- Win 5kg of our carp catching boilies of your choice - Atlantic heat, Royal Marine or our Monster Red boilies. All you need to do is watch the underwater chapter and guess my weight in kilos and leave your answer in a comment on this video. I've been on a diet this summer but the person who guesses right or closes will be the winner!
The summer has gone so fast but in this episode I recall a special big carp capture before getting the snorkel on and swimming with big carp under water in what was a fascinating afternoon. I managed to film spots, rubbing sticks and make friends with a pod of very inquisitive carp. I also discuss the uses of oil in a carp bait and finish off with a conclusion from filming with Korda for a up and coming Thinking Tackle episode.
If you'd like more information about Baitworks and the baits we produce you can find us at - www.baitworks....
What a brilliant diary piece Mark. Seeing the gopro footage of the carp swimming around while you're swimming around yourself was immense. The explanation of using oils and dips was really useful, I have been using this tackttic for a few years now but you have certainly opened my eyes. Congrats on catching that chunk 👏👌can't wait for the next one. Oh, loving the podcasts too. 🎣🎣👍
Cheers Kurt, glad you enjoyed it mate.
Mark just loved the underwater filming just goes to show all the little hiding spots in a lake -great old carp on the bank good stuff fella 👍👍
Indeed Paul, its fascinating mate.
Great insight into how oil's act and how much we take for gratitude over the bottom, lovely old fish, keep them coming.
Cheers Dave, yes oils are great when mixed with soluble food liquids as they act as a vehicle and take the food up through the layers.
[First of all the weight 69Kg] Second the close up underwater GoPro wow opens your eye's really enjoy all the podcast and diary pieces you and Mike do all the info you give is so helpful cheer's for that keep up the excellent pieces of work
Glad you enjoy them mate, thanks for the kind feedback also.
Watched time and time again fascinating into the underworld of the carp, thank you Mart
Thank you Brett.
Excellent dairy piece. It’s a strange part of Carp fishing while we care so much about these beautiful fish we still put them through a lot of stress when we catch them. I guess it’s all about balance and we give them the care they deserve for the pleasure they give us.
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it mate. indeed we need to look after them all, big or small.
I have watched all your bait maker videos they are truly awesome 👍
Thank you Daz, thats very kind.
Great diary piece look forward to next one
Cheers Matt

Always a pleasure.......dunno about that smug kettle though......

Seeing you come out of the lake after snorkelling was like James Bond coming out of the sea in one of his movies...😂😂 Great stuff as ever Mark. Awesome underwater footage and some great fish caught - well done!
Ha ha, ill take that!! James bond after a few pies...
I only have a short time to fish these days and the more tips that you provide to get the most out of you baits are greatly received , interesting view with the oil leakage in the colder months ,
Now the serious bit , my guesstimate is 97kg
Cheers Andrew, yes understanding oils is a good string to your bow mate.
Fascinating, really enjoyed that, well done Mark and Mike, keep them coming boys!
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew, cheers fella.
makes me think now on how to use glugs and different oils in the colder months, great video Mark
Glad you enjoyed it Adrian
Mark..just watched this and you brought up a subject I've debated bankside loads over the years...oils and more importantly oil trails..do you believe carp follow the oil trail to its source or to where the wind/surface tow or undertow are taking it???..
As in when the winds blowing hard you get on the end of it as that's where the naturals are been blown and the carp follow..generally..
Surely that's the same with the oil trails ..they follow where there going to..not where they are coming from like sharks would for instance ....on the surface oily floaters end up getting fish feeding away from where they go in and you find yourself chasing the carp down the lake as the oil/mixers drift..feeding oiled up bottom baits drives the fish the same surely??? Debate....great video content again by the way..jp
Hi Mate, good question. Its not the oil they follow as I mentioned its the other products defused in the oil that leak off. The oil is used to lift these products off the bottom. Now heavy food liquids will rise and get carried off with the oil but I don't think they will stay with the oil for ever. They will disperse out the oil etc and thats when the carp may detect them. Lets not forget the baited area will also be pumping out food signals also to attract them to the hook bait. Good debate for sure, but I know the oil/mixed with heavy liquid foods is a great method for sure.
Great video. Fantastic footage of the carp underwater. Congrats on both your captures in the video👍
Thanks for the feedback Andrew.
Amazing mate! Absolutely love watching these, cannot wait for the next one!!!

Talk about loving your self
Amazing diary again Mark, swimming with carp looked epic, loved learning about how liquids work too towards the end 👊😁🎣
Cheers Will
Lovely piece and great footage. I regularly open water swim in 1 lake that I can also fish, I do wonder how ‘leading about’ can learn anything like as much as actually swimming over the spots. I’d love to be able to swim in some of the others I have tickets for. If you Get yourself a swimming wetsuit (they can be got for under 100notes) and you should be good to swim in a wider range of water temps. Fab diary piece. 👍🏻
Thank you Ben, yes its a fascinating experience. So much to learn!
Great bit of filming Mark Love it. great footage thank you

Mark absolutely stunning video. Just finished listening to all the baitwork podcasts. Helped me get through my working day and inspired me%
I’m from Bristol just wondering if you know of any good lakes in the Bristol area as I’m struggling to find any good ones.
Hope you can help a fellowBristolian
Hi Jamie, glad you enjoyed them mate. Sadly lakes around Bristol are few and far between. Hunstrete lake is about as good as it gets mate. Mostly days only, they do allow the od night weekend. Plenty of carp, a good handful of thirties and I believe a forty these days. Its ran by Bathampton so look them up. Failing that you'll need to probably travel to the Cotswolds to find more choices mate. All the best.
Thanks for taking your time to reply, yes the fishing lakes choices around Bristol isn’t brilliant. I have fished hunstrete and newton park on the bathhampton licence a number of times. What day ticket lakes would you recommend on the water park? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. All the very best and thanks for your time
Tight lines
If your looking for a biggest lake with a few more challenges then the Carp Society Horeshoe lake is well worth a look Jamie. Once you join the society is only £1 per hour to fish the lake also.
Thanks for the suggestion mate, I’ll have a look on the website and go for a few laps of the lake.
Wish u all the best

Fantastic video as always 👋👋
Thanks Ryan, glad you enjoyed it mate.
I like your videos, it's amazin...

Cor, guess the weight...if I knew your height I could get closer. Another cracking video. I think 82kg.
Im 5.10 Joe.
@@BaitworksTV I may drop you 2 kgs then...if only it was that easy to drop the weight!!
Nice mate , lovely ..
Great Video as always, I reckon 77.5kg
Cheers Jack
Awesome video! Now I really want to focus on how my line-lay is presented, something i deffo haven’t paid as much attention to as I should have. This has also given me the confidence I was lacking when using oils in the colder months. What an epic story to open the video with too, well done mate. Maybe in the next instalment we will get a mention of the creamino we’ve all been waiting for👀 thank you for the awesome detailed information as well as producing kick ass baits
Glad you enjoyed it Andy, thanks for the feedback mate.
Love the video's mark extremely interesting, but can't help thinking with the state of the oceans today, should we still be using fish meal baits, to feed fish of which there are millions. The carp fishing industry must use hundreds of tonnes of sea fish meal baits every year, can we really justify it
brilliant video, well done, My guess is 88kg
Nice video
Im saying 79kg. Great video!
Cheers Alex
well done my friend!!

Mark listen I wasnt knocking you in any way shape or form. I did find it interesting. I was just saying that these videos not only yours just dont grab ya like a Terry hearn or a bowler video. But found the oil information interesting. 👍
