  • In our second episode in our series about migration, we focus on asylum seeking once in the EU. In 2022 the EU received almost 1 million asylum applications, which approaches the numbers seen during the 2015-2016 peak. And this comes in addition to the 4.8 million Ukrainians who received temporary protection in EU countries and who therefore did not need to apply for asylum.
In this video we look into where people looking for protection apply for asylum, how the EU countries share the current issue of overburdened frontline countries, how the Dublin system is working, and how Ukrainian refugees differ from other asylum seekers.

Do not confuse people with external/internal EU borders. EU has no borders as such, since it is not a territorial entity.
