Mm! "In life, coincidence is debatable. In stories, coincidence doesn't work." Taking that one with me. Spot on.

" for example, say a character needs to be alone in this dark ally so they can get murdered and the plot can move along." XD

In my book , my main character is dead and came back to life, and I made it so that she lost some emotions. So she would totally go into that creepy dark ally because she's already dead and fearless

Wonderful videos, thank you! Also I've been watching thinking that your mannerisms remind me of Alyson Hannigan - then I realised you look like what I imagine Tara & Willow's daughter from Buffy would look like, had such a thing been possible ^_^

Story seems to be the simplest thing to get right, but it's very elusive and subjective. Even if you master all the other elements of writing, it still comes down to will the individual reader find the story you have chosen to tell compelling. This actually scares me more than anything else.

Watching your old writing videos makes me want to finally finish a novel. Only problem is I don't have a computer. I've tried using my phone, but it's hard to see the bigger picture with it. I'm saving up for a laptop, only a couple more years! ;)

All good tips regarding story development, which I do follow through my fan fiction writing.
I tend to think of conflict in story as everything being status quo at the beginning, and then stuff happens to blow that status quo to smithereens.
For example, in Season 1 of Game of Thrones. The Baratheons and the Starks seem like your ideal TV families when King Robert plans to marry his supposed son and heir to his buddy Ned's older daughter. Simple enough. Sansa, in true teenage girl fashion, is head over heels in love with handsome Joffrey at first until she realizes he's a total nutcase. Ned soon learns that Joffrey and his siblings are truly the product of Queen Cersei's incestuous relationship with her twin brother. To throw things even more in to chaos, Robert is mortally wounded while out hunting, Cersei tears up the decree naming Stannis Baratheon the new king and has Ned held on trumped up charges of treason. By the end of Season 1, the shit has completely hit the fan, and the War of the Five Kings is on!!!

If this was the Old Testament, I would give 4,060 camels, 14,000 sheep, 2,000 slaves and 6 score and 8 square miles of my best land for Katytastic.

Kaytastic you are an engaging speaker. Great voice and message. Please. Please drop 80% of the jump cuts. They are very distracting. They forced me to pause the video about every two minutes. Finally I just listened to it and stopped watching the video. Also because you don't need as many jump cuts you don't have to shout the whole video. Use the range of your voice. Try it for a video or two and ask your viewers if they like it. C ya.
