That was my song for my son. Years ago he was in a coma and now has a traumatic brain injury and took 7 years for him to relearn but he has always and still can sing it word for word. Tell your children you love them every day. ❤️
I wish the best for you and especially your son.
Peace and Love to your family!!! Love from Canada 🇨🇦
Always played it for my Son, and told him to really listen to it. I wanted him to have a good simple life. Thank God he has that now 🙏
Peace and Love to you, and your Son
Good lord. My prayers go directly to your family but especially your son. Wow I'm tearing up. Stay strong and tell him that some 50 year old Canadian man is thinking of him. God bless you and yours. Sincerely Christopher Marsden.
Glad your son is better. God Bless him, and you and all of your loved ones.
I love how she tells him to not only understand himself, but to love himself as well. I mean, that’s two things that so many people struggle with. Wise mama. ❤️
It touches me everytime I hear it..One of the greatest songs ever written.
R.I.P. Ronnie,, Steve,, Cassie,, Dean,, Walter & William 🙏 ❤
I've been listening to Lynard Skynard for over 40 years and just now watching y'all's reaction plus hearing "Simple Man" gives me the same emotions I felt the first time I heard it back in high school! Perfect song with a legendary message!
We moved to Jacksonville about 3 years before the crash, we used to be able to go to the park and hear them play, just because they could and Jax was their home town. They were judged a lot because of their pride in that southern flag as a southern band, yet were as far from racist as anyone can get...
Lol - in those 40 years of your listening to this one of a kind amazing band, I would have expected your comment would have made damn sure you spelled their Band's name correctly.
👉 No Vowels 👈
Leonard Skynyrd,
“The Ballad of Curtis Loew”, “That Smell“, “Tuesday’s Gone”,
“Call Me theBreeze” “Saturday Night Special” and 100 more.
The lead singer Ronnie wrote all his songs from life experiences. Great band. Their history is an amazing story
And he didn't believe in writing his lyrics down until they the band recorded it,cause he said he couldn't remember them then they were not that important!❤
I hope I said that right
❤
They’re the best, in my humble, southern opinion.
This was the song my wife played for her son over and over as he was growing up and what she asked of him. While on his first overseas deployment in the Army he had a chance to call home one night. When she answered she said hello and nothing more. I looked over at her and she was tearing up but not speaking. After a couple minutes she said "I love you and am so proud you" and hung up. I asked what that was about and she said it was her son and he said "I only have a few minutes mom, just listen to this". He played this song then said "I listened to you and love you mom. Don't worry about me." Then had to hang up.
That really touched me. What a beautiful, meaningful moment between a mother and son. I am still so crushed about the plane crash (& SRV)... such a monumental loss that I still feel to this day. But it makes me so happy that they left such a strong impact.
Zak, I pray your wife's son is back, thank him , thank you and your wife. God bless you. it really got me. I usually don't tear up, it did. thank you again it hit home
Gimme back my bullets, Saturday night special, that smell, needle n the spoon,Curtis lo many more hits, Tuesdays gone another one
I love that both of you showed just as much emotion with the guitar solo as the lyrics. The music talks just as much as the words.
This is a really really really really good point. They aren’t faking it. They actually like that shit. I love it so much.
I Absolutely Love this song, have raised my 3 sons to abide by this song, ALWAYS!! They are now adults & wonderful, kind men!! 🥰💕❤️🤗
You should try "The Needle and the Spoon" or "That Smell". Both songs are 70's interventions done Skynyrd style!
Or on the hunt lol
Hell yeah! That's what I'm talking about, great suggestions ✌️😎🎼🤘👍
Yes, yes, yes....
Are y'all new to Lynyrd skynyrd?!
I suggest you dive into skynyrd, you won't be disappointed
On my 16th birthday my mom gave me a cassette tape of the pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd album and a matchbox Porsche. There was a card with breakfast. A note inside the card said listen to Simple Man first and I wish I could give you this car. Outside was my dad’s old work car with a bad transmission and a big red bow on it. That was the cleanest and shinyiest it had been in years. On that day Simple Man became my most favorite song ever. Just months after my 19th birthday she died of cancer. I miss her every bit as much today as I did at funeral. God I really wish she had the chance to know her grandchild. Love and miss you momma
I've probably listened to this song a thousand times over fifty years and it still gives me goosebumps.
Another beautiful couple with beautiful souls. Y'all keep up the great work.
The singer Ronnie VanZant and a few members died in a plane crash, they still play now with Ronnie’s twin brother Johnny VanZant as the singer.
LYNYRD SKYNYRD "ON THE HUNT"...NUFF SAID.
