My favourite stat for my reading in 2023 is I read the same number of books on my TBR that I bought, but only read 55ish% of the books I bought last year.
Not seeing Addie LaRue on the DNF section 😭 I’ve never watched a stats video and I can confirm I did go feral for this
🙈 I love stats!! I also found myself tracking books on Goodreads, StoryGraph, and a spreadsheet last year, LOL. I didn't find the difference between the websites to be significantly interesting (except I like seeing the pages read/minutes listened over time on SG). And over time, I did find my spreadsheet wasn't matching what I cared about. I think it was from Book Riot, but some of the things it tracked were too specific and others were too broad. I have a much better one for this year that I can't wait to see, but for some of my fun 2023 stats:
64% of my reads were digital, 20% physical, and 17% audio (no idea where that extra 1% is from though...)
49% were 4+ star ratings for me, but I DNF'd 10% of the books I picked up
8% were YA/MG
9% were not in novel/book format
53-60% were romance and 11-15% were SFF (depending on where I pull the stats from), but 23% was definitely nonfiction
45% were published in 2023
38% were from the library
14% were from non-American authors
🐵🎉🐒 I’m so proud of you for jumping in and swimming with the numbers! That’s fantastic ❤ I read a lot more books than I thought I could/would: 269. Of those, 262 were ebooks, 3 were audio books, and sadly 4 were physical books. I tracked them in my Kindle and in my bujo. Didn’t complete one single challenge that caught my eye, and out of all those books, only 22 really became brainworms. I lost track of the DNFs. This year’s goal is really to read more thought provoking books, and I’ve already made good on that goal in January. Again, so proud of you 👏🏼 and I wish everyone a fantastic reading year! 📚📖📚
You know it's going to a fun video when the sun chimes in. 🙊😂 I'm enjoying Storygraph's stats, too. Last year the line showing the mood of what I was reading started high and just went steadily downwards. Hang on while I get some chocolate.
Obsessed with these statistics vids 🙈 For your unhauls you could maybe just make a list of what you are unhauling and put a picture in the video. That way you can still do the big unhaul videos but prioritise your mental health by getting rid of the unhauled books asap? Otherwise I think prioritising your mental health should always come first - don’t feel any pressure to make videos for us if it puts your mental health at risk! We love you too much for that ❤ also a tiny error I noticed was you have dystopian listed twice in your Genres Read tracker - it didn’t make an impact on the stats though so nothing to worry about 😅
🙈I read 72 last year and will be lucky to manage half of that this year.
🙊 my favourite StoryGraph stats for 2023 was that my mood line stayed pretty steady until October-November when it took a dive for spooky vibes lol
🙊Last year I read 147 books and 89 of those were part of a series. I finished 2023 with 39 series in which I could potentially do some progress 😕 This was a great video. Thanks!
Oooh I love a good statistics deep dive! I think my most interesting stat for 2023 was that I read 55% on audiobook 😊
Mine was bang on 50%! I'm hoping to cut that right down this year so that my physical reads can make up a bigger percentage 😁
@@bethmw28 I don't mind that my audiobook reading is so high, mostly because I'm getting them from the library and they're usually books I own anyway, so I'm still reading my owned books! I hope you manage to cut yours down though, since that's what you'd like to do! 💕
You did a great job with the stats!👏 I have a suggestion for your salty unhauls. What if instead of piling books and filming at a one time, you film a little clip when you decide to DNF, chuck the book out of your house, repeat and then when you have enough clips for a lengthy salty unhaul you edit them together?🙈😁 Which would result in your clean house and more salty content for us🙌😁
🙊 this was great, speaking as a Stats Nerd. Also hardback books are the best was to read, it feels great in my gand have no spine break Concerns, I love turning the pages. It is just joyous!
Congrats on the numbers 💜📚
🙊 I managed to DNF two books and that's actually amazing for me lol
Good for you Lianne, you did it! ^^ To me was also the best reading year ever (at least since i track it) but in my case i read 27 books. I know i could bump the numbers if i listen to audiobooks, but i can't, get too distracted and miss part of what is being said (don't know if it is a manifestation of my ADHD). I hope this year, with luck i can reach 30 books (but i put my goodreads goal in 15 because i don't want to be anxious about this).
Wow! What an amazing wrap up!! I need step up my tracking game! I don't even use Goodreads 😅 Maybe 2024 will be my year of tracking my data! But lets be real, 90% of books I read are just cozy mysteries haha
Yayyyy love a stats video 🥰 I’m the same with remembering to fill out my spreadsheet. I always have to retrospectively add them in and undoubtedly I miss some 🤷🏿♀️ I’ve learnt to be okay with it because that’s just how I am
🙊loved the video. I’m a smidge inspired to work out my own stats 😉
🙉just got onto storygraph in 2024 so hopfully I will be able to tell more about my reading next year!
