it, so it being done by Zero is quite ironic I guess
they're getting into the absolute lunacy of this show now, and I'm along for the ride!
To quote a certain pirate film: "This is madness!" "This is politics."
Lunacy? This, Is art!
Oh I really love this episode! It has a more hopeful and cheerful tone that contrasts markedly with the tone of the previous episode which was quite somber and depressive, although it ended on a happy note. This episode features one of Lelouch's best tricks, which, in turn, exemplifies Lelouch's cunning in taking advantage of loopholes in the condition he put in place. It's not a perfect plan. On the contrary, it was a risky plan since it depended on Suzaku's permission and its granting represented a suspicious move on Zero's part. Still, the plan came true thanks to Lelouch and Suzaku and this brings us back to a statement that was made last season: "Lelouch and Suzaku are capable of achieving anything together." Suzaku/Nunnally's and Lelouch candles floating in the water together are a symbolic representation of said idea and a reminder that they want the same thing: a peaceful and gentle world, honoring Nunnally and Euphemia's dream in this way (oh, If only freedom were obtained through peaceful negotiation, without shedding blood...!). Technically, the narrative of this episode consists of respecting the wishes of Euphemia and Nunnally and that is why the series brings back Nina to remind us that Euphemia is the motivation for her revenge (also in her brief scene we see that Lelouch isn't the only good manipulator ...)
The SAZ was a bad idea before and it still is now. I won't explain why because the series, other subscribers and I already explained it at the time. Instead, I will say what the failure of the SAZ meant the first time. The SAZ was welcomed at first as there were many Japanese like Suzaku who preferred to work with Britannia rather than risk losing everything for the slightest chance of success for the Black Rebellion. The massacre that occurred sent a message to all Japanese: "Trying to find a better life for yourself under Britannia means facing death." Hence everyone joined the final battle. They understood that they had no choice but to fight to live (because of Zero). But they lost the battle (because of Zero x2) and Area 11 was demoted to a correctional area and the repression worsened. With this in mind, it's logical that the Japanese think that Britannia is making fun of them again with this reopening.
Although Zero is Lelouch's alter-ego, he has a certain evolution, as he begins as a tool of Lelouch and becomes his own character (I'm trying to be careful with my words since I don't want to make the mistake of many of treating Zero and Lelouch as two different personalities). He went from being a terrorist to being an ally of justice, then to being the leader of the largest rebel organization against Britannia and finally being a symbol, but of what? Every symbol must represent something different from what it is and in the case of Zero we will find the answer later.
Lastly, I feel like it's kind of a mistake on the creators' part that the entire Student Council remembers Kallen, but in the first episode of R2 the forgetful Lelouch has no idea who she is when Kallen bumps into him (Charles erased her from his memory because she was linked to the rebellion?). Anyway, it's not a serious mistake and it's nice to see that her friends care about her, just like Kallen cared about them in S1.
Now that you mention it, I suppose the others remembering Kallen but not Lelouch was probably an oversight from the writers. But I think it can be worked around to make sense in context. Charles geassed Lelouch to forget about being Zero, and that in turn meant forgetting all memories of the Black Knights, so maybe it unintentionally erased not just the memories of Kozouki Kallen but of Kallen Stadfeldt as well, whereas he only geassed his friends to forget about anything they personally knew about Zero, so their memories of the other Black Knights were probably untouched. But then, Suzaku doesn't pick up on this discrepancy when Lelouch reacts normally to the mention of Kallen in this episode. In the end, it has the amusing side effect of making him and Charles look a little more inattentive, which is very much in line with their characters ^^
"how did he get the all outfits"
that's easy, with a million volunteers you have 2 million hands.
and that's not even counting the supporters who stay behind
Excellent point
They have a huge military submarine and a flying mech too, besides the support of at least half the Japanese/Elevens and ties with India and China. Funding and labour are not lacking
Getting it overnight is a bit sketch, but I'm willing to let it slide.
@@janejvmmsvictoria5857 I mean, the ceremony probably happened at least a week after the battle at sea, so definitely more than enough time
They are supported by india and china. India also had a huge textile industry ig and both india and China had 1 billion people each so alot of cheap labour
One limportant but easy-to-miss detail: Sayako knows Zero is Lelouch now, since he purposefully took off his mask in front of her!