Loved your video reaction huge fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd .and I'm an old guy almost 58 grew up on them my favorite band. And this is my absolute favorite song. It brings joy to my heart and tear to my eye.
50-60 yrs ago we were telling ourselves this and it got forgotten.
With 3 boys I have shed tears to this song many times.
This is not only one of the most beautiful songs of all time, but also the best advice anyone could give or follow.
I would always want my strive to be the best he can be. But always be a simple man at heart. Never forget your humanity no matter who you are. Be something you can love an understand, regardless of who you are.
Every reaction I watch of ya'll, music takes ya'll to church. Especially Mel. I fell like I'm sitting beside her when the Holy Ghost breaks out 🤣 another great reaction
Guys I lost my mom when I was 12 so this song means a lot to me best advice I ever had it’s so moving
Mama teach your children well, be kind, courteous, and loving
That 3 guitar attack with Gary rossington, Steve gains and Allen Collins. The absolute best.
Feeling those Florida vibes☺
Good Southern living & loving💞
Many SKYNYRD songs have real life messages All I can do is write about it, that smell, things going on, four walls of raiford, mr. Banker and too many more.
I've been listening to it since the 70s and it never ever gets old even though it will be 50 next year.
Awesome band. Also check out: Gimme Back My Bulllets, The Hunt, Call Me The Breeze. There are so many great songs, but those are my favorites.
I appreciate this song more and more as I get older. Didn't realize, as a teenager the meaning when I was hearing it for the first time back in the day.
So many people are always looking for so much more...be a simple man...be happy with who you are and be happy with what God gave you
Please do " the balad of Curtis Lowe" by these guys. Great song and story telling
one of the best band ever. music for heaven my ears.
You're an awesome couple. And that's a great song, great "mom-advice."
Every child needs to hear this.
That’s not advice….that’s wisdom
It touches all of us raised up on that real life.
2/3rds of America never had this woman sitting them down and tell them. Momma is saying now you gotta go get yours. God Bless the People That Get This.
Being 62 now and raising 3 boys in the Texas farmlands, I am beyond impressed seeing how this song impacts you, just like it does the rest of us. My own mother (Rest her soul) gave me this same message in 1971 when we were very poor. I listened, and I passed it on to my boys. I find peace in knowing my sons will do the same. It's a message, it's a ballad, It's a moral culture. Those that tear up actually get it.
Love that you love it with an open mind! We are all one brotherhood!
Absolutely love this one!
Alabama boys rock on love you Drenda Rogets from Alabama
Shinedown’s cover of this song is probably one of my favorite covers ever. The original is still my favorite but they def did a fantastic job.
Lynyrd Skynyrd got bars!
Another fantastic reaction to a great song. Thank you both. You are appreciated. 👌🙂⭐❤
Humble simple strong man
Mel and Shawn you are great parents have those conversations tell them what life is about just like I did with my daughter and son
Loved your heartfelt reaction to this song. I'm 63 and grew up listening to them. You should check out another of their songs, "The Ballad of Curtis Loew", I think you will like that too.
A Simple song too, yet deep. This inspired me to step out into new adventures I want to explore, and I’m not a man.
cheers to you , good luck and wish you nothing but greatness !
Much Love From A Simple Man❤🙏
My favorite song of from the band
Y’all nailed it ! Been listening to this song for 47 years and mamas words back then still ring true today if not even more !
Please play the Long version of "Freebird" the version before 1977. The guitars at the end, of Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Steve Gains will blow your mind!! It was the last song they always played at the end of a concert.
The Best Song a Mama could ever get her Son to listen to IMO
Theres a reason there one of the top American bands ever
This song was under rated. Such a strong message.
One of my favorite songs.
I was waiting for yellow to do this song. The live version is amazing. One of my all time favorites. Great job guys. Feel these southern boys.
I think every one of us mothers who have a son especially grown ones have dedicated this song to them.
No other races of people are LinkedIn together by music then southern whites and black americans.the voice and soul does magic to both our souls like no other races
Simple message advice for her son , moma told me. Straight to your heart ❤. Great life lesson! I wish more people got this message when they were young.
I never thought it would happen to me, a head on collision, and ended up picking up cans and bottles with a college degree. It took me forty years to come back to my senses and now I am left handed.
True story. So God bless your son 💓
I have always thought of one of my sons, I’ve instilled this with all my children, only one will not understand.
If you can’t appreciate simple things you’ll never be able to appreciate the blessings
What a beautiful song
What a beautiful reaction you gave us for this beautiful tune. Thank you both, so much.
TRUE DAT...MAMA KNOWS.