I do love a stats video and you did a great job! 🐒 i'm not good with numbers either, so I am always appreciative when people break out the spreadsheets and the calculators
Stats! Stats! Stats! 🐒 I think it's great that you read 55 series! Clearly you love worlds/characters you could come back to. Why should you feel bad about spending so much of you reading time in series? Talking about "tracked" books instead of "read" books is such a wise idea. My most surprising statistic is, that my average is so high (above 4! Out of 5!), but I'm sure that's because I forgot to log some as well...
I'm totally with you on the preference of hardbacks. Floppy paperbacks are fun to read too but sadly they are very rare and usually I'm just so stressed out by not wanting to break the spine of my paperbacks that I highly prefer hardbacks... or ebooks even. :)🐒
Do you stretch the binding of your books before you read them? I have been doing that for ages and it really helps prevent broken spines
🙊 The video is amazing, loved to know the stats ❤️
🙊 2024 is my first year tracking my reading so I’m really curious to see how it turns out!
🐒
🙈 you did it!!!!!
honestly I'm impressed you can keep up a whole ass spreadsheet, I tried at the beginning of last year and I feel like they take foreeevvver and my lil brain gremlins get bored and avoid it.
Thinking about getting storygraph plus just for the extra stats and stuff they give you. Updating storygraph takes me 10 seconds so I'm more likely to get it done and this way I would get more fun graphs.
🙊🙉🙈 We'll do all 3...
My spreadsheet, goodreads and storygraph never match the number of books read. I have no clue how I mess that up every year, but tell myself the spreadsheet is most right. And also that it really doesn't matter so much.
Maybe with the unhauls you could just record clips whenever you DNF/finish a book you don't like. Then you can turn them into a compilation rather than keeping them around to do 1 long sit down recording.
I love stats. Thank you & well done!
🙊 As someone who also suffers with Discalculia and didn't even have a name for it until I was an adult and just thought I was stupid throughout all my school years I get it with math and numbers and is honestly why I rely so heavily on storygraph because spreadsheets literally terrify me.
I love a hardback too!! I don't know why they are so unpopular....however I am even stranger in that I only read physical books too, listening to a book sends me to sleep!!! lol
Love a good stats vid 😍😍
🦧 I am a stats nerd so I appreciated this video. My most surprising wrapup fact was that nonfiction made up 50% of my top ten but only 18% of my reads for the year.
I clearly need to figure out what I'm doing with nonfiction and apply it to other genres. I wish I had that sort of luck with my horror and SFF selection.
dude I stopped thinking about numbers after i turned 14 and they put letters in algebra. 🙈
Great job with those numbers!! 🙈
🙈 good job on the stats! 👍
I am also a devotee of hardbacks; given the option in physical format I will take hardback hands down. No one around me gets it, but as a librarian and archivist I know that hardcovers stand up better over time. 🙉
🙊💛 I always enjoy your videos.
I'm not sure why people are being salty. These videos are for fun and to see what you're reading, but you're really what people tune in for. Ignore the rude ones.
I love your shirt! 😍
Yessss! Here we go 😂👌🙉
P.s. that green top looks great on you!! The colour really suits you 💚
I love the stats ♥️♥️♥️
Oooh. 😍 I love stats, but I also have dyscalculia and audhd, so the tracking stability is mediocre at best... 😅
Btw, if keeping the big stacks of bad books for videos makes you feel sad, then I think we all just want you to take care of your brain. We will be fine with less salty unhauls. 🥰
Chuck'em! 🙈
❤📚📚❤️ Loved this video!! 🙊
Love a good stat. 🙈
Great video. 🙉 . Regarding unhaul videos, can you insert just a picture of the book cover, rather than keeping actual book? Am thinking of a cover, you explain, then it gets a big red cross through it once you have finished talking about it.
With a family fortunes wrong answer noise. 😂
Ooh we're 14 book August twins 😁
I think I DNFd about 20 books last year and looking back through the list I have no regrets 😂 lots of them were really popular reads that I thought I should love and they just did nothing for me 🙃 luckily only 2 of them cost me money and only one was bought new so I'm very thankful for my library app 👌
🙊 Even if you might not be, I'm impressed with your statistics 😉
🐵 I read 44 books in 2023:)
hardback fans for the win! ♥️🐒

What is this spreadsheet app or software? @literarydiversions
I have dyscalculia too 🥹 I totally feel you… I’ve always wanted to do the statistics videos but it is so hard for me 🤕🫠
