@UPDetector There was a crew in the mid-train units also. We went to Leadville to watch them take the helpers off, and both set of helpers returned to Minturn on there own. The rear went back as soon as the push was over, and came off at Tennessee Pass tunnel, and the mids came off, and returned after they help put the train together. Thanks for watching...
It's sad to see this video my friend. I'm a big fan of "Notch 8 big power GE's" and to see this line and Saluda become abandon It's getting harder to see and feel the power of these beast.
Was there a week ago and the rails are still in place, nothing to worry about. I noticed many locals hike the rail line though since it is inactive, especially in Edwards and Avon.
Nice to have SP leading the job for that and UP Distributing the power and of course those were the AC6000CW days now all of them are just C44/60AC's. It seems like UP was acting like NS for the pushing job because he blew the P3 for at the end so I'm sure there was another crew doing the work in there. Awesome catch Jack
Very nice video again! Love the Tennessee Pass line videos! Please keep them coming! I hope that they reopen this line again someday. Maybe the extra coal traffic will require them to do that! Thanks Keith Johns of Indio, Ca.
Well, considering that revenue traffic's been dead for over 15 years and that average maintenance has dramatically decreased over the years as well (especially between Avon and Minturn); the UP has literally forgotten about the line, and only tourists railroads and industrial companies care for it now!
Lasg train was 1999 up ran local up to Malta too pick up ore cars that were still in service for silver mine. As so as the cars were in yard at Pueblo the track was closed West of Royal Gorge and remains on train order status to this day. UP will not abandon the track because Rio Grande St Louis will take it over and start running train from Pueblo to Dotsaro. Thus cutting milage from UP.
Actually look at the stacks on all of them. Single Dash 9 style stack (instead of the smaller side-by-side twin stacks on a true AC6000CW) indicates AC4460CW and all the 70xx series numbers are convertibles that never got upgraded. All the true AC6000CW that UP bought were 75xx series and are either slowly getting down graded to AC4460CWs (69xx series) or UP has started trading them in on new GEVOs and reusing the number.
InterGamer We had a flood this New Year's Day too and I'm sure it left a varve on the surrounding fields. Try thinking how many varves would have been crated during the whole 18 months of the Flood and drain off ? Perhaps if you hadn't bought into the whole Planet of Apes and Jurassic Park fantasies you might be able to understand?
Sooooo I don't want to start an religious flame war and ruin each others day or night, so I will state my argument and then just shut up for now. 1) I am an Atheist We stick to facts proven by science, not an un-proven book made from mis-translated cave paintings. 2) How you claim I bought into Planet of the Apes and Jurassic Park makes no sense. Jurassic Park is a movie where a zoo is opened to house a new species. Planet of the Apes shows the domination of 1 species over another, something that has existed basically since life was micro-bacteria.
What's that sound @ 2:35 - 2:46ish for the layman here. Also, I'm surprised to hear a Nathan P3 @ 3:08 coming from one of tail units, I can't say I've ever heard a new gen locomotive (whatever model these are - sorry, they all look the same to me these days, the vintage geep and SD freak I am. ;) )
In other words, there's an immense amount of pressure being applied to the outside axles as well as track rails on such curves? That's understandable :) How frequently is the track gauge evaluated on curves? I would imagine that theses areas of the track are frequently monitored. Very impressive catch there, thanks!
It is been downgraded to a branchline. Royal Gorge runs passenger trains, a shortline operates portions of it, and UP stores suplus cars and runs an as needed local on one end of it.
for a line that`s been out of use for almost 20 yrs it doesn`t look that bad. I hope we can see trains running through again
Its the 3.5% grade that required the locomotives, it was a pretty standard sight on the grade between Minturn and the summit tunnel.
Truely a magnificent effort to do this, with the mass train weights involved.
What a sight !
Nice.

Great video, Jack! Shame SP is gone and so is Tennessee Pass.
Repair from previous post:
I can't say I've ever heard a new gen locomotive blastin' a P3 before, reminds me of the good ol' days.
That sound you was hearing was the flanges squeeling on the stick rail. The two units are GE AC6000CW's on the rear

Lots of power there nice vid

Sometimes a bloody nose is a good thing. I really liked the sp paint scheme.
Excellent video
Thanks a lot for the upload!!!!!!
The first convertable is a full fledged AC6000CW.
I miss driving these in 1996
I bet Sasha! They were great locomotives at the time, and put the nail in EMD'S coffin. Thanks for watching, and have a good night.
A hell of a lashup!!!!Talk about a long haul!!!

Great Video. Loved It.
Yo that was great rail footage.
@sd70m2man Well! That will bump up the total HP to over 41000 then! Thanks for the info, and watching.
Great catch! Cool helper crew also. SP was the best.
Hear those engines on those units roar!
R.I.P Tennessee Pass!
An amazing video. I hate to think what the fuel bill would be for this run today!

There will be no more mergers of the four Class 1 railroads. The STB has made that quite clear.
For a second I thought the AC6000CW's were UP ES44's

You can hear those pre-derated 6250 hp engines in those C60AC's roaring up that hill. No other loco sounds like those behemoths.
How and why did they derate them?
Holy mother of Jesus!! That is a LOT of power!!!!!!
never knew engineers rode in the back but I guess it would be tough to back up safely in a jiffy if not
Robert Kerr usually they don't. I think that was a helper set
@Fitch721 SP had P3s on all their locos, even the big GEs. It was their favorite horn.
the trackside cliffs show the sediments laid down during The Flood 4,300 years ago.
what flood?
The Flood - there has only been one flood.
Rose White I have experienced 3 floods in less than 5 years. 2 of which the army was called in.
InterGamer We had a flood this New Year's Day too and I'm sure it left a varve on the surrounding fields.

Dude, there were like 5 AC6000's strapped on. WTF
Great video!

Super video i like it
Thanks Marco, Glad you enjoyed it.
No the tracks are still in place, just no traffic.
Nice Vid .. Nice Power
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Its a shame that nothing runs on this scenic line anymore. Thanks for watching...
agreed .. i keep hearing rumblings about reopenings though .. lets hope

My video looks like this. I just have an old camera :(
Looks Like Oregon.Cool Vidio.
cool
Did they tare the tracks out?
Just like BHP!
@DenverGuy11111 Still cheaper than any other mode of transport.