Yes, they talked about and even rewound to confirm that.
Kenny pointed that out himself in this video
I think its nice that Lelouch trusts Sayako enough to reveal himself.
This is one of the most brilliant tactician move in entire series and in the history of anime. It's really almost impossible to predict that outcome watching that in first time. Unbelievable masterminds are creators of Code Geass!
In my opinion they don't do make such amazing and brilliant anime anymore.
Now let's see your reaction in Chinese Federation Arc and after that we will gettting close to the final. We'll receive more answers to mysteries of this show and it'll become quite confusing. Analytical mind and knowledge from philosophy is really helpful to understand it and then it's possible to see even more brilliance in this show!
Only thing I'm bothered by is that they never asked who Zero was. "We can exile Zero, but how do we know who you are to only exile you?" is a completely valid question that would be brought up in any legal matter. I don't see any logical reason why no one would ask except the meta reason that it would ruin the twist. Especially after Zero brought up the matter that he took measures to make the meeting a secret. Zero probably could've thought of an answer, but they didn't bother writing it because it would make it so much easier to guess what Zero would do. That kinda takes away from it for me.
@@johndinner4418 I mean, they all knew he wouldn't tell them, so they probably expected him to either show up in the suit or to just disappear quietly. Of course, for all they knew, he could actually have stayed without wearing the suit and mask, but I think it's in character for those damn Brittanians not to consider this. After all, one of the reasons why Zero almost always beats them is because unlike him, they never stop to consider more than a single possible outcome. The only one who did was Cornelia, and she almost beat him three different times, with him only escaping defeat due to either luck or planning for every possibility, as he is known to do :3
@@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian That's fair, but I think before, it hadn't happened because under any criminal system catching Zero doesn't require you to know his identity because you'll just unmask him during a time he'd be breaking britanninan law/rule. Wearing a costume doesn't save you from being judged for past crimes. But it IS required for exile, like, for any paperwork to happen. "Zero" won't work in a contract unless it's their name by law. Like, they can't go past step 1 without it, so it'd be weird to not try asking at all when that's like, the first requirement to exile. Or at least, to push back for it. After all, he's also signing peace with it, right? If he wants exile and his true purpose was peace it's only natural he'd reveal his person too when asked. Not to even push for it when they've always underestimated him and never learn is a weird thing to do, considering asking for it would be the "underestimating" as it would be the obvious thing to do for the situation.
9:21
I think it was an awkward translation moment but in japanese it probably would have been "maybe so" or "I wonder if that's true"
So he said "yes I wonder" I think means "I wonder if I do miss those things"
I think ^
This episode was the reason for all the references to the number "1 million" during the series preview period. We're all Zero!
Zero's Million Man March is such an incredible ploy!
It was truly only possible by knowing the characters of everyone involved. And now he has his force to change the world!
The song as the exiles left (Across The Borderline) from the soundtrack is so beautiful...so hopeful, majestic, and ethereal... It's one of my favorite pieces on the OST. The entire album inspires me as I work on my manga. ❤
What a episode gave me goosebumps can't wait for more
Every time when i see table girl i'm triggered.
same i hate her as a character
@@falsnamae3511 I still hate her as a character especially since she was willing to blow up everyone with her unhealthy Obsession for the princess and then there's her questionable scene with the table which is just like why cuz she's not even a very attractive character and of course there's other things that come later I just don't like her no matter what perspective she offers
Kallen: Hey Zero, how'd you get all these outfits so quickly?
Zero: Well they're a pain to wash so I just had one made for every time I needed to get dressed.
Kallen: So are we wearing your spares or your dirty outfits?
Zero: ...
Kallen: ...
Ohgi: ...
Todoh: ...
Kaguya: *DEEP SNIFF*
Bruh, sounds like actual code Ment Dialog
Probably Kallen would try to sniff but she would catch herself midway.
I think Sayako was the second person Lelouch voluntarily revealed his identity as Zero to. (Third if you count Euphemia, but it isn't really revealing it when she just called him by name)
Eliminate. Britannia.
This was Lelouch’s stated goal from episode one. Not “expunge the Britannian presence from Japan.” The downfall of the entire empire, globally, has always been his goal, for the sake of Nunnally’s happy life. Nunnally being safe within Britannian hands changes nothing, and taking his war against Britannia global is not a new goal.
