This circuit is a Voltage Detector and works thanks to three BC547 transistors. The operation of the circuit is very simple: The small antenna is able to pick up the electromagnetic wave (EMF) emitted by the electric voltage.. this signal is amplified by the first two transistors, the third transistor acts as a switch and when signal reach its base it becomes closed switch and turn on the LED.

- 3x BC547 NPN Transistors
- 1x 220Ω Resistor
- 1x 1KΩ Resistor
- 1x 100KΩ Resistor
- 1x 560KΩ Resistor

can it work to detech underground cable that around 3 feet depth?
In my opinion, no.. it could only work if that cable emitted enough EMF

Hi, You can not mount the switch by closing the contact, but put the capacitor.
Could you connect it to a VU meter like a K2 meter has?

Yes, however an active buzzer must be connected in parallel to the LED
Riesce a controllare attraverso l'intonaco? Circa 1,5-2cm?
Da alcune prove che ho fatto ad 1 cm si, peró varia molto in base al tipo di filo elettrico, intonaco ecc.. più il cavo è schermato e più difficile sarà la lettura. È meglio considerare questo circuito più come un classico cerca fase (ma molto più sensibile e senza contatto fisico con i 220/230V).

Hi, you could draw it in the PCB using the tracks, but it would not be as sensitive as an external one
