In my book , my main character is dead and came back to life, and I made it so that she lost some emotions. So she would totally go into that creepy dark ally because she's already dead and fearless
Wonderful videos, thank you! Also I've been watching thinking that your mannerisms remind me of Alyson Hannigan - then I realised you look like what I imagine Tara & Willow's daughter from Buffy would look like, had such a thing been possible ^_^
Story seems to be the simplest thing to get right, but it's very elusive and subjective. Even if you master all the other elements of writing, it still comes down to will the individual reader find the story you have chosen to tell compelling. This actually scares me more than anything else.
Watching your old writing videos makes me want to finally finish a novel. Only problem is I don't have a computer. I've tried using my phone, but it's hard to see the bigger picture with it. I'm saving up for a laptop, only a couple more years! ;)
All good tips regarding story development, which I do follow through my fan fiction writing. I tend to think of conflict in story as everything being status quo at the beginning, and then stuff happens to blow that status quo to smithereens. For example, in Season 1 of Game of Thrones. The Baratheons and the Starks seem like your ideal TV families when King Robert plans to marry his supposed son and heir to his buddy Ned's older daughter. Simple enough. Sansa, in true teenage girl fashion, is head over heels in love with handsome Joffrey at first until she realizes he's a total nutcase. Ned soon learns that Joffrey and his siblings are truly the product of Queen Cersei's incestuous relationship with her twin brother. To throw things even more in to chaos, Robert is mortally wounded while out hunting, Cersei tears up the decree naming Stannis Baratheon the new king and has Ned held on trumped up charges of treason. By the end of Season 1, the shit has completely hit the fan, and the War of the Five Kings is on!!!
2:19 Every bad horror movie I've ever watched!!! Well, really every bad movie in general, but bad horror movies are definitely at the top of the list for offending this rule!
:D .. hi! :) I was debating the other day about which book to start reading next.. and I realized it would be a good video idea, your opinion about reading one book or several books at a time :) just wanted to let you know in case you found it interesting... or you can quickly mention it in a vlog or something :)
I'm studying a bit (a lot) some of your videos so i can write down a decent story and i have a big question for you: Where can i read some of your work? It really would be very exiting and helpful. I hope you can answer me. And again, thanks for all of this. :)
I have looked for heaps of info on here. I will watch all yours now. Too many teachers makes it confusing. I am going your way! Be my superior while i finish my first book? Lol! Thanks!
Kaytastic you are an engaging speaker. Great voice and message. Please. Please drop 80% of the jump cuts. They are very distracting. They forced me to pause the video about every two minutes. Finally I just listened to it and stopped watching the video. Also because you don't need as many jump cuts you don't have to shout the whole video. Use the range of your voice. Try it for a video or two and ask your viewers if they like it. C ya.
I love all these videos they are so helpful but i dislike twilight a lot its sexiest and Edward and Jacob are very ruff and controlling with Bella, but i love the hungry games is amazing
"That's not conflict, that just sucks for Bob". - Fave line ever.
Omg same 😂😂
RIP Bob
Mm! "In life, coincidence is debatable. In stories, coincidence doesn't work." Taking that one with me. Spot on.
I'm going through all of these videos with a blank notebook and a pen. This information is so amazing and helpful, thank you
" for example, say a character needs to be alone in this dark ally so they can get murdered and the plot can move along." XD
I'm gonna write a book now.
Good luck
Finally watching these very helpful vid series and I just wanted to thank-you Kat! I'm glad this is one part at least that I do well.
I'm two chapters into my book

Well, there you have the cause, he/she loves taking risks and are drawn to them. Adrenalin-addict, maybe? :-)
Maybe your character who meets a friend who is a worry wart and makes your character stop and think

Man, so many things to consider...might have to put the writing process to a halt and actually think about the story first haha
Thank you so much for doing these videos! :D
Why would someone want to murder retina kid?? That's so harsh...
i love these vids of you! they're really helping :D
Do you have any methods or techniques for coming up for unique ideas for stories or novels? I would appreciate a video on this topic. :) Thanks x

Four years late but write what you want to read.

Can I introduce conflict halfway through the book?
I have looked for heaps of info on here. I will watch all yours now. Too many teachers makes it confusing. I am going your way! Be my superior while i finish my first book? Lol! Thanks!
Well now at least I dont have to read the hunger games like I wanted to anymore...
I'm really enjoying Bob. lol

I can't think of a conflict for my story.....I have a decent idea but I don't know what to do with it :/
Was that retainer really worth it main character..? was it reaaaallly that worth it? :I
If this was the Old Testament, I would give 4,060 camels, 14,000 sheep, 2,000 slaves and 6 score and 8 square miles of my best land for Katytastic.

She says it shouldn't be that hard for the reader to figure out. You have obviously never seen or read Game of Thrones XD!