You guys are a really cute couple. 👍🏻❤️
Southern Rock at its best..
Original group before the plane crash in October 1977 just a few months after we lost Elvis Presley.
I want this instrumental played at my funeral.
Ronnie Van Zandt wrote all the music he wrote about life his experiences of life what he was tall this man never drink never smoked he was a simple man
Southern rock at it's finest!
This one hits the gut hard specially if you’ve lost your moms like myself
High school days for me!
They we're of the greatest of all times, I've seen them twice in Concert, loved your reaction, ya'll are looking so good, hope ya'll have a blessed evening 🙏
May be my favorite song. Reminds me of my mother. She never cussed. Once when I was 8 she said she was so mad she could spit nails. I was hiding behind the chair. Looking around it. I thought she might, and I wanted to see it. Simple Man. She told me never ask for anything, work for what you want. Find love. And pray to the lord. For the lord always will love you. Always. I miss her and dad so much.
Yeah I love Lynyrd Skynyrd this is a classic song I was a little kid when I heard this song and I'm 51 now seems like it was yesterday the first time I heard this song
I saw this an said Yes 😁!!!
So simple ✌❤🤘
I am my mother’s oldest child and only son. My mom might not have said all these words, exactly (Although many of them she did), but she did express these exact thoughts over and over. Every guy I know around my age, with a strong Christian mother like I have, feels the way I do about this song. My mom mostly raised the three of us kids by herself, in addition to raising a fourth adult (My dad was a paranoid schizophrenic and it was, many times, like mom had a fourth kid to raise). She had that situation, plus we were on a very small budget for five people. We were getting $1000 per month for five of us (Social Security Disability) during my senior year in high school. Yet we ate well, we had what we needed and, as I told you, mom always gave us the best advice. My mother is the most beautiful soul I have met on this earth, and I don’t expect to meet a more beautiful one while I am alive. She isn’t perfect, but she is the most truly good person I have ever known. I Love You, Patricia Lee Henry.
Do y'all try to turn your friends on to new music and if so what are there reactions? Augusta Ga
Now y’all have to check out Shinedown’s version of Simple Man…it’s the best cover I’ve ever heard
Also check out Ballad of Curtis Lowe by Lynyrd Skynyrd
No please dont, Shinedowns version just trys too hard, basically screaming at the chorus, just go with the original that has the soul in it and not the try hard ripoff artist's.
@@dustinnewby9995 I said it’s the best COVER of a song imo, definitely did NOT say it was the best version of the song 🤷🏻♀️
@@dustinnewby9995 He's not "screaming" .. Brent Smith has a powerful voice, one of the most powerful voices in rock today .. it's a true tribute, not a ripoff. Shinedown's guitarist Jasin Todd is married to Melody, Ronnie Van Zant's daughter.
You would love Bob Sugar anything he did! It was all great!
Lynyrd Skynyrd. No A's .
Thank you for sharing this with me
I hope I have given my grown son the same good advice. Every mom wants her son to grow into a "Simple Man". Brings tears to my eyes.
Dang girl you sing!!!!
For starters I wanted to say Mel you look exceptionally beautiful tonight! What an amazing band! What an amazing song! It touches you deep in your soul🤍! She loved her son deeply & for sure changed his life with her words! What a blessing to have that kind of love from a mother! I wish all children were able to feel that at least once in they’re life!! There are so many who haven’t & many who never will! My kids are grown. I have 3 grandchildren now & for me I’m blessed to see my daughter share this kind of love & care to them…There’s nothing like a Mother’s 💕 love!! If u haven’t reacted yet to Free-bird by Skynyrd you should! Another very moving song & 1 of my favorites is “Curtis Lowe” you won’t regret it! God bless & have a beautiful week!✌🏻out 🦋
Gets right in your heart doesn't it?
The soul of Country!
Shinedown did a nice acoustic cover of this, but the emotion of these lyrics deserves the heaviness of this version.. This song is already important to me, but soon, unfortunately, it may become even more important. My mom is 82 and is suffering from dementia. I don’t know how much longer I will see her in this life. So this song will be one of my biggest reminders of her when she is gone. Let me start another comment to explain why.
Exactly you need to start them young. They are little birds looking for guidance.
Respects❤️ lost my mom when i was 10 and she means so much
Love this song 🎵
I want to say your wife is so beautiful 😍
Love watching you guys, ❤️ and I enjoy
The music 🎶
You guys need to see him perform live 76 or 77 recording there's a bunch on UA-cam they do this there's a t for Texas and Course Oakland Coliseum when they're doing free bird it's just phenomenal
Absolutely beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Ya'll are awesome. Love y'all