Has anyone every told u guys that ur wife looks like that blondie from vampire diaries
Even the clothes albiet still corny twist kinda makes sense bc they stated earlier the blank knights were a pop icon . The kid that got yelled at for playing a black knight.
Thumbnail 🤩🔥🔥
THIS is what Suzaku haters seem to miss about him: he wants to kill himself, and is NOT ALLOWED TO. And that is LITERALLY DRIVING HIM CRAZY, POSSIBLY EVEN INSANE.
At first he wanted to kill himself via dying in the line of duty (because of the trauma of having murdered his father and having to deal with the guilt that it didnt even save Japan anyway), then after Euphy he just wanted to off himself normally, and HE CAN'T. OF COURSE he turns into a fucking villain, literally everyone would
But isn't he running and not taking responsibility of making things right for the mistakes he has made
i know this about him and still hate him as a character lmao
That's a reason to dislike him imo. Suzaku wants to kill himself, he actively desires to abandon his people to their own luck *again*, even when he fully knows he is the only one in Britannia able to make a difference at this point (if we ignore Zero, of course). Is he constantly driven into situations he doesn't want to be into? Yeah, but he is also very actively pursuing the only man who could help his people even though he doesn't wish to do it himself. I think both Lelouch and Suzaku eventually reach a point where both of them realize they are needed (up to a point), and exactly what their role in this world should be. But he takes a while to get there.
By the way I don't dislike Suzaku, I think he is a pretty interesting and complex character, but I also understand why people could dislike him as a person.
@@khushbhandari2569 He's literally doing that in his own way. He has power now to change things around. Never liked him much, as he's one of the most flawed characters in the show, but gonna give credit when credit its due.
@@neoshenlong most people also don't dislike Suzaku but yeah him not really understanding consequences of his actions (before euphy's death) is what gets on my nerve
Suzaku is not inmortal. The geass simply makes him do anything to survive something. Suzaku wants to die so Lelouch geassing him that way was cruel
Happy marriage life 🎉🎉🎉
Code Geass: V for Vendetta
Britannian’s stop being racist challenge: impossible

No, you dont get to just rewind the show so you can have more time to think about the twist and add 1 point to the genius counter dude. That ruins the while point
Love the small moment where Lelouch reveals himself to be Zero to Sayoko, who only smiles in understanding. Almost as if there's no one else he could be
Milly: Zero is more than an idol now... He's a symbol.
Lelouch really played this well for his miracles.
17:00 Classic Letts moment where they rewind, pause, discuss and speculate when all their questions and confusion would be answered in 10 seconds if they just kept watching.
Wouldn't be them otherwise
The in-episode discussions are part of the charm imo, even if that does indeed happen at times
THANK YOU !!! I thought I was the only one annoyed by this and it's almost ALWAYS Kenny who won't stop talking or talks during pivotal points in the show
I think that’s what makes them so fun though.
My brain isn’t moving like that when I watch, seeing them actively process info each second and being right so often is very cool imo ❤️🔥
@@heneedsomemilk4194 You know you can just go watch the series yourself, right? Try it, I bet your viewing experience would be much happier
"yes, I wonder" is just bad translation, in this co text it's more like "maybe, I'm not sure."
Million zeros, so ridiculous and epic st same time how they pulled it off
If they not, it will be a new rebelion
This is probably the biggest play Lelouch makes in the entire show. Outside of the ending, that is.
One of my favorite episodes
This was the first episode i caught. Tv at work was on Cartoon Network randomly, and this just sunk its teeth in me with a quickness.
I'm surprised they were so stuck on how they got those outfits like they didn't see all those ppl with bags lol
This is more evidence of Suzaku's hypocrisy and just how full of it he is. While he ultimately does let everyone go, he was on the verge of letting 1,000,000 people die just so he could have the satisfaction of killing Zero. This coming from Mr. I don't want to let anyone die and will kill to keep people alive, he now borderline said screw all that as long as the person I want dies, all while condemning Lelouch and the Black Knights for killing in an attempt to no longer be slaves.
4:06 japanese media questioning japanese nationality ,so is meta.
Rewatching 15x at different ages.
Lelouch is pull of the greatest apologies with spoilers.
Guys you should really react to blood of zues
That show ended up being much better than I expected it to be
